RE: FYI For Those Who Cross Into Mexico @ Metamoros

The ones who did this were rounded up, hog tied and dropped off at the border by the cartel.
They made a public statement. "We don't mess with touristas"

RE: folding utility trailer

And worst of all is the maddening pain of trying to back up a short trailer. I have one for occasional use and curse it every time. I usually end up unhitching and backing it up my narrow driveway by hand.

RE: where to find replacement trailer furniture?

We bought a double recliner that came in three parts. One base and two backs. Not much help to you but they do exist.

RE: Can the grid keep up with EV use?

And what if every new home built had the equivalent of a power wall for storage with the roof covered in solar panels?
Of course the ev could be used as a power storage, too.
It's the future as envisioned by clear thinkers.
Once all your storage it toped up, excess electricity is passed on to the grid to a hydrogen producing plant that can later be used to power elec power plants. Round and round she goes.

As with all new technology the BOO BIRDS speak out.
Same was said about the first cars, airplanes, computers etc.
It has to start someplace, it will get better. Your grandchildren will wonder what the fuss was all about.

RE: ARE THERE ANY SNOWBIRDS ANYMORE?

My wife and I are getting ready to retire (about 5 more years) and looking at purchasing a condo in Mexico for spending our winter months and back in US for summer RV'ing.
Is there anyone doing this who could give some advice to help us prepare or have any advice before making this decision?
Thanks
No matter what, I would definitely rent for the first few winters.

RE: Tax refund scam Canada

I can vouch for the Paper Mail part.
Last spring Wife got a letter saying she owed an extra $800. Ha Ha she thinks, it's a scam. She dug up the proper phone number and called.
Ouch, not a scam.

RE: 1st night camping in our yard, 2023.01.24

We did much the same but at a campground 30 min away, worked out the minor kinks.
Next lesson for me was assessing if it was a dead end before goin any further. Could I get out of a tight gas station, restaurant etc.
After our first Snowbird winter we took out two large Rubbermaid tubs full of stuff we never touched.

RE: Bill giving residents priority at booking FL state parks

That's a straw argument - I'm pretty sure the Florida residents spend as much money in florida as the snowbirds by about 5 times over.
You never get ahead with that, all you're doing is passing that dollar round and round to the same people. You need a steady influx of new money to make a real profit. So no money ever crosses state lines except from tourists. Well there’s a concept Ford, Walmart and every other business in the world might dispute.
GOOGLE
How much of Florida's economy is tourism?
In 2019, Florida visitors contributed $96.5 billion to Florida's economy and supported over 1.6 million Florida jobs. According to the Office of Economic and Demographic Research, for every $1 the state invests in VISIT FLORIDA, $3.27 in state tax revenue is generated.

RE: Winterizing & Summerizing for Snowbirds

My cottage sits on 12 concrete pilings that go down to bedrock 6 ft bellow grade.
When its -30 outside its also -30 inside. Everything is frozen solid and takes a full day to thaw out. It's one of the reasons why we don't go up in winter. The quickest way to heat it up is put the kettle on and let it steam away to moisten up the air. When we go home we leave the doors open while we pack up to let all the moist air out.
We retired 18 yrs ago and spend the summer there, 4-6 months so we don't miss it in winter.

RE: Winterizing & Summerizing for Snowbirds

Ive been told the frost heave could damage the foundation of a home if you turn your heat off.
Never heard of that before, ever.
I have a cottage that we don't use in Winter anymore. We shut down at the end of October and go back early April.
It has no heat all winter, never had a problem, it gets to -30C more often than not. It's been 35 yrs now.
