RE: This is our RV electric future. It's the future man!

"Anyway, how about a link to Biden saying he wants to put fossil fuel companies out of business. Obviously we all want that eventually" Biden did say that, but I can't provide a link. And, OBVIOUSLY, we all don't want the fossil fuel companies out of business, not even eventually.

RE: Best Hitch

Do you mean chocked? I don't think a piece of chalk would help. :D

RE: Upgrade to 5th wheel

We had to get the truck 90° to the trailer once. Glad we had a long bed. But I understand a sliding hitch does the same for a short bed.

RE: Upgrade to 5th wheel

Aren't most 5th wheel trailers 8' wide? And aren't most short bed pickups less than 4' from rear axle to cab?

RE: Best Hitch

Yes, we do a trailer brake test. Our leveling system doesn't provide for a means to have the landing gear jacks a couple inches off the ground so a pull test would have to either be done with one jack grounded or one jack a couple inches above ground or both jacks stowed. I guess I could drag the landing gear jacks with a pull test. But I would rather not since the visual check is such a good indication.

RE: My Coach Net experience tonight.

With the exception of mandatory insurance and $1000 deductible collision insurance, we are "self insured". We don't buy extended warranties, etc. These companies are in business to make money, so the premiums they charge must cover everything they must pay out including employee salaries plus make a profit.

RE: Best Hitch

Exactly what I said. He obviously had one of those "certain" hitches in which a visual test wasn't enough. Edit: OR he didn't even do a visual check.

RE: Best Hitch

It is my understanding that it is NOT needed IF you have certain hitches AND if a visual check is done.

RE: Lithium crossing the acceptance threshold…

First of all, Campfire is a dumb place to put a tech discussion. I'm curious but too lazy to research for myself but maybe someone else already has. How many 6v gc batteries would it take to equal the usable capacity of my 3 206 a/h LFP batteries? And what would be the weight difference?

RE: Lithium crossing the acceptance threshold…

Well, this thread may not be an "issue", but it is technical. Campfires aren't technical.

RE: Lithium crossing the acceptance threshold…

Haha, where will it go next? Maybe consider moving all the EV baiting troll threads from Tow Vehicles to Campfire as well.;) I second that. ;) :B

Thank you, Mr Cummins12V98. Good to know.

RE: How many folks want an EV

We have one vehicle (see signature) and full time. And we're 75 years of age. I have no desire to own an EV and don't ever plan to own one. If all the current vehicles were EVs, then the problem would become how to charge them all. And how long will it take for all electric production to be "green"? And at what cost?

RE: Best Hitch

We're not new to RVs but fairly new to 5th wheel RVs. A forum member recommended the Hensley BD-5 hitch to us and after doing some research, we bought one. And we are very happy with it. Very comfortable ride. I guess I don't understand what all the fuss is about "pull tests". But it might be because I only know about the above mentioned hitch. When hitching up, we visually look to see if the jaws are closed on the king pin and check to see if we can see that the bottom flange of the king pin is below the jaws. We then check to see if the locking arm is in the 8 o'clock position (which locks the jaws around the kng pin). If all that is correct, I simply don't see a reason for the pull test. Am I missing something?

RE: Lithium crossing the acceptance threshold…

I would love to see the cost of LiFePO4 batteries come down, but I still think they are worth every penny. I have 618 ah in 3 of them. How many golf cart batteries would I need for the same amp hours? And then there is the space and weight difference.

It a sad world we live in when we have to worry about pissing off criminals.

RE: TV connection from front TV to bedroom class A

LouLawrence, it is NOT theft of service. I pay for the rcvr and 2 Joey's. I can watch 3 different programs on 3 TVs. So what was I stealing? For your 2nd post, I installed the Hopper system in my RV and knew it would work before installing it. I bought the Winegard Trav'ler 3 LNB antenna for Dish. It receives the same 3 satellites that the Hopper 3 received when the rcvr was in our house before we sold it and went full time. BTW, the wireless Joey gets its signal from the main receiver and not from the antenna (dish). So if the OP had a wireless Joey in his house that worked with his Walley receiver, then it WILL work in his RV.

RE: 5th Wheel vs. Gooseneck

Question: When going over uneven railroad tracks or something similar, can the gooseneck style hitch allow the trailer to tilt enough sideways to damage the pickup bed rails?

RE: Stops Catalytic Converter thefts! (inexpensive method)

I'm curious - is the CC on a diesel pickup higher or lower priority for a thief? I heard the CCs on a diesel are less likely to be stolen. But it was never confirmed. Years ago, we had a ATV stolen during the night while parked at a RV park. They simply rolled it away some time during the night. Harbor Freight sells a "driveway alert" and its cheap. If I had placed it underneath the ATV, they wouldn't have been successful.
