Hi, I heard from Mex about a week ago. Thank you for the update. How is he doing?

RE: Camping Lights

Don't know about pests, but lights have a tendency to attract insects not discourage them.

RE: Sewer Pipe Question

The next time add some bleach to your brush before doing the scraping. That should get rid of the slime for good.

RE: Camping Lights

That is why I boondock 99% of the time, I don't have to put up with the inconsiderate clowns.

RE: Disconnect battery when not using?

Yes, as said above you need to disconnect the batteries when you leave to head home. Not a good idea disconnecting until you get home. You need the battery connected for the break away switch while towing.

RE: Battery Replacement Assistance

Would a true 12v deep cycle battery accommodate this? If so, what brand/model do people recommend? If not, what other recommendations are there? I know of the 2 x 6v golf cart battery setup but would that be overkill for once a year? I appreciate any help! At Costco: One 12V Interstate deep cycle (150ah) - $239 Two 6V Interstate deep cycle (210ah) - $198

RE: Solar Panel, Unmarked Pigtails, which is Positive, Negative?

By looking at the direction of those diodes the pigtail with the red ring is positive.

RE: Suburban SW6 lights but drops out after 30+ seconds

Really glad to hear that you got it working. I had a similar problem with a gas valve years ago. The furnace would start and blow cold air until I give the gas valve a whack with a wrench. Then it would run great until until the next cycle.

RE: Jayco 50 years

In the April 2018 Trailer Life magazine (I'm a little behind in my reading) there is an ad from Jayco celebrating 50 years of fun, now almost 52 years, which leads me to believe that they must be doing something right. As you see we don't have one but I certainly would look at them if I had to buy another rig (at age 81 I don't intend to, however). So what have they been doing right? Can any other manufacturers match or exceed the 52 years? Yes, Airstream: 84 years.

RE: trik-l-start

The trik-l-start does not take power from your deep cycle house batteries and give it to your starting battery. Technically, it takes power from your charger/converter and charges your starting battery. The starting and house batteries are completely isolated. Quote from LSL website: Connects between your house and starting batteries - No extension cords or AC wiring needed. https://i.imgur.com/lmAW1kWl.gif

RE: Solar panels

I thank everyone for the info. I probably will just be using 12v for 2-3 days for the lighting and igniters. Got some Forest Service campgrounds that are nice for a couple of days. Something like this 200 watt portable would work good for you if you don't want a permanent setup.

RE: Solar panels

It depends on so many variables: . . . Solar is like horsepower, you never have too much and solar is cheaper than horsepower. I'll have to remember that last line ! I have 200 watts of solar with an MPPT controller feeding a 225 AH battery bank (two GC-2 6v batteries). I boondock for weeks at a time and the batteries are fully charged by early afternoon as long as it is not cloudy. I would consider this setup and absolute MINIMUM ! Yeah, a person needs at least 600-800 watts of solar and at least a 500 AH battery bank to boondock for a few days. :B
