RE: Slide out power stuck "on"

There has to be more than one RV tech in Yuma, Get it checked now! Before something melts or, worse, catches on fire.

RE: Moving to a 5th Wheel

I have to agree with Lantley! I happen to own a Ram 2500 Diesel CC 4x4 short bed; AND a Chevy 3500 CC 4x4 long bed. (My son drives the little one in his business) The difference in price once you start looking at crew cab diesels is very small compared to the difference in capability for the 3500. Talking to others, this seems constant no matter which brand you look at. Also ride comfort is significantly better in the long bed, because of the extended wheelbase. Parking a LB is another topic. RE: 2021 Forest River Heritage Glen 338BAR

"Demand" is a very harsh word! Besides, one of the grey tanks (usually the kitchen) has an undercounter air relief valve and doesn't need a rooftop vent. Basic plumbing theory.

RE: Rent a Truck to tow a 5th Wheel or Gooseneck

I have never seen a pickup from a commercial rental company that was equipped for fifth wheel of gooseneck. Bumper pull, sure, but not 5ers. You might check with dealers or mobile RV repair guys and see if they know somebody who could provide private-party help.

RE: gas shortages along Interstates

At least two of em have managed to set their vehicles on fire. (One while fleeing LEOs on a stolen tag).

RE: Replacement axles

Dexter axles have a serial number stamped (or on a tag) in the center-rear of the axle. The number is the same for all (2 or 3) axles in a set. Dexter customer service can take that number and give you the exact specifications of the original axle/spring set and/or determine what upgrades will fit your installation. Their customer service is, by the way, excellent. A

RE: Best Cell Phone App

I am sure I'll catch a bunch of flak over this, but based on 15 years of pulling a fiver and having used everything from a Garmin hand-held to a Rand-McNaly RVND (backed up with cell phones and/or laptops): 99.75 percent of the time a stand-alone navigation specific device with lifetime updates is more accurate and faster than any app or software. If it can see the sky it works! A PS - Always carry a fairly recent print copy of the Trucker's Road Atlas.

RE: Best time to buy new?

I agree with "right after school starts" but remember that NEW loses half its price (not value to you, but resale price) in the first 15 months. Gently used??

RE: no lights

I don't like to sound too negative, but from your posts I get a feeling that you are in way over your head. A friend with automotive electrical experience (or a mobile RV tech) needs to "cold trace" your wiring harness. A wrong connection usually just annoying, but it CAN be dangerous to the batteries and other electronics in both the trailer and the truck. A degree of caution is a good idea. A

RE: Navigation

In 8 years we have never had a failure with Rand-McNally's RVND (Recreational Vehicle Navigation Device) Although it has missed a couple of low clearances. I do also carry the most recent edition of The R-M spiral bound Trucker's Road Atlas.

RE: surge protector and water filters

Water filtering is a personal choice. We do on the theory that it can't hurt. but only once or twice in 12 years have we run into really bad water. Death Valley, anyone? We carry 5 or 6 gallon jugs of good, city, water to use for cooking and drinking if necessary and refill them whenever we are at a big-city source. Anything that meets EPA public water source guidelines is as good as you will get through a filter short of RO. A pressure regulator is required. Watts makes good ones that are adjustable. I feel that an EMS from Progressive is a necessary investment. Mine has kicked out due to low voltage several times (particularly in Canada) and once when the guy next to me backed over my pedestal and ripped the ground side loose.

RE: Looking for New Fifth Wheel with Bigger Windows

Keep in mind that a certain amount of "non-window" wall area is necessary to provide structural rigidity to the box. Engineer talk for "there are limits".

RE: Ghost Towns

For a curated town we agree with Bannock or Bodie. The road back into Bodie can be badly washboarded depending on weather and whether the County has run a grader over it recently. For a truly abandoned town try Anamas Forks, above Silverton, CO. With your "C" you won't be able to go on up Mastadon Gulch to the mine camps, but AF itself is neat. Check out the San Francisco newspapers glued to the inside of the walls in the "bay window" house as insulation. Caution! The floor is rotten near the door. There are two seasons in that part of Cololrado, Winter and August.
