RE: Winterizing the coffee maker

Lesson Learned. I lost an inexpensive pressure washer to freezing in my shed. TT Coffee maker comes in the house, TT toaster comes in to, impossible to get all the crumbs out, etc.

RE: Cougar 22MLS vs micro Minnie 2108DS

A little note on lengths: as of 1/1/21 trailer lengths are overall lengths and not imaginary box lengths. The RVIA has finally adopted that standard. If they would get rid of manufacturers advertising dry weights and make them show gvwr and ccc only it would be even better. Wonderful. Does this mean they’re going to start using those lengths for the model names?

RE: Cougar 22MLS vs micro Minnie 2108DS

It's 26' overall length from bumper to hitch.. 8' wide and 11' tall.. The 22MLS is also 26' overall. Not sure why it's labeled a "22". The layout looks very similar to yours - minus the extra wardrobe slide. Most makers number their units by the flat floor length. The new standard is true length in the specs.

RE: Awful Awful Mattress

Zinus brand foam mattresses via Amazon are quite reasonably priced. You can get them in short/RV queen and thin or RV/bunk singles. Got the short queen around $250 and a single bunk one for around $115 or so. I removed the upper bunk entirely. Gave my queen to my daughter to double stack in their toy hauler and the factory bunk mattresses are bagged under our bed at home for resale rebuilding the bunks.

RE: Towing Capacity Question

It seems very few run up against max tow weight before running out of payload. You are not alone there. BTW, don’t forget to add the weight of a full tank of fuel to the weight of passengers, etc. At 7.2-7.4 lbs per gallon, a 20 gallon tank is going to add around 150 lbs to the mix. Please refer to your manufacture’s towing guide. ALL include a FULL tank of gasoline in towing capacity and load capacity values.

RE: RV width

The Wolf Pups are 85” wide (7’1”). But only 18’ long cabins.

RE: Do you sanitize your black tank?

This question brings to mind the people who think they can pick up a turd by the clean end!

RE: Towing with F150 Poweboost

Powerboost is the only F150 with a 30 gallon gas tank. That’s it’s only gas tank option. Battery space has to come from somewhere. Depending on the wheelbase & cab, standard tow package could have a 23 or 26 gallon tank with the other engines. HDPP & Max Tow get the 36 gallon tank non hybrid. Bottom line: 30 gallon ain’t bad.

Silver sharpies come in real handy for marking dark items.

RE: Crossover SUV trailers

The teardrop TABs seem pretty aerodynamic and light. Had a fellow camper in a teardrop pull in next to us once, just himself and a small dog. Looked nice from the outside.

RE: Opinion on Truck Reliability

Very reliable truck but what is it’s payload capacity? Who ______ing cares??? Not part of the equation nor relevant to the thread..... Lighten up, Francis. Truck payload is always important in discussing towing. Especially for 1/2 tons and diesel powered 3/4 ton trucks. Sadly, with the diesel eating up so much of the GVWR, many 1/2 ton trucks can meet or exceed a diesel powered 3/4 ton’s payload.

RE: Ford Factory F-150 Brake Controller - any good?

Yup, tow/haul mode and let the truck figure it out. Check your trailer tire speed rating. Most are under 75 and many are 65. I’ve found noticeable mpg differences in each 5mph increments above 55mph from TT vs. wind resistance. Around 65mph is my compromise sweet spot towing the TT for reasonable speed (time getting there) and mpg (10 mpg plus fractions) and not being a too slow road hazard. I say around 65mph because I let gravity do it’s work downhill and not sweat the speed drop too much uphills (but I try to stay above 55).

RE: Ford Factory F-150 Brake Controller - any good?

Mine was good for a couple of years but then got stuck on 10 (max) and won’t adjust. Truck is out of warranty but dealer had no idea how to fix it. Guess I’ll install an aftermarket. Just replace the stock unit. Easy plug and play, about $120 if you shop around. Any aftermarket brake unit will lose the integrated features with your dash display, mileage tracking, brake settings for different trailers, light checks, etc. OP, I have a P3 TBC I used in my Explorer. I prefer the F150 factory TBC. Same trailer.

RE: Opinion on Truck Reliability

Late to the party. Since the used truck market is hot right now, I think a decent used trade in plus $20K ought to get you a new sightly more basic 3/4 ton unit.

RE: Tow Vehicle Liability Insurance

I won’t touch Geico. Years ago, in the Navy, my shipmate’s wife worked for GEICO. THEY couldn’t get a policy with GEICO at the time. At that time they kept the rates low and payouts minimal by not insuring young unmarried men, boats, motorcycles, Jeeps, & similar. If you had an accident in the previous FIVE years, they wouldn’t touch you. Any accident, other than extremely low cost and there was NO policy renewal. GEICO was like a surge suppressor, they’ll save you once, then it’s gone! Cute little gecko be damned! USAA was formed as a mutual insurance company by several military officers. Initially only serving & retired military officers & candidates were accepted, later all military. Family members can continue as an associate member of the previously insured member., like my daughter. AFAIK, now military veterans are included. That’s one of the ways they keep their prices down, limiting to a more trustworthy subset of the culture.

RE: F-150 best add on mirrors for this shape of mirror

The aftermarket Ford towing mirrors only cost me $230 AND gave me heated mirrors & turn signals that I didn’t have before. You do have to get out and fold them in for a standard home garage opening or a car wash but well worth the added effort. Simple install. I considered the CIPA types but wanted the heat since I park outside in PA. Replacement standard size power mirrors with heat & signal were $140, still leaving the extension consideration.

RE: F-150 best add on mirrors for this shape of mirror

In my experience, none of the add on mirrors work very well. I'd look at spending the $ and adding the mirrors that came on the F150 with the towing package. Unfortunately if you want Ford tow mirrors, you have to order them as a separate option on a half ton truck. My towing package didn’t have them, Max Tow for my2019 didn’t have them. My aftermarket Tow Mirror factory copies gained me heat and turn signal for only $230. When ordering you need to confirm whether yours are 22 or 8 pin models.

RE: 2016 Eco boost

With the towing package (HD/ 53A) 9,000# GVWR trailer is a reasonable pull with data we have. IOW, 7-7,500# dry. There are several towing with the 2.7EB at 7,000#.

RE: Replacement WDH shaft

Did you ever measure your previous and new TVs hitch heights? With some, it’s significant but others minimal. Moving from my 2008 Explorer to my 2019 F150, the difference was within an inch, within tolerances for me. After “flipping” the TT axle, I had to lift the WDH ball about 5”, which required actually flipping the WDH shank.

RE: RV Dealers

The manufacturer’s website lists what the TT comes with, normally a spare tire and propane tanks.
