RE: Bill giving residents priority at booking FL state parks

That's a straw argument - I'm pretty sure the Florida residents spend as much money in florida as the snowbirds by about 5 times over.
You never get ahead with that, all you're doing is passing that dollar round and round to the same people. You need a steady influx of new money to make a real profit.

RE: Winterizing & Summerizing for Snowbirds

My cottage sits on 12 concrete pilings that go down to bedrock 6 ft bellow grade.
When its -30 outside its also -30 inside. Everything is frozen solid and takes a full day to thaw out. It's one of the reasons why we don't go up in winter. The quickest way to heat it up is put the kettle on and let it steam away to moisten up the air. When we go home we leave the doors open while we pack up to let all the moist air out.
We retired 18 yrs ago and spend the summer there, 4-6 months so we don't miss it in winter.

RE: Winterizing & Summerizing for Snowbirds

Ive been told the frost heave could damage the foundation of a home if you turn your heat off.
Never heard of that before, ever.
I have a cottage that we don't use in Winter anymore. We shut down at the end of October and go back early April.
It has no heat all winter, never had a problem, it gets to -30C more often than not. It's been 35 yrs now.

RE: California Redwoods Campground

With all the crazy weather California is having, I would have a backup plan B.

RE: Health rant

We both retired 20 yrs ago.
We go for a long walk every day no matter the weather. We walk a minimum of 5000 steps (fitbit) It works out to approx 4K.
It keeps the muscle healthy the joints lubricated and helps clear the cobwebs.
Nothing more nothing less.
If I'm off it for a few days I notice my hip and knee start to nag at me.
If all you can manage is a walk around the block, it's a start.

RE: Beat Canadian road atlas

I haven't used a paper atlas in years but when I did I always preferred the Michelin North America one.
Never did see one dedicated to Canada only

RE: its about time

My sympathies to all of you.
We gave up with all these shenanigans in 1986 and bought a small cottage on a quiet lake. Never looked back.
Bought a trailer for Snowbirding when we retired and lasted seven years. Eventually gave up and winterized the cottage to extend the season, good enough for us.

RE: Europe Electrical Adapter

Leave all that stuff at home except for the phones.
Europe runs on 220v
The phone charger runs on both 110 & 220 all you need is an adapter for the plug.
Any store that sells suitcases and travel gear will have what you need.

RE: I am curious !

I'd be more worried about damaged parks not being able to re-open due to high cost of insurance and stricter building codes etc.
Not to mention condo developers swooping in.

RE: This net is dying!

Thanks Barney. But, I'm still stuck. I've failed to learn how to move my photo from my iphone into my computer. Back to basics. I'll find a local to teach me that, and get back to you.
All you have to do is use your charging cable to link your phone to your computer.
Your phone will show up as a drive with a few folders in it. Your photos are in there.

RE: Canadian Propane Tank Recertification in Washington

When I refiled this summer the lady told me the tank would expire next year. For an extra $7 I should simply do a tank exchange. I did. I don't have to exchange it every time I go in, just get it refilled like normal.
OOPS...
On re-reading this post I see you're talking 30#

I never wait till I "need" gas.
If I see a great gas stop I use it if I'm anywhere near the half full mark.
