RE: New shore power cord plug

I bought some Camco plug ends to replace ends on an older 30amp cord I had bought at Walmart. I noticed that the prongs were shorter then the old plugs. When I measured using a Camco male with a Camco female the prongs only inserted approx 1/8 inch and the plugs got hot. I make a habit of never putting two Camco's together and it seems to work fine. I also use the same technique that SoundGuy uses to help keep the plugs dry after seeing one explode once! Fortunately it wasn't mine. :)

RE: Is this one of you guys?

Not another one! Approx 8 years ago I was backing my rig up with a boat behind (not at nite) when I read on RV.net that it was impossible so I just kept doing it. Never had it videoed to prove it because I wasn't knowledgable enough to know it couldn't be done until I learned it here. In my ignorance I thot it was easier then backing up a chopper and wagon with auto steer behind a tractor, especially when the chopper was swung off center to trail to the right of the tractor for chopping and on field surface, not blacktop. Never was great at this so I thot a fifth wheel and boat on hard surface was a piece of cake. Haven't done either now for 5 years so not sure I could still.

What is the truth?

I put my tailgate thru the front baggage compartment door. Good Sam insurance says the door is one price (below my deductible) but Camping World says it is three times more. Tomorrow I intend to find out who is right. Having dealt with insurance companies before I got a hunch but we will see. My Good Sam renewal is due in two weeks but I'm already getting notice of cancelation warnings like threats. Depends what happens tomorrow I may let the threat become reality as I change companies. Hopefully I will know in the next day or two.

RE: Is there really a 1/2 ton towable fifth wheel?

I will also state that a 1/2 tom pulling a 30'+ 5er as long as they have enough tire on them, is far safe and far more stable than that same 1/2 ton towing a 30'+ TT, far less tail wagging the dog. I worry more about those that feel they can carry/pull a 16,000#+ 5er with a 3/4 ton truck, paying no attention to tire capacity. Finally! One of the most honest posts I’ve seen on this topic in years! I would much rather see a half ton overloaded by 200 lbs pulling a 5th wheel which is inherently stable then the same truck pulling a long travel trailer which requires bandaids to make the numbers work out even if they can fool themselves into thinking they are 500lbs in the clear. RVer’s are about the only ones who think they can overload a truck by adding WDH and sway control. I have only seen one agricultural/construction trailer using such bandaids in 60 years of towing... mine until I got smart and figured out there was a good reason then I GAVE it way, free.

RE: Motorhome to 5th wheel

I guess I’m just ignorant. People complain about the steps in a 5th wheel but my friends’ motorhomes have more entry steps then my 5th inside and out. They have to climb the full flight every time going in and out while I only climb a partial when I go in and out and then complete the climb only if going to the bathroom or bedroom. Going in and out with an occasional climb to the bedroom/bathroom is considerably less then the whole flight by the end of the day.

RE: Any experience renting out your motorhome?

A friend rented their class C out last year, early summer. Got it back with everything above the roof and roof membrane replaced just in time for storage last fall.

RE: 2000' Onan 4000 Microquite generator replacement

I had a Honda engine carberated that unless the gas was turned off the carb would allow gas to flow into the engine while going down bumpy roads. New engine with <10 hours, missed so bad it would hardly run while smoking horribly. I drained the crankcase and put new oil in, replaced the spark plug and the problem was solved. Could this be a problem on an Onan too? Have you checked the oil level to see if it has risen?
