RE: Wintering in a toy hauler

I get offered jobs in snowy areas of the country frequently but I've been leery of accepting one. Definitely not in my old rig which was built for AZ weather, but this one has R54 insulation everywhere and I'm thinking that if I can find a park open I could try it. Has anyone else done long term winter camping up in the northern part of the country? What was your experience? R-54 Everywhere? Not sure R-54 can be obtained anywhere in an RV... I would question the "Heat Calculations" considering the walls are only 1 1/2" thick and the ceiling 12" thick at best. The dead air space in the floor does not count for much...

RE: Slides and Jacks function trips then resets

The more often the circuit breaker trips, the weaker it becomes and will trip even more frequently. I have replaced mine twice in 8 years.

RE: Sewer smell

We had a similar issue of an odor we could not find the source. Turned out to be a leaking black water valve. It was leaking onto the underbelly space but not enough to get beyond the barrier and onto the ground. Once the valve was replaced the odor was gone.

RE: F450 vs 350/3500

Shopping for new tow vehicle. Bought a bigger 5th wheel ( 2013 Redwood 38BR ). The current Ram 2500 diesel srw will get it there but is pretty maxed out. The ratings of the dually 350/3500's certainly meet the requirements on paper. Like what I'm reading about the turning radius, breaking and heavier curb weight of Ford's F450 without getting in to a cab and chassis truck. Anyone have first hand experience/comparison with Ford's F450 compared to a F350 or Ram 3500? Thanks much I owned a 2005 F-350 with the 6.0 Liter Diesel. It was a very nice truck and did the job well. When I decided to upgrade to a 43' Toy Hauler, I knew I needed to upgrade the truck as well. So it 2011 I bought an F-450 which was well suited to towing our new 18K pound 5th wheel toy hauler. Drove the wheels off the 2011 and renewed the truck last year. Now driving a 2017 F-450 that pulls our 5er better than the 2011 did. The new 450s can tow almost anything that is built today. Good luck!

RE: Would you go with 2nd AC?

Get it with the factory installed 2nd AC with thermostat control. My dealership talked me into installing the AC after delivery which in retrospect was a mistake.

RE: Kingpin Tripod Stabilizer

We have JT Strong arms, X Chalks, and air ride king pin. Suffice to say my DW thinks the tri pod makes a difference therefore I set it up when we are staying for more than a week. Happy wife, happy life.

RE: 6.7 Diesel fuel mileage

Looking at a 2019 F-350 with a 6.7 diesel. Currently have a Triton V-10 that gets about 9 mpg. (about 6 mpg towing.) The sticker doesn't list mileage on the diesel. Wondering if the diesel gets better mpg and will it be enough to offset the higher cost of diesel fuel?(3.31 rear end) Thanks AL Not sure if you will ever off set the price of the engine/fuel but I do know you will be happy with the power/torque of the diesel over gas. I would recommend 3:73 gear ratio over the 3:31. My 2017 F-450 has the 6.7 Power stroke with 4:30 rear end. I get 14MPG solo and 9 MPG towing... If the wind is blowing, all bets are off. Bottom line IMO, you cant beat a diesel when towing. Regards Allan

RE: SRW vs DRW

Just remember one thing DRW (dual rear wheel) will NOT go through a Car/Truck Wash !! There are a few Car/Truck washes that can handle a DRW truck. You just have to look for them.
