RE: Anyone use a 5th wheel as a 'snowbird home'?

I realize the park models may be a little larger in terms of square footage, but it's easier and less expensive to find a good used 5'r. I just wonder if it's practical enough to use for a few weeks here and there. I've had a seasonal campsite before with a TT and that was great for the summers, but with the property being down south (we're in PA) we might use it whenever the mood strikes us.

RE: Doing something wrong with winterizing

I actually take the shower hose off after making sure the red stuff flows through it.

Doing something wrong with winterizing

I've been winterizing my own Class Cs for the past ten yrs...but the past three yrs I've apparently had a problem with the shower. Everything else- spigots, toilet, water heater- have been find when I de-winterized. But several yrs in a row I've had to replace the shower spigot. One yr it was leaking, and this yr the vacuum breaker had a small leak. I didn't have these issues the first yrs but it's been a few in a row. Maybe it's coincidence but I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong with the shower spigot.

Anyone use a 5th wheel as a 'snowbird home'?

Has anyone used a 5th wheel (or a TT) and set it up on a lot, using it as a snowbird place in the winter to escape the cold north for a few months? If you have, what has your experience been? Was it worth it or did you regret it? Pros and cons? We own property in a southern state and the plan was to relocate south and build a home for retirement. An option that I've been mulling lately is to maybe just keep our home in the northeast, and buy a clean, large (with multiple slideouts) used 5th wheeler and set it up on our lot and use it for a few months each year, mostly in the winter. Just curious as to whether this is a viable idea and how others who've tried it liked it.

Generator powers tv, microwave, nothing else

We just returned to PA from FLorida last month and everything electrical except the power steps were working fine. We took the Class C to a local RV dealer to get the steps fixed and the slideout lubricated. I tried the slide out with the genny on and it wouldn't work. I then noticed the lights wouldn't work with the genny on, either. Only the microwave and tv were working. THe overhead lights and the slideout worked fine with the house battery. THe dealer was closed when I got there to pick it up so I couldn't ask him or have him look at it. Any ideas on what the problems could be?
