RE: Maine to Hershey

Also you can take US209 down the Delaware Water gap (I think it's exit 2 in PA off I-84) to I-80 to I-81 to I-78. That whole NY metro area is too busy for me. Last time on I-287 was a lumpy ride.

RE: Campsite Sanitation - Beware

And yet no wide-spread breakout of cholera in the camping community. As dodge guy said, your immune system has developed to take care of this. Over-sanitizing weakens the immune system. If it didn't work, everyone using a public bathroom anywhere would die.

RE: Boycott “No Campfires”

Here's what I'll admit. There's a long history in this country that went from things people whining about to things banned. At some point, someone needs to say "Enough!". CAMP fires people; CAMP fires. Rich people ruin everything.

RE: Boycott “No Campfires”

You might want to check your meds, I don't think they're working for you. No one, I repeat, NO ONE, had advocated banning fires because they're smoky and stinky. Oh Really? Au contraire. Please supply a list of these smoke free campgrounds. They're my next stops. I'm another one that wants that list so I can save them as my favorite RV'ing spots. Campfires only do one thing well: stink and smoke, okay two things. More power to 'em. not a bad Idea no m camp fires, they just stink up the camp any way. and if it would save ONE FORREST FIRE it would be worth it. p.s. your fire stinks up my rv. no thanks. While I don't hate campfires I do agree with inept campers that not only burn wood but garbage and plastic. I to would not want a campfire in close quarter's next to my camper. Given the choice between smoky, stinky fires or bugs, I'll take the bugs every time. And the only way it keeps the bugs away is if you sit in the smoke. Boy is that pleasant. I also prefer a campground that does not allow campfires at the site. I am fine with a place away from the sites, but I dislike the smell, smoke, and embers that fly up. I've asked to be moved from a site where my neighbors already had a smoky fire going, no whining involved - it was easier for us to move than for the neighbors to change which way the wind was blowing.

RE: Boycott “No Campfires”

What puzzles me is that people will take part in an activity that clearly includes an aspect that they don't like, and knowing full well that that particular aspect is an integral part of the activity, set out to change things to remove that part which they don't like, ruining it for everyone. ...Perhaps you should review the definition of "integral", and maybe select the word "optional" instead. And perhaps at the same time review the OP's first post. Again, this thread is not about campers/RV'ers banning fires, it's about the owners of RV parks and campgrounds banning fires. And since the owners may be banning fires because of complaints about said fires, maybe it isn't quite the "integral" part of the activity that you think it is. As for me, and many others from what I've seen and heard, not having a fire doesn't "ruin" anything. I wasn't referring to the OP's post, I was referring to all the "I don't like campfires" posters. And you have made my point. Campfires being "optional" is not how it started out. And it's not "optional" now. It's "I don't like this so I'm gonna whine about it until it gets banned". It's I don't like it so you can't do it. It's all wrong. Complaining to a CG owner until he can't stand the sound of you voice and bans fires is ruining it for everyone. You all knew that campfires were a part of camping when you started. Or didn't HGTV mention that in the show you watched?

RE: why am I still getting this

More like weeks. This was happening on the RV.NET portal last month and has been cleared up there, so they know what the problem is. Log in on rv.net until they figure it out. You can also post this in the Forum Help and Support section along with the dozens of others that have spoken up.

"Gee I love surfing, but the sharks!!! We should kill all the seals so the sharks will go away." For Barney... "I love ice cream, but the sugar!!! Let's get the gummint to set limits on the amount of sugar they are forcing me to eat." Make a trip to Prince Edward Island to find out how much french fries made with heart healthy oils suck. We're not happy until you're not happy. End of rant

RE: Help selecting East Coast location with lots of variables...

East coast covers a lot of ground. Maybe you could narrow the area you're looking at a little. Do you need beach? Most KOAs have cabins. We stayed at the Watkins Glen KOA and my brother and sister spent a couple of nights at the CG. Our site was close to the cabins so it worked out well.

RE: Planning a trip to the southwest US and renting an RV

There was a thread last year about a great rental outfit in Utah. Anyone remember the name? Search produced nothing.

RE: Household refrigerator to replace Norcold N641?

Both Dometic and Furrion make an AC/DC compressor fridge in 6 and 8 cuft. The Dometic one draws about 8 amps DC.

RE: lobsters in Maine

Anywhere. There are "famous" places to get various lobster dishes, like the Maine Diner in Wells for lobster pie and Red's in Wiscasset for a lobster roll (lines around the block), but getting lobs in Maine is like getting crab in Maryland. When in Freeport, visit LL Bean an take a pic with the big boot. Don't miss Acadia.

RE: Which route

I'v done US 50 from St. Louis and Dodge City and it's a fine road. "Scenic" and crossing Kansas really don't go together, but interstates are even less so. Stop in Liberal KS if you are a Wizard of Oz fan. Dodge City was a hoot.

RE: New York City

Also check out Croton Point Walking distance to the commuter rail into NYC. It would be possible to make day trips into the city, saving the hotel costs ( and you thought KOAs were expensive!!!).

RE: Magnum MS2000 dying. Questions about replacing it.

How old is the inverter? If you have the remote display, it may have a 5 year warranty. Call Magnum. 425-353-8833

RE: Northern Neck of Va to Sturbridge, Mass

I-95 to the GSP to I287 over the Tappan Zee. 1. Take I-684 to I-84 to the Mass Pike/US20 or 2. If you're in a car stay on I-287 to the Merritt Pkwy to I-91 Avoid the section of I-95 from the Cross Bronx to New Haven if at all possible.
