Hats off to Diamond Shield

I had my protective film on the front of the motorhome destroyed by love bugs on our recent trip to Florida. The film turned out not to be Diamond Shield. After talking to Diamond Shield, they offered to replace what I had with their product for a decent price. Their technician spent Saturday and Sunday at my shop and replaced the old film with the new Diamond Shield. He was amazing. The coach looks better now than it did when I bought it brand new! The stuff has a lifetime warranty also. He custom cut each piece also. So hats off to Diamond Shield and to Alex, the technician who does amazing work!!!!!

Motorhome side mirror replacement/repair

Is it possible to rechrome the side view mirrors on a mh? Mine has some small pits in them and I'd like to put a new finish on them. These are not metal, they are some sort of plastic. They sell for $670 a piece so replacement is out of the question.

RE: MH trip to Keys & New Orlean lessons

The damage I received due to the love bugs was on the plastic protection filem on the front of the mh. This was installed by Thor when it was new. It was in good shape prior to the trip. I did get the bugs off the same day. After talking with Diamond Shield, the film was put on in 2011/12. It has improved a lot since then, in fact, now the film is self healing. The acid from the bugs just pitted the film real bad. I am working with Diamond Shield and my insurance company to get it replaced.

RE: Florida Keys RV Parks in Winter

Stay at either Sunshine RV or Bluewater RV. I don't recommend Venture Out at Cudjoe Key unless you have no pets. Beware of love bugs. They just did $2,000 damage to the front of my mh protective shield...

RE: MH trip to Keys & New Orlean lessons

If we ever go back to Key West, we will stay at Bluewater Key. We did ride through there and it is nice. In NOLA, we ate at COOPS in the French Quarter. It was suppose to be good Cajun restaurant. The food tasted pretty good. But on the way to the restroom, I ended up in their kitchen. I suddenly lost my appetite and will never return. They can't have health inspections there...

RE: MH trip to Keys & New Orlean lessons

We stayed at Jude Travel Park. Small but adequate. Super nice folks running the place. They even provide a shuttle to town. It is not in a good part of town, if there is one, so they advise everyone to lock all doors at night. They are fenced and gated. They do have a pool and hot tub.

We also hit Clearwater Beach as we stopped over in Tampa. It was ok but we were the only English speaking people around which we are just not use to. Was also very crowded.

As far as the smell at the Key West beaches, yes we knew about the Sargasso sea but the beaches were covered with seaweed. You would need a rake just to get to the water.

RE: MH trip to Keys & New Orlean lessons

3) We stayed at Venture Out. Prior to booking, I called them and they said sure we are dog friendly. Well, there is absolutely no where to walk your dog in the complex. Gravel everywhere. The "dog walk" is outside the front gate and is all gravel. No way we could even walk to the dog walk due to the size of the place. This is no place for dogs. This is not really an RV park. 10) The WW2 museum would probably be great but the town itself smells like sewer. The restaurants are nasty unless you spend big bucks and go to somewhere formal. The streets are crowded. People were rude. We went to several sections of town and none were much better. I am sure there are nice places there but I ain't going back to find them.

MH trip to Keys & New Orlean lessons

Here are just a couple of comments and observations from our recent trip. 1) Love bugs can cause real damage to a mh front. $2,000 2) Gas stations in the Keys are not mh friendly. 3) Venture Out in Cudjoe Key is not dog friendly even though they tell you they are. 4) The beaches in the Keys stink. All of them! Due to seaweed. Some were even trashed with litter. You pay to enter all of them also. 5) Key West is a tourist trap. You pay dearly for a parking spot for your vehicle. 6) Sloppy Joes has the best margaritas. 7) Mel Fisher museum and Hemmingway house were great. 8) Car manufacturers can save money by eliminating blinkers since very few people use them. 9) States should recycle speed limit signs since very few pay any attention to them. 10) New Orleans stinks literally! Graphiti everywhere. Everyone after your dollar. Will never go back there! 11) Pat Obriens in the Quarter has great Hurricanes. Overall a good 3 week trip but now can say been there done that.

Diamond Shield damage by Love Bugs

Just got back from our trip from South Carolina to Key West. We ran through several swarms of love bugs on the interstate. So bad that we had to stop and clean twice. Once I got in Key West, I washed the front of the coach and noticed that there is now hundreds of pits in the diamond shield. After reading on the internet, it appears that love bug guts are acidic. Although I removed their remains as quick as possible, they pitted my diamond shield bad enough that is either has to be removed or replaced. I am talking with Diamond Shield and my insurance company now. I am considering not putting the shield back on. The area above the windshield was not coated and the bug guts washed and waxed off ok. Any suggestions??

RE: FMCA Michelin tires program.

Need to consider the tire dates, disposal fee, mounting and balancing fees, etc. I looked at the FMCA program but decided to buy locally. I think the prices were fairly close.

Federal Excise tax on tires

Just had 8 new tires put on my mh for $5,500. They charged me $201 in FET and then charged me $400 tax on my total which included the FET. So I am paying a tax on a tax. I know there are tax friends out there. Is that right???
