RE: Florida State Park Reservation window changes

Snowbirds will still be able to camp in state parks if they wish, they just won't be able to lock up sites for 14 days than move to another state park for another 14 days and repeat throughout the season. I've lived in Florida for 60 years and have never been able to camp at bahia Honda. I also don't believe it will have a large impact on tourist visiting Florida. It may help inland parks stay full as the popular keys and coastal parks will still be near capacity....

RE: Florida State Park Reservation window changes

I'll take what I can get but wish they would address the cancelation policy which would stop most of the abuse... Increase the cost to cancel to fifty percent of the reservation fee and require the whole reservation to be canceled....

RE: Truck tires

I'll give serious thought to increasing the size to a 235. I did that once but was concerned it lessen the space between the duals, and I believe the small space now is causing excessive heat. Also wonder about clearance issues on the front..... Thanks

RE: Truck tires

The truck is a 2003 3500 ext cab two wheel drive diesel dually. Running stock size tires 215/85R16. I only had one front tire seperate, that was a BFG.rest have been on the rear. I thought about going to a large tire, but was afraid it would make the rear space even closer. Since three of the four rear are new replacement Goodyear and the other has 15k I'm just staying with them for now. As far as posting photos may be easy for some. Just like rebuild a Pontiac engine is easy for me...

RE: Truck tires

Guess l was hoping to get a consensus on the best available tires to use on a dulley carrying a 5000 lb TC. I'll probably look into the Toyo brand for my next set. I believe heat could be causing most of my separation issues as in summer months as read on my TST monitor I can see Temps reaching 110 degrees with pressure rising at least 10 to 12 percent. A few months back I opened the trunk of a car I own to find a BFG TA exploded Tire was 6 years old with very few miles used as spare, also vehicle is always garaged. I tried to post a photo, but couldn't. I'd be happy to email or text the photo to anyone to post. Just private message me..... So its my opinion most if not all tires are not made well these days. Just read trailer or class A form...

RE: Truck tires

Thanks for the replies. Since they prorated three of the four Goodyear tires on the rear. and the other has 15k miles I plan to run them for awhile. I'm aware Westlake tires aren't supposed to be a top tier tire, but so far they have out perform supposedly better brand tires. The rims and size are stock and I have around an inch between the duals when loaded. Temperature and psi is monitored with a TST system. The BFG separated on the front first, then two later on the rear. The wranglers were only on the rear, since the front were nearly new..... Buzzcut1 I thought about a spacer between the rears. Could your provide the type your using?? Thanks to all and anymore thoughts appreciated.

Truck tires

I've had very bad luck with tires on my dually due to separation issues. I'm only getting 15k to 20k before this happens and 3.5 to 4 years. I only have the camper on the truck about 3500 miles a year, and the truck is always in the garage if the camper is off which is most of the time. The camper is a 2000 alpenlite 1150 limited, and weight is around 4800 lbs ready to travel. Sticker on the camper states 3600 lbs. I've owned this camper since 2004 and had the rig on the scales back then. I remembered I was under the capacity then however I'm unable to locate the form now. I plan to have it on the scales on my next trip, but thats not till august. The tires have all been E rated and are run at the 80 psi cold while carrying the camper monitored with a TSP system. The first set were BFG commercial. The second goodyear wrangler. I have a lesser name brand on the front WEstlake that are 5 years old and appear to be wearing well, they were the only one available at the time I had a failure while traveling. Wondering if others have had issue and what brand seems to be working for others.......Thanks

RE: Flying J/Pilot oil

Once pilot bought flying J they stopped catering to RV'ers. The place is nowhere near as clean, and there prices went up considerably. Its a private business so they can operate it as they see fit. Just as we can choose to go elsewhere.

RE: Is this the biggest/heaviest TC on the market?

If it had a welded aluminum frame maybe. My alpenlite is 23 years old and going strong and I'LL its aluminum frame is a big part of that. The weak part is the rear wings, which i rebuilt with PT wood no issues since. Not sure the cost of a 5500 truck but 200k total wood be my guess.

RE: Bill giving residents priority at booking FL state parks

I guess i'm not following the thought that on how all weekdays would be open while weekends are booked. You cannot book a weekend without booking the prior open days.If the thought is that you book all days than cancel the prior day to the weekend than like i stated one way to stop that is to require the whole reservation to be cancelled along with a 50% charge.

RE: Bill giving residents priority at booking FL state parks

I don't believe the bill is intended to lock out snowbirders just to improve the chances of folks who live in the state, and not have most sites locked out for 14 days.I stated in an earlier post that i didn't believe a month was needed or fair. I was told the reservation fee goes to the state as they now operate the resevation system so thats why even walkin are charged. Even though florida has no state income tax, property taxes are high. I think states have different ways to fund services as it should be.Also i've been told Georgia residents get a brake on property taxes after a certain age. Bottom line money has to come from somewhere if you want the services.

RE: Bill giving residents priority at booking FL state parks

I posted a few days ago with the comment that one hour should be long enough to allow florida residents time to book early. Some others stated it wouldn't make things easier for florida residents I disagree as you wouldn't be competing with the whole world. One other way would be to limit stays to 7 days. When I try to book during snowbird season most sites are book for the limit 14 days that tells me its most likely a snowbirder. I also standby my statement that the whole stay must be cancelled as well as a 50% fee. I also disagree that it would have much effect on folks seeking a warmer climate.

RE: Bill giving residents priority at booking FL state parks

I don't think it needs to be a month one hour would be enough. The popular parks/sites are gone within seconds. As far as only taking weekends that can't happen unless the site comes open then. I also think it should cost more to cancel sites at least 50 percent and require the hole reservation to be cancelled.
