RE: High School Graduation Gift Ideas

I gave my granddaughter last year.. A card with $ plus... a garbage liner filled with, bathroom supplies, personal supplies, food (mac&cheese cups, instant oatmeal, hot choc, instant mashed potatoes, coffee, tea bags, paper plates, plastic silverware, foam cups, tuna in the bags, etc, cold/cough supplies with sore throat lollipops, flyswatter, large bag of laundry detergent pods & softener sheets, first aid supplies--you get the idea. She was so excited about the bag, she went thru it @ the reception!

RE: Please school me on something

What do we do? We're staying @ a 55+ RV community that offers activities from 8:30a to about 9:30p, Mon-Fri. Saturday nights are dance night. Every other Sunday evening is a cake social & entertainment for 3$. I've gone to the local library & got a library card--books & movies. We've gone to local attractions, esp museums. Every week we have to fit in groceries & laundrymat. We go to other parks garage sales. Our park has a jam session of country music every week. Last week we visited another parks music. There's an exercise room, pool, ping pong, & 2 tables set up with puzzles in the hall. We have a pool & hot tub. I've joined horsecollar shuffleboard. Hubby has joined euchre club. We ride our bikes daily. In other words--you can be as busy as you want. And decide how much $$ you want to spend.

RE: Maryland to Elkhart

Plenty to do in Elkhart. Visit the Ruthmere House & Beardsley House on Beardsley Street. Travel down main street & visit the Art Museum & take a good look @ the restored Lerner Theatre. Visit the RV Museum--just a wonderful, informative museum filled with vintage campers. They also have a library & printer available. El Camino restaurant on highway 6 has very good Mexican food. Several nice antique malls around the city. And of course you're only about half hour from Notre Dame. Go Irish!

RE: Camp fire smoke

We drove hundreds of miles to a festival. Parked in an open field, few trees here & there. We got there on Thursday about noon. The festival didn't start till Friday. Anyway's, unknown to us... many, many Cub scouts came in on Friday, to the left of us. Late Friday evening a camper came in, parked directly in front of us. Early Sat morning, about 8am, a couple in their 60's & a couple in their 80's came out of the camper, started a fire in the blowing wind, must have been 90+*'s, proceeded to sit in their in the bag chairs, arms folded, & stared @ the fire. No, they didn't get on the tractor tram to go visit the festival. They sat there, arms folded, copious amounts of HOT smoke directly coming into every part of our camper, Cub scouts DOING all they can & will do on the left. Hubby @ noon says--pack'er up, we're going home. We drove hundred of miles home. Yep, fun trip.

RE: Feeding A Large Group

Food for 50 people?! Wow, that's a lot to pack in a camper. And not much fun either. Pot lucks, IMO, is the way to go. But if I had to, sorry folks, it would be cold sandwich fixins, chips, watermelon, 4 9x13 cakes, & a 5 gal cooler of h20 w/lemon slices. If I thought I needed something hot-baked beans in the crockpot or 2.

RE: Breakfast Finger Food

Plain ole' homemade cinnamon toast. Halved on a pretty platter, covered with foil & quilted bag to keep warm. Great to dip in coffee.

RE: Toaster Oven

I bought a 30$ toaster oven from Walmart. I went to the disposable pan section, picked out a 9x9 pan, 9" round pan, 6 muffin pan, 9x5 bread pan, & made sure they fit-they did. Love it. Everything bakes fine & the toaster works great, too. Even tho, I went to Walmart & bought their 6$ toaster. I paid 50c for a toaster oven w/all the attachments @ an auction. I keep it in the house & it works wonderful too. The best 50c I ever spent. LOVE my toaster ovens.

RE: Must-have upgrades...what are yours?

Just this past wkend we had 2 Fantastic vent covers put on plus 2 more-for BR & shower. The dinette awning looks great, too. Future upgrades... new driver & passenger seats & 1 in the back.
Bethany Carolina 09/15/13 09:14pm Class C Motorhomes

We just bought from a salvage store (New in box) an awning for our dinette window, driver side. When the sun is on that side...WOW, it is hot. We have our patio awning on the passenger side. (given to us=free, poles from the junkyard)The dinette awning, 5' I believe, cost us 150$.

RE: Newbie Snowbird question

We were gone from Jan thru March. I used up what we could or gave away. Stuff like catsup, mustard, BBQ sauce, jam, horseradish, mayo etc, was left in. The freezer above frig still had flours, cake mixes etc in it. I left it on, daughter came once a week to check on house. She checked on frig. 1 week the freezer made cubes, 1 week the handle went up=no cubes. Frig was ok when we got home. Will do it again this year. Look @ the expiration date on food. If it's good till you get back, keep it.
