RE: Securing batteries in forward compartment (Security)

I just installed 4 t125s upfront in a rubber made box. In order to vent I drilled two holes through in the base. I'm not concerned with theft, however that answers your question. Buyer a thick gorilla cable lock with round key that goes through the hole and around the batteries. That would do it. I would also place a door alarm on it as the first line of defense linked to the all the lights so their is sound plus lights before they figure out hos to cut the cable... Happy trails

RE: Pullrite Superglide or Demco Hijacker?

I installed the Pullrite Superslide 16K with the removable flush mount bed system. My truck did not have the "puck system" but came set up to pull a TT in the camper package. Took me about 5 hours to put it in. I measured three times before I drilled a hole and watched a couple youtube videos on it. Great hitch I like it. TV is a F250 SB CC

RE: Duracell 6 volt batteries

What I find interesting is that on these 6 volt flooded battery threads its not stated how far these batteries are discharged. Yes that's how they are rated by number of full discharge cycles. So im guessing they are drawn down to almost nothing. However what I have found using Trojan T 125s is that if you hold the discharge to no greater than 50% they keep going on and on. Sold my first TT after 10 years with two Trojans T125s, still going. Bought a new to us TT 4 years ago and its a no brainer another two. We just traded up to a fiver and I added two more. So now up to 4 Trojans 125's. I know Ill get 10 plus years out of them. I use the Trimetric 2030rv meter to let me know state of charge and just upgraded to 648 watts of solar. Its a delight not to worry about it.

RE: Campgrounds Within 5 Hours of Long Island

We traveled with our daughter and friend for years. These are a few places that we wnet to not far off of Eastern Long Island Danforth Bay Lake Ossippee New Hamsphire, Bar Harbor KOA both with in 5 hours from the ferry to New London. Cape Cod Camping Resort about 1.5 hours from the ferry. Lots to do with the kids as is PineWood in Plymouth Mass. Cape Cod and Pine Wood both have lakes and pools. Koa Bar Hawbah has someone who cooks Lobstah dinners right in the CG.Free shuttle bus from the CG to around the Island. Pinewood is 10 minutes to downtown Plymouth. Take a ferry across Cape Cod bay to P Town go whale watching etc. Cape Cod has a rail trail. They paved the rail road tracks and you can bike from town to town. Danforth bay in Lake Ossippee, Mount Washington nearby plus lots to do nearby by. Clarks famous dancing bear etc.

RE: Baltimore Tunnel

We just bought a new to us fifth wheel and live on Eastern Long island. First: Get up top with a tape measure an know exactly how tall you are. They said that we are 13.6 but when I measured wwe were 12. 6. I added maxx air covers and we are now 13' even. Second: Buy a truckers map and or a rv/truckers gps. regular GPS will NOT indicate low bridges and truck routes. Third: You CANNOT take the 495/BQE to leave Long Island an more like we did with a TT. There is a 12'6" bridge obstruction. Now its the George Washington Bridge or other north routes when going south. Fourth: Unless you like sitting in traffic, the magic launch time to get over the bridges is 3 am. We did that last year and set down on Fredericksburg KOA of exit 126 on I95 VA around 1pm. Took a power nap, when to dinner. Woke up and continued southbound. Happy Trails

RE: Honda 2000: surprisingly poor oil fill tube design

Ive had an oil change "pump", since owning a boat with a v6 down below. I use it on the 2000 as well as other small motors. Start it up, warm up the oil, turn off, then suck out the oil. Putting oil back in i use a funnel and look, add some, look add some.

RE: Plug it in or shut it down

During the "season" April-October, the camper is plugged in with the refrig on. In the "off season' Water systems are winterized with rv anti freeze, refrig is off with door left open, camper is plugged in, which keeps the batteries in shape. Been doing it this way for 15 years.

RE: storing power cord on new f'ver

I just bought a shorter one as the one that came with it is just to hard to coil up. I bought a 25ft one coils up nicely.

RE: Parallel batteries and a question regarding reserve capacity

Trojan T 125s 2 6 volt GC batteries. Sold my first TT with them on after 10 years going strong. Bought our second TT now 5 years, selling that. Upgraded to a Fifth Wheel, added two more for 4-T125's As mentioned never let them go below 50% and they will last forever. Present set up, as we dry camp a lot. 428 watts solar, 4 t125s, 2000 watt Xantrax inverter. Led lights through out. Turned off converter, frig and water heater to gas, plugged in inverter and fiver is powered up. Adding a few more solar panels. Only issues are long dark days. We also carry a honda 2000 for back up. Hope this helps.

RE: RV Blinds

Need them to be black out shades. To block 100% of the light coming in so we can sleep. Seems light rvers like to sleep with all their lights on at night. Really annoying.

RE: Golf Cart Battery Boxes (Housing)

Century Plastics makes a box that will hold 4. Other than a battery dealer or auto parts, you cant get that shipped same day, maybe next day. I also saw someone place 4 in a rubber made container. I have two Trojans 125's and buying 2 more T-125's. I'm going to look at the rubber made tote first. Its about half price. Mine will sit inside my fiver cargo bay. If I had a TT I would look no the tork lift box.

RE: Converter Location

Follow the shore power plug, should be behind that. In my FR I had to remove a panel in the basement it was behind that. If you listen you can hear them hum.

RE: Rancho 9000's or Bilsteins?

The votes are overwhelmingly for Bilsteins. My Platinum Ford is not lifted so Im going to order the 4600's. Also considering some kind of steering stabilizer as I have had a couple of death wobbles. While it may not cure it all, I dont see how it could hurt. Towing the biggest thing yet and while it rides smooth, I would like to have the odds in my favor. Thank You for your input. Happy Trails

Rancho 9000's or Bilsteins?

I have a Ford F250 Quad Cab Short Bed now pulling a 2014 FR Heritage Glen FW. While connecting my Pullrite Super Slide I noticed that my rear shocks outer-case covering the rams are rusting away. So Adjustable 9000's pr Bilsteins? Any thoughts and opinions would be helpful. Also not sure if I need air bags or not, seems to ride failry level but that was unloaded. We are beginning o transfer our stuff from our TT to the FW. Happy Trails
