Ram 1500 Long Tow Experience

Hi Folks! After just completing a 3500 mile trip from Florida to Pennsylvania and back,I wanted to give you an update on how the 2019 Ram with the Hemi did.Quad Cab Laramie with off Road pkg. The trailer is a 2018 Sunset Trail 210FK Weighing in loaded at a hair under 7K. Truck bed was loaded also with Genny, cooler chairs, umbrella, tools etc. Wd hitch is a Husky Centerline TS. The trk performed admirably even in the hills of Virginny and Pennsylvania.Plenty of power for this combo and easily cruised along at 65-70 mph. Plenty of zip accelerating even uphill. Really was a pleasure driving.Trailer was very well behaved also. My gas mileage averaged about 10.2. Nothing to brag about but with my leadfoot certainly understandable. Most trks probably wont be much different. It would do better if I could coax it into 7th gear which it did but not all the time. While that trailer was hooked up it never saw 8th gear. Mostly stayed in 6th. I have the 26 gallon tank and that really needs to be upgraded to the 33 gal optional tank to extend range. Thats about my only gripe with the truck.Without the trailer I can achieve 24-25 on the highway. Also if you are considering a Ram or any other Half Ton trk I would strongly suggest using Full Synthetic oil and changing it no later than 5K miles. These new trucks run hotter and oil temps along with it. The thinner oils manufacturers recommend dont help either. Overall we had a great trip seeing Family and Friends and getting on the road again. Hope this helps someone with their own rigs. Happy Camping

RE: Need New shocks.... opinions please!

I have had very good luck with Bilstiens. My monroes on my old D250 wore out in 3 years with low mileage.

RE: Florida State Parks increasing fees.

I guess we will find out on May 5th. Im guessing that it is as it says for non-registered users. Im not going to lose any sleep over it nor am I going to get nasty about it. I have always enjoyed Florida State Parks and Camping in general in Florida. I was a Snowbird and have been a full time resident for 8 years.I love it here.I do know that we lost about 900 campsites since Irma so that doesnt help and a lot of our visitors from Canada and elsewhere are not coming due to covid concerns and that causes loss of money but at least people can come here and vist and enjoy themselves.

RE: Trying to decide on whether or not to purchase-DECISION

I think you made a wise choice not to get the RV. Its not the right time especially if you may get another Dog. You wont be happy leaving your pet in a Kennel I'm sure. When the time is right you will know it. Things will fall into place. Best Wishes!

RE: You have 13 yrs 11 mths left to buy a GM gas or dsl vehicle

Electric vehicles are here to stay and will actually make in roads into combustion engine areas. There is always going to be some market for the Gas and Diesel engine. Let the market decide, dont mandate it. Tesla gave EV a big boost because they manufactured a decent choice, something with style and performance. The previous bunch of electric cars were ugly as sin. I wouldnt drive one but I would a Tesla. Plus they pushed the charging stations. Now we are seeing electric pickups which we need. They are not for everybody but people will seriously look at them as more variations are brought out.

RE: It's a wonderful day: COVID vaccinations

Due to get 2nd shot on Feb 5th. it was moved from 8th and location changed to bigger facility from Drs office. Fl was accused of sitting on doses but Governor made it clear that thoses doses in reserve were for people who already had their first shot and were rapidly approaching the dates for the second shot.

RE: Vaccinations

I received a call on the 11th from my Dr and she told she had it and did I want it? Hell Yea! **** near broke my leg getting there. Got shot and already have appt for second one. The County Health Depts are inundated with calls trying to set up appts but it will smooth out. Im in a rural town in SW Florida and I know its frustrating trying to get an appt. It will happen people. Last Feb we were in Key West with not a thought of Covid. Look how fast they got a vaccine out. Good Luck to everybody!

RE: Scary Incidents in Life, Part 1

Really enjoyed these stories! I was working one day on my Sons sailboat which is docked in SW Florida on a river. The cover for the exhaust was hanging open and I was trying to free it. I scanned the water to see if anything was lurking, just a few fish and turtles. I leaned over the transom to free the hinge whilst keeping an eye peeled. A few minutes gos by and I became a little too wrapped up in my work.I looked up and about 3-4 ft away was a Gator starring at me! Dropped my pliers in the water and got up quickly. He didnt advance but when I stood up he opened his mouth. ****! I learned my lesson. I also learned Tide is great on stains!:B

RV Cover Recommendations

Hi Folks! I want to get a cover for my TT that is going to be stored in Florida when not in use. The cover needs to be waterproof but still be able to breath and strong. Also needs to offset the Suns damage. I really dont know which one to get and what material. The sun is doing a number on my decals but I dont want mildew underneath either. Never had a cover before. Thanks!

Thank You!

We hear of many horror stories concerning our RV's, and I feel a pat on the back is warranted also! Many thanks to Dometic who reimbursed me for the electronic control on the hot water heater on my 2018 Sunset Trail Travel Trailer. We were on the road so I couldnt go to a dealer so I just bought one and replaced it myself. Dometic sent me a check quickly. Also Thanks to Lippert also for sending me out a Solara LED light strip that stopped working. Quick replies from both companies and its nice to deal with companies that stand behind their products.
