Floor Protection Questions

Our current house is not as puppy friendly as our old one. We have hardwood floors (already compromised by dogs) and I know the best way to protect them from scratches is short nails. If he pees, clean it up quick. However, when he is very young we will most likely keep him upstairs in our office, which has the hardwood flooring. What is the best way to protect the floor? He will be in a pen until he is housebroken/crate trained. I was thinking of putting a plastic sheet of some sort as a base layer covered by heavy blankets and using wee wee pads. He can stay in the basement but I don't want to leave him alone down there by himself. At our old house our downstairs bathroom was fairly large with a tile floor. The extra bathroom in this house is much smaller-with a beautiful cabinet I don't want eaten! Thanks!

RE: Canadians allowed across US land border for vaccinations

Stick your heads back in the sand and wait for your social security check to show up so you can go mask up and go OUT to dinner.... Already going out shopping, to dinner, mingling in crowds, etc, without a mask. Welcome to the "Live Free or Die" state! Masks now optional for many places in NH. Other states are the same. If I'm not comfortable I mask up. If I am I don't. Want to be maskless? Get vaccinated.

RE: National Parks entry tickets

Many people never used their vacation time last year and have hit "use it or lose it" situations. In past years they may have only gone to one or two parks but this year they might be able to see 3 or 4.

Saw that one too. Meanwhile both sides suffer.

RE: Frustrating BZB Products experience

Sorry for all the hate here, but I'm not surprised. Hate? That's a bit extreme. OP was looking for opinions and just lamenting a bit, which is understandable. He got opinions and I don't see him taking offense. I don't think anyone was hateful but we're a bit surprised that it's an issue.

Maybe: https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/coronavirus/confusion-abounds-after-u-s-border-agency-bars-entry-to-canadians-looking-to-get-vaccinated-1.5434903 Or is it they have to quarantine for 14 days when they return. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/vaccine-border-u-s-quarantine-1.6033711 Anyone considering this option might want to wait until the two governments get their spit together.

RE: Frustrating BZB Products experience

While I sympathize with your plight, BZB can't be held responsible for what has happened. I don't mean to sound nasty because it's not meant that way but if they caved for every sob story they'd go broke. I agree with some of the others-see if you can find a way to sell it. It's a PITA but it's better than losing out on the money. Other option: Talk to the shop that did the repairs and ask them if it's something they might want to purchase it from you. Explain it was because they took so long that you couldn't get it back to the seller in time. Long shot at best but who knows.

RE: Driving people to boondock by calling themselves a "Resort"

I don't think the biggest consideration for boondocking is price. I think it's more lifestyle based than economic. I have no interest in boondocking. That's not what I RV for. Many boondockers have no interest in a developed campground, regardless of cost. It's a mindset and not much else.

RE: Cost of RVing

LOL! Wonder how they did their research? Guess they don't consider the unit itself an expense. I'd love to see a $20 campsite (other than maybe a federal site or something) for $20 up here in the northeast!

RE: Travel buddies

3) if i would read what is written on those government websites i would never ever travel somewhere... Bingo. You want to get scared? Read the advisories for cities like LA, NYC and Chicago as well as the US in general. Tourist areas in SA are safe. I have researched the country in depth because we plan on going there within the next 3-5 years. As in all travel heed guidelines, etc. That said you don't say when you plan on going. Personally I would wait until COVID is better under control. This is the website with the info regarding the importation of animals: https://www.gov.za/services/import/import-animals-and-animal-products

RE: Best/Favorite RV Resort

What is your definition of "resort" and how much are you willing to pay? "Resort" means different things to different people. That will help guide us.

RE: Finally some good news on the puppy front!

Toadtoes/Pawz4me, both of you have given the reasons why we are questioning the sanity of two. Our two springers were 4 months apart and they were awesome together. No issue establishing pecking order-Jesse was top dog and Jake knew it, but Jake's making up for lost time very well. I definitely agree with the issue of potentially losing two dogs near each other but it's the first I've heard of trainers recommending against it. My SIL breeds/trains labs and she things two are not an issue. Will definitely think about it a LOT LOL! Gordons will run until they drop. Tons of energy but my springers also were like that. And believe it or not my bloodhound. Not as much as the Gordons or springers but more than most people think. Hubby and I are both 60 and we want to wear out rather than rust out so yes, we are active. Or nuts. Or both!

RE: Poconos PA to Bar Harbor Maine -- need advice

Lots of neat small towns in all of New England. Favorites are Newport, RI, Gloucester/Rockport/Newburyport, MA, Ogunquit, Boothbay Harbor and surrounds in Maine. Coastal drive in NH is short but very pretty. Easy access to multiple beaches and awesome food at Petey's in Rye. Acadia National Park in Maine of course. Lots of history in Concord area of MA. Boston, of course, is loaded with history. Just don't take the TT in there! There's so much history up here I'm not sure were to begin! Oh, forgot about Gettysburg. No walking necessary around the battlefields. All driveable. I would, however, check ahead and see what's open for facilities and what hours they are open. This area is starting reopen quickly and by Memorial Day should be back to some semblance of normalcy. Some places will still require masks but others won't and at the very least should not need to be worn outside (unless by choice).

Finally some good news on the puppy front!

We will have a Gordon setter puppy by the end of July. Litter was born 2 days ago. We have 2nd pick on a male-sire owner has first pick. Our pick will be based more on personality than looks so being #2 is fine. Toying with the idea of getting two if another is available to take the stress off of poor old Jake (who is actually doing very well). Not sure if that's crazy or smart!

RE: Interstate highway conditions

The federal infrastructure plan from 2017 to 2021 never materialized. Things will get better soon. LOL Yup. Seems to me that $174 billion on electric vehicles and $6 billion on a library won't help the roads much. There is $115 billion earmarked for roads, bridges, etc. but somehow I'm sure it will never make it there.

Agree with Drew. More info on likes/dislikes will help a lot. There's so much up this way it's impossible to even start.

Some info that might be of interest. Partway down you'll see a note about getting an RV to AK from WA. https://www.travelalaska.com/GetInspired/Blog/May-2021-Travel-Tips.aspx

RE: RV Storage Fire

I sure am glad that I store mine at home. I hope Karma doesn't come bite you in the butt! Friends of mine had their TT destroyed by a falling tree at their seasonal site. Just because you don't store it off-site doesn't mean it's exempt from danger. It's sad to see so many go at once. Whatever's gonna happen is gonna happen.
