RE: Well I'll be dipped!

I use the "ignore" button, the one in my brain. Works much better. If you let it ruffle your feathers, the issue is yours, not theirs.

RE: Mattresses, what’s your recommendation and why?

Maybe I’m an oddity, but I get a chuckle out of people worrying about mattresses. Consider yourself lucky. I am really fussy-if it's too hard or too soft, I can't sleep.

RE: RVing to the Island Provinces

Have been to all but Labrador. The only ferry you absolutely need is from Nova Scotia to Newfoundland. The rest can be accessed by land, including PEI which has been accessible by bridge for some time now. If you want to take ferries you can take ferries out of Bar Harbor, ME to Yarmouth, NS, from Portland, ME to PEI, and Sydney, NS to Port-aux-Basques or Argentia, NFLD. The ferry to PAB is a 7 hour crossing while the one to Argentia is 16 hours. I'd take the day sail to PAB but it all depends on where you want to be in NFLD. It will also depend on whether or not you are prone to sea sickness as they do traverse open water. In any case make a back-up plan. Our last attempt to get to Newfoundland ended in NS due to bad weather that hung around for a few days. If you choose to drive to NB I would go up 95 to Bangor, ME, then hook over to Rt. 9 (use your GPS but I think it's 395 to 46). That will connect you with Rt. 1 and you can follow the signs to Calais. From there it's pretty much up to you as to what route to take depending on what you want to see. Calais has the amenities you will need to stock up if you need to before you cross the border.

RE: Break down

The GOOD news (And it's not all that good) is the expected homicide total for this year is like 62% of what it was last year or the year before. Wish I could say that for New Hampshire. Last year we had 19 homicides. Already this year we've had 22, five within the last week. A number of them have been in what most would call "sleepy little towns". Keep your guard up.

RE: Break down

Any place is a dangerous place if you are not aware of your surroundings and keeping your head on a swivel. Letting your guard down is more dangerous than being in any city.

RE: Panic Water buying Again?

Could it be because of the drought and people are afraid they will run out of drinking water? I doubt monkeypox has anything to do with it.

RE: Recommendations for a Fall trip to Maine

Our goals for this trip are to see some beautiful Fall colors and as few other people as possible (after Acadia). There's no guarantee on either. There are averages but foliage season has a mind of it's own. I'd recommend one of the foliage tracking sites online to get an idea of how the season is progressing. Maine has been ranging from unusually dry to moderate drought, which may have an affect on the colors. To avoid crowds I'd take secondary highways and back roads, look for old barns, fields, swamps and cemeteries (yes, cemeteries!) to find what fall in New England really looks like. The issue you may find with this, as we do, as there isn't always a place to park to take a picture.

RE: Attn Dedmiston

Y'all must be soft..... When asking ANYTHING on here, you had better be prepared for anything and everything... Old Biscuit was more than willing to " give it" BUT... that almost always came with very valuable information... I didn't even realize he was gone but I'm not surprised and honestly not at all upset. He did offer valuable advice at times but he often went well beyond snarky to being offensive. At times he was just a mean-spirited old man. As far as being prepared for anything and everything there's no need nor excuse for rudeness, belittling, holier-than-thou responses or condescension. We all started somewhere and what is common sense for some may require coaching for others. I don't RV any more but come here still because I can still offer some advice and enjoy conversing with the people on here. Just ask yourself before you hit the "post message" button is this a "value add" response or am I trying to make myself look superior.

RE: Crossing into Canada

The border officer would enter your name into his data base and determine if your Arrive Can was proper and you had disclosed a scan of your vaccinations. We just returned from Canada on the 7th. He never touched his computer. He just looked at the passports and handed them right back. Saw both hands the whole time. I figured he'd do what you said but he didn't. Neither did the agent when we came back across.

RE: Crossing into Canada

We just crossed over from Calais, ME to St. Stephen, NB. We filled out the ArriveCan form on line and the border guard never asked for it. He only wanted our passports. If you read the "fine print" it doesn't say they won't let you into the country but you COULD be denied. To cross back into the US proof that you are a US citizen is all that is needed.
