RE: ez pass/toll pass placement on class A

They have this old school thing called a phone. Call your provider and have them set it up for you.
Thank you for your kind suggestion, but it was the weekend and since we've had wonderful support here on this forum from many very kind people eager to help, we thought we'd reach out. Your suggestion has been filed.

RE: ez pass/toll pass placement on class A

Next question - we're setting up the two transponders, but don't seem to be able to link them on one account? I'm guessing we need to just start over after we've set up the motorhome and do a separate account for the car? Every time we try to link them, it brings us to the page where you order another transponder. We don't need that. We bought two of them from Amazon.

RE: ez pass/toll pass placement on class A

cptqueeg, We're originally from MA where the tolls were throwing a quarter in the bucket to get across the NH border on 95 or the .10 tolls in NJ when we traveled down that way. (Not counting the Tapenzee Bridge or Newburgh, etc. It's been a while since we've been back in our motorhome and discovering that some (many?) toll booths require a pass and if we didn't have one there's no recourse. I can't imagine how many folks from out here in the west don't realize that.

RE: ez pass/toll pass placement on class A

cptqueeg, I hear what you're saying about inconsistent answers, but what I've garnered is that when folks ask about more than one transponder while using an RV they're often asking about towing a trailer or fifth wheel. She explained to me that if the vehicle is drivable, it needs its own transponder. I'd rather pay the (relatively) small cost of getting a second one to alleviate any anxiety. We ordered it today from Amazon.

We'll have to watch the billing for that issue, univmd. Thank you.

RE: ez pass/toll pass placement on class A

We just called Epass and got some answers. Since both vehicle (motorhome and tow vehicle) are "drivable", we need a transponder for both. We'll order the Uni through Amazon and continue to muddle our way through. :-)

EZ-Pass or E-Pass for traveling multiple states and then we get a Uni transponder? So confusing!

RE: ez pass/toll pass placement on class A

We're in a Class A, towing a car. Not a vehicle towing a trailer. This is all new to us. Since our motorhome plate is only in the rear and we're towing, how will the plate be read or does it matter with the Uni?

I'm looking for toll pass information, too. We're looking at the Uni and will be in our Class A towing our car. Do we need a separate unit for each vehicle?

RE: Best route from Palo Duro State Park Texas to Galveston

Well, darn! Looks like we'll be having to go through Austin as we booked overnights in Sweetwater and LaGrange.
Thank you all for helping us with traveling through an area we've not hit before.

Still hoping to get some expert help here on my questions about San Antonio/Austin and bypassing Houston on the way east to LA.
Thanks!

RE: Best route from Palo Duro State Park Texas to Galveston

One more question (for now.)
When we leave Galveston we are heading east towards LA. Our map program routes us up I45 to I10. Is there any reason why we wouldn't want to take TX 146 - again avoiding the heart of Houston?
We're originally from the Boston area, so we know that sometimes it's just as easy to go through the heart of the city on an interstate as to get bogged down in smaller cities/towns around the city. However, I did check it on Google Earth and it looks ok. ???

RE: Best route from Palo Duro State Park Texas to Galveston

We're just now getting back to our routing (nothing like some surgery to distract us.) I'm looking at BackOfThePack's route (avoiding Houston and the Dallas area), but am wondering why you suggest going through San Antonio rather than Austin?
Thanks!

Thank you so much, BackofthePack, I apologize for not responding sooner. Life has had some twists and turns, but we're holding our own and grateful we're not in the midst of any of the country's crazy weather.

RE: Best route from Palo Duro State Park Texas to Galveston

padredw, thank you again! I just sent you a PM to ask about the toll situation.
We've had the great fortune of traveling quite a bit around the country and have been through east Texas. The year we were headed to Big Bend after a month in Port Aransas, we had a $15,000 breakdown in our motorhome and so have never made it back to Big Bend. We've also not visited Austin, so there are lots more places to venture to. This trip is a large circuitous route around the country, so we'll have to focus more on Texas again at a later date.

Thank you, padredw, so much. That's a huge help.
I forgot to ask about Houston. Want to comment? :-)
Ken56, thank you, also. We'll do an overnight along the way. Recommendations? Thank you for the restaurant recommendation, too.

Best route from Palo Duro State Park Texas to Galveston

We'll be traveling through and visiting Palo Duro State Park in Texas before heading down to Galveston. We'd like to avoid the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Best routes?
Thanks.

RE: DMV issues

I understand mail forwarding services. I appreciate your response, but it is not our solution. From my original post: "We're giving up our SD residency since we bought property in AZ." We've had a mail forwarding service (and legal SD residency) for many years. We have now given it up and have established residency (DL and car registration in another state.) We're looking for the name of one of the counties in SD that will allow us to continue registering our motorhome in SD.

RE: DMV issues

I'm jumping on this with hopes that the negative comments can be put aside. We each have our own life situations and the support here is much appreciated.
We're giving up our SD residency since we bought property in AZ. We were told at the AZ DMV that we could continue to register (and insure, of course) our motorhome in SD. We can no longer register it in Minnehaha County, but were told by them that other counties will let us. We have the list of counties, but am wondering if anyone knows one (or more) counties that will accept our situation.
Thanks.
