RE: Goodbye China Bombs, Hello Made In The USA

My Trailer King RST had two failures in the last week. The tires are just 3 years old. Properly inflated, watched the temps until the tire went.

RE: Dino juice v Electrons....

Turtle - They went 86 miles!
On Saturday, I went 240 miles without stopping (with my nearly 10k lb TT). I stopped and replaced my 240 miles of energy in less than 2 minutes (truck pump). I drove another 100 plus miles, stopped 40 minutes for lunch in the middle of Illinois corn fields, and drove another 180 miles. 520 miles in the day. Spent the night, and drove 347 miles, with a brief stop. All for $450. And never saw a charging station.
I did see my first Dollar General with a hitching post - and in use with horse and buggy.
I will keep my EV at home, and use my truck or van for trips to Iowa. My daughters used the van for the trip, and drove the 800+ miles straight through, with one fuel stop.

RE: GM 6.6 & 3:73

I had a 2020 6.6 gas reg cab dually. I towed 15k lbs (gooseneck with round hay bales) many times. It was in Michigan. No issues, and had experienced some uphills from a stop.

RE: F150 Lightning Road Trip & Ike Gauntlet Pull

I am guessing that "Does Not Meet Expectations of Current Vehicles" would be a better category.
Until there is acceptable charging speeds and a well maintained infrastructure of chargers, it will not meet the expectations of mainstream. Some claim that Tusk has mastered that, but I am hearing more concerns regarding delays in charging availability.
I believe that I saw it averaged 2 miles per kWh. My Bolt was down to 2.4 this winter, when it was cold and heat was needed. Since I need multiple vehicles, I am waiting on the EV Silverado (deposit was made day 1). Although the new Blazer EV that will be unveiled on July 18 looks fantastic.

RE: 2021 Chevrolet 3500 SRW LTZ Bed Rail Height

My TPMS for the trailer allowed my 2022 3500 LTZ to save me from any damage yesterday. I had a tire start to run hot, and then start losing air. The notification captured my wife's attention (if only I could do that) and was stopped on the side of the road while still 20lbs of air.
If your truck came with the sensors, I encourage you to have them installed.
I got the truck used and there are no sensors with it. It has the capability to use them. Do I get them from GM or can I use an aftermarket sensor?
I would look for someone who is selling them. They are expensive as accessories.

RE: Chevy 3.0 first tow.

Also it appears the 3.0 won't be available in GM '23 SUV's so another reduction in availability.
The order guide has the LM2 Duramax listed for the 23 SUVs. It is not the revised LZ0 that is going in the 1500 pickups.

Measuring at the center of the wheel to the bed (using level from the bed), it appears to be 57 7/8 inches.

RE: My new (rarely used as a) tow vehicle

I found the night vision on my Cadillac XT6 cool as well. Interesting to see the electric transformers that were hot, the basements of houses in the winter that were losing lots of heat, the glow of the hay wagon tires as you follow behind in the dark, and the occasional deer. Six months may be the current new standard. Daughters boy friends have been on contract electrical work at the plant.

RE: Travel Trailer Towing Recommendations

...
Recommending a van for these folks is like recommending a diesel dually. Kinda silly, in different ways...
Because we all know that a 3500 SRW standard box diesel would be acceptable. (Which I do have to park next to my Extended Express);)

RE: Travel Trailer Towing Recommendations

...5. A van is the best option for Hauling the booger eaters and still being able to tow albeit with an inferior drivetrain compared to about any other option. But sucks for everything else.
And who the F wants to drive a short bus around town and to the grocery store and park it in the winter because traction sux? Vans are for people with too many kids and/or not enough money...
I would not say that the Express has inferior drivetrain. The 6.6 or 6.0 gas engine with 6 sp transmission and 3.42 is not inferior. I personally appreciate the 3.42 for the balance of fuel economy and capability.
Driving it around town is not much different than an HD crew cab. Way easier to load things into, like the slushie machine we take camping (or deliver for party rentals). Easy to get PVC pipe or 12 ft boards. A couple bags of salt in the back, good snow rated tires, and no issues in the winter.
Of course, Grit will never see the advantages.

RE: Travel Trailer Towing Recommendations

Based on your descriptions, I second the one-ton Chevy Express as the dedicated tow vehicle. It would double as a grandkid bus. I have had an Express for the last 6 years. With the exception of not having 4wd, it makes a great tow vehicle, move to college, go on a brewery tour, and Saturday evening vehicle.
Fuel economy is not that bad in comparison to a 1500, and as good as a 3/4 or 1 ton pickup.

RE: newtruck brake control

I had a 2020 and a gooseneck with electric over hydraulic. It would not work. I could not install a P3 because of the factory controller. I had to buy an adapter for the trailer to make it work. I forgot what brand of brakes on the trailer. The adapter was around $100 on etrailer.

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

8.1 Van - instead of links to other stuff, could you please provide the link to order the semi. I only see the link to reserve the semi. Same link for past years, with a promise in the future.
As for the semi killing diesel sales, are you dream just like the CyberTruck has killed the sales of the F Series, Ram and Silverado/Sierra?
Statements and reservations do not displace sales.

RE: Tires for Travel Trailer in Port Huron Area

There are two Belle Tires, a Discount Tire, Sam's Club (not sure if they have trailer tires), Firestone. I have also used Van's Tire Center in Richmond Mi, and Leslie Tire that is in Mt. Clemens.

RE: Ford stops taking orders on the lightening

...How many on this 13 page thread actually own an EV? Looks like 2 with one of those being a hybrid.
I actually own a Diesel, ICE, and EV so that I could join any discussion with knowledge. My vehicles combined get close to 40k a year (down from peak years). I have them to serve a specific purpose. I do not have an ebike, as I need to haul more than myself most of the time.
I will continue to have a non-EV vehicle until the time comes that I can make my 754 mile trip to my daughters in less than 12 hours, since I can make that trip in 11 hours, 35 minutes.

RE: Ford stops taking orders on the lightening

Dadofourgirls,
Will you buy the Bolt after the lease is finished?
Too bad about the coal--but at least the emissions are far more processed than what comes out of a tail pipe.
At this time, I think I will be buying the Bolt. If used vehicle pricing stays strong, it will be a deal. I have a reservation on a Silverado EV, but I think my lease will end way before I can get it. My wife would much prefer the size of an Equinox, and the EV might not be soon enough either.
The Bolt is an efficient commuter, but I also pay 40% more on insurance for the Bolt than a Equinox.

RE: Ford stops taking orders on the lightening

I just paid an additional $140 fee for my Bolt in Michigan, but the lease ends in 8 months. Some may think that it is less than gas tax, and that will depend on usage. Since I am in my third year of a 36 month lease, and have 22k miles available, I might end up with less than gas tax.
As noted by valhalla360, my Bolt is used as a commuter car in a family fleet. At the time of the lease, it was the only vehicle that could be leased for under $200. The level 2 charger cost me $100 after utility rebate.
The freighters still bring coal to the powerplant, that generates my electricity.

RE: GM buying back 6.6L Duramax

Anyone know why GM is buying back late model 6.6L Duramax's ?
Yes.
But for you to know, you will need to apply for a job at GM and show up for work. :B
