RE: RV Parks Near Johnson City, TX

Only one I know of near Johnson City is Roadrunner RV park just south of town. Looks nice but I have never stayed there.
There are several on 290 west closer to Fredericksburg, Jellystone RV, Bending Oaks Ranch (formerly a KOA), and a new one called Arch Ray RV Resort. Along with some smaller ones. I go thru that area frequently but have never stayed at any of those.
You can use google maps, zoom in, and search for RV parks in that area, see what is there, and read reviews of them.

Don’t know anything about them but as noted above, a possibility.

RE: 1920's 5th wheel

I’ll be the first.
Is that an A250? He needs at least an A350, preferably a DRW. And that gooseneck is going to cause frame damage. :B

RE: Route Planning Question

Fastest can get you in trouble also. I have had two GPS that tried but I already knew better. There are GPS units that are supposed to be optimized for RV and truck routing. I haven’t used one but I am sure someone who has will quickly come along with their experiences.

RE: Is there a back flow valve on the hot water outlet

Should be a check valve on the hot water output of the WH.

RE: Trailer Directional not working

Check your truck fuse box(es) to see if separate fuses for taillights and stoplights.
You can check the trailer brake lights by using a jumper at your 7 pin connector.

RE: Dealers lots are filling up

More 3/4 tons are sold with gas engines than diesel by a longshot regardless.
Could you show us where you got that statistic? That certainly is not the norm in Western States.
I know that statistic from dealing with sales managers over the last 20 years or so when it comes to fleet/commercial sales. Where did you get your statistic that it's not the norm in Western states? Visual observation on the highway?
The fleet sales is what pushes the numbers toward gas rather than diesel. Most 250/2500 work trucks in this area are gas. Privately owned trucks are more likely diesel even if they are used for nothing more than daily drivers. That may change with the costs of diesel on top of the cost of the engine.

RE: Travel Trailer electrical, - Inverter placement/hookup

Just remember that however many amps of 120 vac power you use you need over 10 times that many 12 vdc amps from the battery to run the inverter (due to inverter inefficiency).

RE: Dealers lots are filling up

I haven’t seen that many 1/2 tons showing up on lots here yet. Diesel prices around here are from $1.70 to $1.85 higher than regular gas. That’s $50-$55 more for a 30 gal fill up. That’s going to make those who don’t actually need a diesel think twice about buying one.

RE: Likely to regret

I also agree with most above. That is far more truck than you need for a 30' trailer. The truck will outweigh the trailer by several thousand pounds. We have been in state and COE parks where that would rule out many of the sites. And the longer sites are typically the most in demand and 1st to be claimed.
Generally not a problem in commercial RV parks. If you plan on boondocking in less developed areas, then the size is less of a concern.
I know you said only you and your wife, but with a TH in only 30' length the garage doesn't leave a lot of living space. Could get pretty small on extended stays. Look over all the floorplans carefully before writing the check.

RE: Replacement of Suburban water heater...

Or if you wanted to continue to use the inside 12 vdc switch as is, buy a relay with a 12 vdc coil and contacts rated to handle the 120 vac and rated current of the heating element, mount it at the water heater, and wire it in the same as if it came with one.

RE: Will I regret this truck?

I towed my 35’ 5er with a 2012 F350 6.7 SRW and it was plenty. And the newer ones have even more payload and power. Enjoy. Except for the price of diesel of course.

RE: Replacing Water Heater

According to the Suburban manual the 10 gal is about 3 1/2” wider and taller and about an inch deeper then the 6 gallon.

Your pictures
Here is the Suburban manual. Maybe page 11 figures 10 and 11 will help understand the wiring.

RE: Can 'O Worms: how long can I expect my 5er to last?

Depends a lot on how well each brand was manufactured. And how well cared for. I sold my 2007 Montana last year after owning it since buying it new. It was still as solid as the day I bought it. No exaggeration. I’m sure some brands are even better. And some not so much.
I think the 10 year rule is just an arbitrary number in an attempt to keep older run down units out.

RE: Shopping new tires - is my shop confused or am I?

I would take a hard pass on any Michelin tire.
Look for an E rated tire in another name brand. I had Generals on my Excursion and was very happy with them.
What happened with Michelin? On these forums they are usually considered one of the best brands.Yeah - Michelins are our go to tire now - and we have been buying tires for a looooong time.
Same here. Been using Michelin for over 30 years on my trucks and my wife's various cars and SUVs and never any problem with any of them. And great mileage from them also.

Agree with Barry that the Michelin Defender E are rated for 3,680 lbs. Those are what I ran on both my F350s except mine were 20”.
