RE: Mattresses

I'd just like to state the obvious: Factory RV mattresses are really, really, bad.
We just got a queen mattress to replace our Factory one. Until now, I was sore in my shoulders and back. The new mattress is thick and firm. The old one looks like an old gunny sack in a side by side comparison.

RE: Need an Education

Why do most of you feel the need to leave your vehicles running for long amounts of time before you pull out and long amounts of time when you pull into a campsite?
While I was pulling in and getting straight in the spot, a neighbor came over and said his wife wanted me to shut off my rig. I had not been there 10 minutes, and most of that was manuvering.

RE: Travel Trailers for large families

A van will not tow a large TT without burning up the transmission.
Bumping up the transmission... ???
What exactly does that mean?
"Burning" not "Bumping"

...will use coronavirus-sniffing dogs...
That offers a lot quicker diagnosis than the nasal test. If the dogs really can do it, why are people lined up in their cars for tests?

RE: Travel Trailers for large families

...we now have 6 kids and are looking to make camping a bit easier for us. We would like a travel trailer that sleeps at least 8...
It is going to be a challenge. With just myself and my girlfriend in our 27' TT, our stuff gets all over the place. Jackets, shoes, electronics, and other gear. I sincerely wish you the best of luck.

RE: living full time internet needs

A lot depends on how much data you consume. If your 8-hour-a-day experience is textual, you will be fine with a hotspot. If you experience lots of graphics or an interface like Citrix you will exceed your hotspot allotment quickly, unless you find a truly unlimited plan.

RE: Propane tank

A full tank lasts a good long time if you don't use the furnace (or generator, if you have a propane fueled generator), a number of weeks in my case.
Agreed - even in the BBQ case. I've had a 5 gallon tank last a whole season, and that included running the BBQ long after the food was cooked to burn off the mess. For sure, trailer usage is more demanding, but I still find propane capacity to last more than a week.
Where I've gotten into trouble is/was leaving the propane on during storage and underestimating the fridge usage while stored.

RE: Buying land for camping...

Honestly, pouring a relatively modest amount of money into your RV for increased battery capacity, inverter capacity, solar, and lots of fresh/waste water capacity is pretty attainable for most people, and then your options for boondocking are practically unlimited.
Agreed. After looking at parcels, this is pretty much what I came up with.

RE: Buying land for camping...

This was a dream of mine for years. I investigated several properties. I wanted mimmick my friend's set up on 40 acres nearby. Ultimately it turned out to be a trade off between the following: cost, location variety, effort to add amenities. At I've gotten older the effort to set up water, power, etc overcame my interest.

RE: Another Oldie Not Mine

They should have focused the attention on the interior.
That's what I was thinking until the inside photos started showing up.
I am not an expert on these trailers, but something looks wrong to me. Some dull exterior panels, some polished. The interior looks too good to be true.

RE: Perseid meteor shower

Hoping to see Perseids. We live north of San Francisco in a pretty dark location.
The best viewing is after midnight as the Earth is then facing into the path of the shower.
I am not sure why, but the Perseids tend to "fizz". By that I mean the tail of some of the shooting stars leave a trail that has a wider than normal path with a scattered pattern.

It doesn't take much to be smarter than the average dog.
In my sixty two years of experience the same can be said of the average human.
Agreed - I am 62 also. :B

RE: Checking on Wheel Bearing Heat

I was wondering how many of you check your hubs for overheating when you stop and get gas or pit stops.
Off and on I touch the tires and wheels. It would make sense for me to do that every stop.

Oh my goodness. I was asking if people AVOID treating the hot water heater.
To be honest, sorry I asked.
Hang in there. This forum can be difficult. Try to imagine responses being offered supportively, even though some of us can be cranky.
