RE: fore and aft movement

If you keep the Curt you can adjust your trailer brakes to brake a little ahead of the truck. This will keep the king pin in the back of the jaws. I have a Curt and that is what I did and it works for me but I don't think I had quite that much play in mine but I could feel it bumping when I stopped and started. That is what I did to eliminate most of the slack I have in a Reese hitch.

RE: Wheel bearing maintenance interval

I think the photo that 'bucky' presented show's and says what we all need to see on a newly acquired unit. I picked the unit in my sig up and with in 20 miles needed a fully out brake application to avoid a accident in front of me. The units braking action was more than adequate for normal driving, although didn't give me a lot of confidence moving forward. I decided to do a bearing and brake inspection before towing again. The bearings had been over packed with the zerks provided and had contaminated two of the four braking assemblies. Bearing were repacked and the contaminated brakes were replaced, braking during a road test was much better. Long story short, if I had not inspected the brakes and bearings I would have been relying on two brake sets to stop 9000+ pounds of fifth wheel.

RE: TSD Fuel Card

Sam's Club will give you a 5% discount on fuel using their credit card. That seems to be the best option at Pilot/FJ IMHO.

RE: TSD Fuel Card

Sam's Club will give you 5% on fuel purchases anywhere a MasterCard is accepted. That is one solution, the other is use Pilot/FJ as a last alternative.

RE: Found my replacement engine!

Looking at the brochure, you can replace the engine and transmission. Included in the package also is all the electronics to control the engine and transmission. The wallet would take a major hit, but still cheaper than a new vehicle. I prefer crate products as they should be ready to run. They also offer packages to replace without up-sizing your power plant.

RE: Furrion Camera System - backup camera

I strap the monitor to my rear view mirror so it's just natural to glance up and check behind me.... How do you strap it to the mirror? To the OP, I got our camera system off of Amazon. It was far cheaper than Furion, and I've been happy with it so far. X-2

RE: New truck batteries

The last go around on batteries I went with AGMs from AutoZone. The thing is a lot of my driving is short trip and they recover quickly. Time will tell.

RE: What temperature do you leave your home at

The four years I spent south I always set the thermostat at 60*, because of wanting good heat on the pluming. The most concern is in the case of severe weather, you need a friend or electronic device to be sure the heating system is functioning.

RE: RV Crushes Truck

Can we take a minute and talked about this "crushes the truck" comment?! I mean, it made impact.. but "CRUSHED IT"??? Gets more viewers, being dramatic.

RE: RV Crushes Truck

Look closely at the point he thinks he is hitched...he is slightly high hitched, no matter what hit little white indicator shows. He should also with that hitch, raise the font jacks about an 1/2 in, put the truck in drive and manually trip the trailer brakes and do a good test tug to insure the hitch is actually latched. After the tug test, finish raising the front jacks. Next is the break away cable is NEVER looped over the hitch latch handle. It is clipped to the bed of the truck. I hope he has learned a lesson. Ken CDL driving 'one o one', take a flashlight and visually check to see if the king pin is captured. Jaws or bar must be around or behind the pin. Last but not least -- read the instructions for the hitch your are using.

RE: Is 70 the age to stop towing

When my son hides my truck keys.... I'll ride my garden tractor to the store. My thoughts exactly, I'll be 80 my next birthday. Still pulling my 5th wheel.

RE: 2016 Highland Ridge LF319RLS

I requested a fantastic fan in the bedroom as I did on the Denali. Hopefully this will help regulate the temp. Thanks for the advice.

RE: 2016 Highland Ridge LF319RLS

The island on this one is moveable/on casters and can be moved at will as a work station. It is stored between the kitchen table and the recliner for transport. This model has two doorways into the bed room and the minimum space is a deterrent but not a deal braker. Thank you for your eval.

RE: Any of you guys winterizing with air only?

RV Antifreeze for me. It's on sale here for $2.50 a gallon right now. I know my pipes and fixtures will not break over winter and I also know it is designed not to make me sick next year. For the air compressor guys and gals, do yourself a favor and buy a 3 foot or longer piece of clear rubber tubing. Put it on the end of your airline and blow air through it for a few minutes. Now look at the inside of that tube. If you have an expensive compressor with filters on it you may still have a clear tube. For those like me that have the $100 harbor freight specials with no filters, you will likely see oil and or rusty water left behind. Not what I want to introduce to my water lines. That is why I use the pink stuff, my old compressor has always had dirty water in the air discharge.

2016 Highland Ridge LF319RLS

Looking to buy. The price is right and unit looks to be in new condition before PDI. Are there any thoughts about this unit, any quirks or should I run away?

RE: Is this forum dead?

I worked as a workamper for four years. Very enjoyable for me, you just need to know what is expected of you going in.

I am neither here or there, just in limbo over decision to spend next spring in South Texas.
