RE: Mini Swamp Cooler (Arctic Air) - Legit?

We tried one last night for the first time in 85 degree temps. Is is just ok. It does produce cold air but it really needs more airflow. We are in a dry climate so there was no noticeably increase in humidity.

RE: East Coast Affiliates

ABC was the last network to agree to be included in DNS after the 2020 rule change https://tvanswerman.com/2020/06/01/directv-loses-distant-network-channels-under-new-law/ and recently they have had periods where one or another was not available. You receive a DTV message "721 - Not subscribed to this channel". Today the NY feed is not working, but the LA one is. This is very frustrating as we record network shows (not too many, but enough) off the NY feed. I guess I will waste another 2-3 hours on the phone with their tech support to try and get it resolved. Update: I double checked the ABC east feed (396) as I was getting ready to post this and surprise, surprise it was back. The mystery continues.

RE: East Coast Affiliates

Distant Network Services (DNS) is still available from DirecTV *IF* you have a mobile account (i.e. a separate account for your RV - not your home). You are limited to one DNS feed (all network channels) from either NY or LA depending on your billing address. There used to be a direct number to the DNS folks but the one I had no longer works. But try calling the Tech Assist folks at 800-676-3169. This is a direct line with no phone tree B.S to navigate. They may be able to help you with DNS.

RE: Torklift Glowsteps installed

I did the Glowstep thing two years ago. The best upgrade ever. No more diving board. No more broken rivets.

RE: DirecTV ABC E/W DNS Channels

The techno-wizards at DTV fixed their problem sometime early Friday. The promised email keeping me aware of the issue never appeared. Apparently their communication skills are even worse than their technical ones.

DirecTV ABC E/W DNS Channels

It appears the technology giants at DirecTV have a problem with their DNS channels 395 and 396. These are the ABC feeds for the east and west locations. Channel 395 (ABC East) is giving an error message 721 - this program is not part of your package. Channel 396 the ABC West feed gives the message 727 - this channel is blacked out in your area. The support folks are aware of the issue and are working on a resolution. I first noticed this on Sunday evening and they are still inop today (Wednesday). The tech guy said it would be 48-72 hours before it is fixed. We are past that time. Am I the only one with this issue? I expected others here with the DirecTV DNS package would be having the same outage.

RE: winegard automatic swm3 antenna

As a RF Mogul customer I found them to be terrific to deal with. They do have local people who do installs. And the price, installed, was $1850- less than what Winegard wanted. I boondock a lot and wanted the controller to be 12V powered. After talking to the support folks, no problem. The 120V normal supply is converted to 12V anyway and a direct 12V connect is fine. No need to fire up the generator or inverter to get the antenna up and running. The support folks in Salt Lake City are easy to contact and work with you through any problem. Try that with Winegard. Plus if parts are required, they ship them to you if that is what you want. One additional feature is they use a standard LNB (in my case DirecTV) so replacing it is inexpensive and easy. There are 6 of us in our camping group and all but one now use the RF Mogul.

RE: Directv/ATT vs Local CBS station... Question

Now that LCC is an interesting idea! Of course AT&T won't give you one unless one or more of your locals have been blacked out. But reality says most of us will have another blackout sometime in the (near) future. I am wondering if I am lucky enough to get a LCC from DTV, what happens when the blackout is resolved? Can I keep it? The setup instructions seem to imply you have the LCC scan for local channels and the Genie will integrate them into the directory. Can I hop into my RV and move, with my Genie and LCC, to another location (out of my home spot beam), rescan for locals, and now have them available via the Genie. This sure would solve a lot of problems for some of us. Plus it might give us access to the OTA sub-channels (the dot.N ones) that we don't get now?
