RE: Campgrounds in Yellowstone...to reserve ahead or not?

If you want to go to a place, why wouldn't you want to reserve a spot, especially in peak season?

RE: New England, New Brunswick, Quebec, Nova Scotia

The people of Quebec City know where their income comes from and will extend themselves to speak English. Montreal, not so much. I used to be a fire fighter and I would always stop at a firehouse in whatever city I was in to get information on the local points of interest. I went to the main firehouse in Montreal and ran into a firefighter on the apparatus floor. I said Hi and asked "parlez vous English?" (that's the end of my French) He returned with the question " parlez vous francais?". When I replied in the negative, he said to me, in English, that he would not talk to me and walked away. Luckily another fire fighter witnessed this and went and found someone that did speak English. He was happy to speak to me because he was trying to improve his English. I have several other examples where I had problems with the language barrier. But Montreal is a nice city. If you get a chance, investigate the Bay of Fundy. It has some beautiful scenery and it is know for the largest tidal range (vertical difference between the high tide and the succeeding low tide) in the world. Depending on where you are, it can be between 35 -50 feet. The St. John River flows through the City of St. John NS and it has what is called the "reversing falls". Nova Scotia is kind of stark, but pretty. It looks like they are changing the provincial parks to self service and laying off or cutting back on park employees. ((clicky)

RE: Heading to Camden Yards, need advise on campground

The intent is to visit D.C. by day and Camden Yards by night. That's probably not doable if you really want to see DC. No matter where you stay it's at least 45 minutes to an hour in and an hour out of DC on public trans. And another 45 minutes to an hour in and out for Baltimore. Visiting DC, while small, will consume a lot of time if you really want to see it all. That being said, Cherry Hill is a good selection. Baseball games start at 7:30. OP could tour DC 8-5 and still make it to the game. They can try it if they want. I'm just saying that its going be a long day. Up at 6:00 to catch METRO at 7:00. Whirlwind touring till 4:30. Go back pick up the car. Go to game and get out at 10:30. Home by 11:30. Rinse. Repeat. Don't know if they have a three game stand. Heck of a pace. Don't know how many days I could do it. :) Sounds like a classic Walt Disney World schedule.. if you ask my wife and check her plans, at least! :D I think my schedule would be "Okay kids, be back here when you get tired. I will be waiting here." :B

RE: Outer Banks in Oct & Nov

I agree with Jerry & Jeanne, if you want to get away from the organized rat race, go to either Camp Hatteras or the Hatteras KOA. Very relaxing. Camp Hatteras is on either side of the highway. You can get water view sites on the Pamlico Sound side.

RE: Family activities near Assateague Island/Ocean City

P.S. Just because the horses seem tame doesn't mean that they are, as the rangers will advise when you enter the park. http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m274/CloudDriver/2013%20Trips/2013-05-10_222_zps35d7c2e7.jpg Don't try to touch them or hand feed them. THEY BITE AND KICK!

RE: Watkins Glen State Park NY

Whether you stay in the Park or not, make sure you hike the Gorge. Hint: catch the shuttle at the visitors center and let them ride you up to the top. Easy hike down http://i.imgur.com/JDUFLEBl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/0eXcbmal.jpg

RE: Is it okay to drop my tip out beds at rest stops or Walmart?

Do as you wish. Walmart doesn't care. The negative responses are from the Walmart Police. Just be sure you don't restrict access.

RE: Confused about bearings

For good information, I recommend Department of The Army Technical Manual 9-214, Inspection, Care, and Maintenance of Antifriction Bearings. The copy I have is dated November, 1959. It will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about bearings, and more. It is readily available online. Let me Google that fro you
