Malheur/Burns Oregon in May to see the birds

The wife and I would like to go over to Malheur National Wildlife Refuge out of Burns, Oregon in the first couple of weeks in May. Like to see the birds. Not many places for a 34 foot 5th wheel around the area that I know of. There is Narrows RV Park close to the lake. Possibly something in the area around Burns itself? Also like to see an old school friend in Lewiston, Idaho in June. Thinking it might be nice to camp overnight along the way and not push it or be in a hurry. Pulling a 5th wheel any more, about after five hours of being behind the wheel it starts to get old for me. After all, we are supposed to be retired. My wife saw Plymouth Park, Army Corps of Engineers at Plymouth WA. Then we will probably stay at Hells Gate State Park along the Snake River in Lewiston ID. Any suggestions on where you would recommend staying or added tips would be great.

Ever hear of this camping company? Harvest Host

Here is want I wrote to the Harvest Host for a reply. At first glance I had great hope of becoming a member. I am looking for sites that are rural, quiet, farm, country sitting and forest sittings. I am retired and have a top of the line Mobile Suite 5th wheel and pull it with a newer Ford dually truck. To replace this RV sit up would be over $225,000.00 plus. So, this should give you some indication that I am not a homeless RV traveler. Don't get me wrong, I worked as a laborer most of my life and earned it the hard way. Here are the obstacles I see before joining your program. 1. Only being able to stay 24 hours or overnight at the sites. Most of the people I know are looking for a quiet spot to stay for several days or a week/plus. After driving hundreds of miles or five plus hours in hopes to arrive at a vacation spot and having to leave the next morning or day doesn't appeal to me. Move everyday! Get out of here. 2. Not being able to see what the sites are like before signing up for a membership. I seen a lot of RV sites that look like Homeless camps and if you're not careful a person can be stuck in one of these dumps. 3. If your company and the Host do not have anything to hide, be open and truthful. I am willing to give references, pictures of my RV and so on, but I will be **** if I am going to travel hundreds of miles not knowing what the site is like and if it is a safe place for my family. 4. Your company sounds like a scam. Pay up front first $99.00 without being able to fully check out your sites and more. 5. Word of mouth travels fast. Like on RV.net. The Good, Bad and Ugly.

RE: Liquid rubber

This year, I took on completely re-coating my RV roof with Henry 877 Tropi-Cool 100% Silicone White Roof Coating. Products cost about the same online or Home Depot. $239.89 for large tub of Henry's coating and $12.99 per tube of caulking. If you see from my previous post a couple of weeks ago, I did a lot of research trying to find the best product to repair/re-coat my RV roof with. I worked like a dog for nearly a week trying to beat the Fall weather. Wished I could of done the roof repair/coating in better weather conditions. Sweating bullets all week worrying about the possibility of rainy weather. Below is my step-by step process, along with before/after pictures. CAUTION! Slow down on the roof. If you fall off you will probably spend a lot of time in the hospital recovering if you are lucky! My Process Well it took me most of a week to completely re-coat my RV roof! Tuesday Morning Using a mixture of bleach, TSP, and water, hand scrub the entire roof (I did use a pressure washer to get the dirt out from under the roof air conditioner units). This took me a good part of the day alone! Peel off the old, very thin rubber coating Three and a half days later, wearing out a pair of leather gloves, I thought I gave it my best shot at getting off the old coating Saturday Afternoon Apply the new coating Clean out all of the old caulking above the roof gutter and replace it with new Henry's caulking. Mix the coating with a drill. Pour out about one quart into a paint tray. The Henry 877 coating pours out like the thickness of pancake syrup. Use a leaf blower to blow off any material laying on the roof Begin applying the Henry 877 using a four inch paint brush to do the corners, sides, roof pipe outlets, vents and air conditioners. I only did a 5 to 7 foot section at a time. Use a 9 inch long by 1/2 inch nap paint roller to spread out the Henry's roof coating. This took about two to three hours to fully cover the 8 foot wide by 34 foot long 5th wheel roof with one coat. On the next day, apply a second coat. I used about a full 5 gallon tub/container to do two coats. Lessons Learned: Try to apply the coating on fairly calm day. The wind can carry the coating in the air when applying it. I applied the coating when the temperature was in the mid 60's to upper 68 degrees. Sun helps, but I cannot imagine trying to apply Henry's coating or any other roof coating on a day when it is approaching upper 70 degrees or higher. Too hot for me to do a roof!. The roof must be completely dry before applying the new coating. During the Fall season, moisture in the morning is hard to dry off the roof, you may have to wait for the sun to come out. Dampness or morning dew can take several hours to dry off the roof. Give yourself plenty of time to do a good job. The faster you try to apply the roof caulking or roof coating you are most likely to do a sloppy job and have a mess. Conclusion Got lucky this time around! Henry's 877 when on fine, thick enough to be impressive and I believe I made the right product choice.

