RE: Ford 150 lightning recall

This Ford F-150 Lightning problem is bad news for EVs. https://www.motorbiscuit.com/ford-f-150-lighting-problem-changed-everything-electric-vehicles/ "Ford recently halted F-150 Lightning electric pickup production due to battery fire issues. The Blue Oval isn’t the first automaker to experience battery fire issues, and it won’t be the last. Battery fires were such a huge issue for General Motors that the company had to issue a mass recall on the Chevy Bolt EV. The recall cost the company over one billion dollars. GM is looking to cut ties with LG following its battery fire issue. The Ford F-150 Lightning’s battery problem is a huge issue for the EV space for two reasons. This incident makes drivers question the reliability of the electric vehicle. The second, more troubling reason that F-150 Lightning battery fires are a huge issue is because of the specific battery that’s a fire risk. Battery fires were enough to make GM want to abandon its partnership with LG. It seems LG isn’t the only company that is producing EV batteries that can cause fires. According to CNBC, the F-150 Lightning models that are fire risks are powered by SK On batteries. These batteries power several popular electric vehicles, including the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. Why was the Ford F-150 Lightning recalled? The Ford F-150 Lightning was recalled because of improperly produced battery cells that were made at SK On’s Georgia plant. The Blue Oval recalled 18 electric pickup trucks once it realized that the EVs made with the cells were at risk of causing battery fires. This is the first major Ford F-150 Lightning reliability issue to date, so it’s rough news for fans of the electric pickup. The brand’s first electric vehicle, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, has recently been plagued with several reliability issues. This small F-150 Lightning recall could change the way many consumers perceive the electric pickup truck. The Ford F-150 Lightning is currently the most popular electric pickup, but fear of battery fires or reliability issues could leave room for a competitor to overtake the EV. This incident will send shockwaves through the industry because yet another electric vehicle battery supplier is producing batteries that are potentially unstable. Is the Ford F-150 Lightning a good truck? A red 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning is driving off-road. The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning | Ford RELATED Recall Alert: Ford F-150 Lightning Batteries Are Catching on Fire" This article seems a bit overly dramatic considering the issue was isolated to one group of batteries of which 18 were installed in new trucks and one caught fire. And none of those trucks had yet been delivered to buyers. Sounds like media trying to create a big story out of what is so far apparently an isolated issue. Maybe motorbisquit is anti EV. Or anti Ford. Ford produced over 13,000 F150 EVs in 2022, apparently with no issues. And plans for 150,000 in 2023.

RE: Prevost developing an electric coach.

Do these inductive charge pads exist, or is this just a concept? Here is one in service 5 years and proven to work well. https://waveipt.com/battery-electric-bus-reach-wireless-charging-milestone/

Here is some recent discussion about the problem on the HDRam forum. You can read it without joining. Just scroll down. Takes a while to load for some reason.

RE: How To Set Up An F-250 For Towing?

I drop by a good trailer dealer/shop and let them make recommendations for your specific truck.

RE: Price of camping

Supply and demand. They price it at what the public will pay even though it may drive a few away. Some RVs are selling for twice or more what they were not many years ago.

RE: I Bought Too Much Truck

……. My solution for most parking: I don't park in the area of the parking lot where other vehicles are... I park in the back 40 so other people don't park near me. ……. That’s great when there is a back 40. But quite often not an option. Seems medical offices, some fast food places, some small businesses, etc have small lots with narrow spaces to squeeze in as many vehicles as possible. My cardiologist, eye doctor, retina specialist, and dentist have small lots and no street parking and a pain parking my F350 CC long bed, even when backing in. Then have to fold the mirrors just to pass between my truck and the vehicle next to me.

RE: Ram Cummins/Aisin Failures

Shoot the messenger. Doesn’t matter who posts legitimate info about potential problems with any specific brand, that person and that info will get blasted by that brand’s fanboys. :S

RE: I Bought Too Much Truck

I know your feelings exactly. I first had a 2007 F350 CC long bed and then traded for a 2012 F350 CC long bed towing my 5er with the pair a total of 14 years. Loved the trucks for towing. But not as a daily driver. Small tight parking lots were a pain. Parking garages were often a no go making having to find alternate parking areas at places that had no open surface parking. Sold the 5er and downsized to a 2022 F150 CC long bed. Still long but not as high and still can not whip into just any open parking place. But much easier than before.

RE: Prevost developing an electric coach.

Although someone will turn a few into RVs, those are aimed at the mast transit market.

RE: Class B license to other states

From Moving to Texas Transferring an Out of State Driver License to Texas New Texas residents can legally drive with a valid, unexpired driver license from another U.S. state, U.S. territory, Canadian province, or qualifying country for up to 90 days after moving to Texas. Prior to the end of the 90 day grace period, a new Texas resident must apply for a Texas license in person at any driver license office to continue to drive legally. When applying for the new Texas license the individual must surrender any unexpired driver license in their possession from another U.S. state, U.S. territory or a Canadian province.

RE: Driver’s license for DPs

FL requires nothing! TX requires a Class B certification for all RV's over 26,000#. ……….. Unless you are towing something with a GVWR over 10,000 lbs, then Texas requires a class A non CDL license. That would be the case of most all trucks towing large 5th wheels and motor homes towing larger utility trailers or even a larger pickup. A MH towing something under 10,000 lbs GVWR can get by with a class B license. And that is “weight rating”, not actual weight.

RE: Driver’s license for DPs

School for a commercial drivers license. Not for a personal use RV. What is your state of residence?

RE: Driver’s license for DPs

Not likely you will need a CDL. But most likely you will need a higher level non CDL license than a standard license. Requirements differ by state. Example is Texas that you need a class A or class B non CDL license for any thing with a GVWR of over 26,001 lbs. Google drivers license for your state.

RE: Leaking walls

You need a thorough inspection of the entire roof and all around the edges and all caulking around vents, A/C, and anything else on the roof. Likely you have cracks in the roofing and/or caulking leading to water intrusion. And if you have a wood frame, it is also likely you have wood rot causing the gutter fastening screws to loosen and pull loose.

RE: Question about double towing

Definitely state to state regulations and limitations. And getting info in a consolidated and accurate report is difficult, if not impossible. You can find different charts and tables and they will not necessarily agree with each other. And even individual state web sites can be difficult to find the needed info. And not just double towing yes or no. Total legal lengths vary state to state.

RE: Pets left alone in RV at campground?

I always assumed left unattended meant unattended outside. Maybe I was wrong. It does depend highly on the dog. We have always had older adopted Golden Retrievers, about the most calm dog there is. We would take them for a walk, then back to the RV before leaving to do whatever it was we wanted to do. They would go into a darker corner of the bedroom and still be asleep when we returned. We left the windows closed, AC or heat as needed, and the TV on for background noise. And never gone more than 2-3 hours. But we have been next to other RVs whose dogs barked the entire time they were gone. And the owners knew it since the dogs were barking when they left and still barking when they returned. That causes problems for all dog owners.
