RE: Winnebago quality

First, Winnebago has been buying (Newmar & Grand Design), not being bought. We have had three Winnebagos and love them all. Their workmanship and quality was above most others!

RE: Ever hear of this camping company? Harvest Host

We love HH! We have met some of the nicest people, hosts and guests. Most times we spend more than a campground would charge but we come home with lovely wines and cheeses. At most HH you feel like a real guest rather then a paying customer. It's not for everyone.

RE: Non-level campsites Class A

It's best not to lift your wheels off the ground, especially the rears (drive). Use manual leveling and make small adjustments. It doesn't have to be perfect.

RE: Air compressors

a Viair will work for you I paid $160 on Amazon for the basic unit. Yesterday I raised the pressure from 120 to 130 in about 10 minutes. You can spend a lot more if you need all the bells and whistles!

RE: Sleepy Hollow, NY parkways?

As a former Parkway Police Officer, NO, for the trailer but the truck alone will be fine. Nobody's going to check your weight. PS there's a good chance the trailer would get stuck under a bridge.

RE: ladder extendable ???

The light weight Little Giant is a 7' step and a 17' extension ladder. It fits on its side in our bay. It's very sturdy for people like me, who don't like using ladders.

RE: Visit to New England

Just a quick answer, your camper is most likely not allowed on any parkway in NY but it's worth a call to the State Park to find out for sure.

RE: Tunnels, bridges & hair pin turns

A trucker's Atlas is something you should have for your travels.

RE: Which ~36' Class A can tow 15K Stacker

Most DPs without a tag axle are rated for 10K max. Many (not all) with the tag are rated for 15K or 20K with the 600HP engine. There might be an older Country Coach or Foretravel that might have a 15K rating.

RE: Gas Vs Diesel Yah-Yah-Yah!

The ride, handling, lack of engine noise etc. and we could afford it!

RE: Gas Vs Diesel Yah-Yah-Yah!

We have had two great gas coaches (Winnebago) and are on our second DP. The DPs cost much more to buy and maintain but they pay back in ride, handling, lack of engine noise and range. We have travelled over 200,000 miles in our RV. We like our current coach the best but the others were fine.

RE: West Yellowstone to Grand Tetons

There are curves and grades but the speed limit is 45 mph, so you are not going too fast anyway. The roads aren't interstate wide but they are fine. Pay attention and you will enjoy the ride.

RE: Ontario, OR across the State to Newport, OR

I've done that route many times with gassers and DPs without any problems. After Sisters it get very twisty but all you have to do is pay attention and use your gears on the down hills. I'm still waiting for Sasquatch to cross in front of us in that area!!!

RE: Brooksville, Fl. to Foxboro, MA

Pocono Downs Race track and Casino allow overnighting in their huge lot near Wilkes-Barre, PA just south of the intersection. Jonestown KOA is not bad near I/81 - I/78 intersection; they have a "country store" that will deliver your meals to the camper.

RE: Bugs on Windshield

When you're done for the day: a soft bristle brush and LOTS of plain water. Just do it as soon as you park.

RE: Route 209 PA thru Delaware Water gap

It's only commercial vehicles that are prohibited. All RV types are fine. We use it often and we weigh about 50,000, and are about 65' long.

RE: Toilet seal lube?

Years ago a parts guy at Camping World told me regular Vaseline was the best. It has worked well for me on a few occasions.

RE: Tire pressure and temperature recommendations

You need to know the weight...at each corner or at least each axle. Then you can check the tire manufacture's chart for those weights. If the tire pressures are right the temperature doesn't matter unless it changes drastically

RE: Mass Pike Boston to Venice FL

If the weather is threatening I get off I/84 at the first PA exit and take US 209 to I/80 to PA 33 to I/78 then to I/81 south (it's mostly flat). This eliminates PA mountains with fog and snow. Nice weather I/84 to I/81.