Were to purchase a new air bed.

Patched the air lick in the L shaped air bed before but now I can not find the link. Tried soapy water and water hose but it has a very slow link. Were can I purchase a new L shape bed the hides or folds up in the storage part of my couch? It L shaped when blown up. Part of the air bed goes over the couch set area and some on the floor. Just possibly found it. I think it is an Endura Ease Air Sleep System Air Mattress. On line from factory $280.00. Hoping to fine it for a lower cost through amazon but their out of stock.

2010 Mobile Suites shock absorbers : See updated post

I have a 2010 32TK3 Mobile Suites Shock absorbers: Look like they are Yellow Lippert 177734 that seem to be weak and to be lower quality???. Looking to replace them with Heavy Duty Gas type Bilstein shocks if Bilstein offer them. Learned not to be cheep on parts. Willing to pay extra to get a good quality shocks. Hoping I am headed in the right direction. Any suggestions would be of help to me; brand, were to purchase and so on please. Update Sept 14,2021 Just received the Lippert shock and installed them yesterday. I purchased the above shocks for a 2010 Mobile Suites 32 TK3. The 5th wheel weighs approximately 12,000 ibs. dry weight and around 15,000 to 16,000 lbs loaded. The Lippert shlock replacement seems to be weak and not the right size for this size of a trailer. At best in my opinion the Lippert 283280 shock seems to be designed for light duty trailer only and will not hold up to this size to an application. If I wasn't pressed for time I would not have installed the Lippert shocks and would have purchased an adapter kit to install much heavier duty Bilstein Shock or higher quality shocks than the Lippert. I feel that I will be very disappointed with the Lippert size and quality of these shocks and will have to replace them very soon. update Sept 15 2021:   After you put the new Lippert shock on your rig you can't take them back for a refund.  Called Double Tree RV technical services and and they recommended to use the Monroe RV shocks that are a lot better and heavier duty.  My mistake and I am learning the hard way once again.

Mt. Ranier Washington Camping Recommentions?

I have a 34 foot 5th wheel. With the truck connected the total length is 50 foot. Like to spend a week or so in the area hiking and relaxing in the mountain area. Looking for a nice camping area recommendations with water and electricity hook-ups. Years ago Packwood, WA didn't seem to have RV site that you would want the take your wife or grandkids to because of safety reasons. Hope I wrong now and things are much better. Retired finally! Any recommendation?

RE: Any campground suggestions East of Roseburg,Oregon?

If anyone has a area, camp site or grounds to get away from the hazel and bushel of the city please send a reply. I am retired and always looking for a nice, quite, peaceful campsite. Love the quite country and mountains. It seem like it is getting harder to find camping areas were you don't have to make reservations 6 to 9 months in advice and were there isn't a ton of people even in off season like late September or October.

RE: Any campground suggestions East of Roseburg,Oregon?

Want to get away from I5 noise, smell and traffic. I plan on going camping and looking for the quite country life with trees, mountains streams back quite country roads. Thirty plus miles off of I5 to find a nice camp site to stay week or two wouldn't be too far. I am retired now. Use to drive from Salem to Portland, Oregon commute for 24 years on I5, approximately 114 mile a day for work. Not a big fan of freeway anymore.

Any campground suggestions East of Roseburg,Oregon?

Haven't done much RVing east of Roseburg, Oregon and now we are look for recommendations. Wouldn't mine if I have to go a little south east of Roseburg to get a good site. Thirty plus miles off of I5 to find a nice camp site to stay a week or two wouldn't be too far. I have a 34 foot 5th wheel and when hooked up I am about 50 foot in length. So I need a good size camp site. Like to have at least water and electricity. Sure, trees and water like a creek is always nice. Nice county RV parks are OK. PS: Make your reservations early. I am having trouble getting anything within six months out. All the State Parks are getting booked up in Oregon. Every year it getting worst and worst to find an RV site in Oregon. I have even looked 9 months in advice some years and can't get a site. The Oregon Coast line is the worst in the summer/fall to find a spot. Charles
