RE: Mystery Battery Draw While Parked UPDATE

Check the body of the alternator for voltage, or remove the hot wire to it. I had one that was bleeding voltage from the connecter post to the body. OP already has an issue in this area likely, so great suggestion. Was suggested, but not responded to or even acknowledged. But sounds like his attention span is as short as his will to fix this problem. Been more time spent on this thread trying to help him diagnose it than he’s spent trying to fix it. And apparently he’s thrown in the towel after 1 attempt.

RE: Power issues 2018 AmericanCoach MidwestPatriot

If I’m not being too forward, I bet your husband could change the battery. Worst case it would take 2 people due to the weight. Mighty Max sealed lead acid, (SLA) is $500 and free shipping on Amazon. Would work as they don’t need water added I bought a pair of them 6v for our old camper. They appeared to be quality. I can’t imagine it’s difficult to reprogram the charging voltage. Sorry to hear, but Good luck with the sale!

RE: Ford V10 - 5 Star Tuning

Seems like 5 star is one of the more popular tuning options. I can't take any personal experience with 5star or a "tuned" newer V10 vs stock. But in general, the couple tuners for n/a gasser trucks I bought/used many moons ago did very little for performance gains. And that is still the case. you're not going to get hardly any more power out of the same engine. Trans tuning? Idk what could be better. Ford 5 and 6 speed auto transmissions have been pretty spot on for as long as they've been in existence. Personal opinion, I wouldn't bother.

RE: Converting Onan generator from gas to propane

I am considering the purchase of a Class A with a gasoline-fueled Onan generator and have heard a lot of horror stories about problems with such generators. Here's a funny story to counter your internet wisdom about the horror stories of gas powered Onans. Camper in sig, bought last year. Orig owner literally used it like once or twice the first year and it sat since 2017/2018 unused. Had it advertised as a propane generator. As I really didn't want LP gen and also didn't believe him, I asked multiple times. (Camper is 300 mi away at this point, can't just run over and check it out) Answer was the same. "I've started the generator several times, and have to turn on the LP, light the stove and only then will the generator start!" (Some of you will be really laughing by now...) Regardless, I head out to inspect and buy it. He goes through the whole deal lighting the stove to fire up the genny. Turns out he had NEVER added gas to the gas tank. There was apparently just enough gas still left to run the generator (from the selling dealer when new??) as it read empty and the fuel station pump only pumped air. Bottom line, that generator actually fired up and ran somewhat acceptably on what had to be 4 year old gasoline! Not recommended, but....it runs much better on gasoline purchased in this decade!

RE: The world of tow vehicles would be a better place if

I agree with this too. The whole reason I bought a F350 is because there was really no difference in price from the F250 and I got increased payload. Had me questioning why the F250 exists - or to this point, call it a 250 and make the 350/3500 Duals. I assume the only real benefit is registration and taxes for a 250 vs 350 in certain states. It's a game. This has been said many times, and those who aren't involved with commercial use of light duty trucks probably don't understand, but IMO, the biggest "reason" 3/4 tons with a 10kgvw exist is for commercial users who need a "real" pickup truck without all the additional requirements for commercial vehicles. Now that Ford and GM have exceeded the 10k gvw mark with their 3/4 tons, it could be a field day for enforcement as I'm sure not all commercial owners can or will get trucks with a special "10000gvw" package. This is a huge deal. I get employees pulled over occasionally by local and state patrol simply to check DOT compliance if they're in a 1 ton or larger. And maintaining driver files for all involved, especially in construction with a very transient work force is an effort in futility and virtually impossible. The traditional "3/4 ton" truck eliminates a great deal of those concerns.

RE: Power issues 2018 AmericanCoach MidwestPatriot

Your problem is and continues to be----You have a bad battery, I truly believe that concept is lost on the OP, or she feels if she asks the question enough times that the answer may somehow change.

RE: Source for magnetic dipstick for Champion C46540 3500W gen?

Doesn't answer your question directly, but you can magnetize your dipstick (for whatever reason you feel that is necessary) with a length of wire and a car battery. I'm not positive but I believe the stock dipstick is plastic, so.... Back to the OP's question: Just google it. As long as the threads match and it's the same length as the stock dipstick, it should work. Ha, good point. And probably only a couple inches long to boot.

RE: Will my WFCO 55 amp over charge?

And I haven't really pulled it apart and looked at what it would take to replace. I know it's not just a standalone unit like in our old campers. I replaced just the convertor charger unit. Drop in repleacement Good to know, thanks

RE: 1994 Holiday Rambler Endeavor 30CB

anyone have any thought on older Class A. I just sold my travel trailer and would like a Class A or Class c. Just not sure about the expenses of one over the other etc. Gas mileage etc. This would be first time motorhome or should I stick with trailer. Just want to be able to pull in like Walmart, Sams Club etc and spend the night. If your budget is in the antique range, how is your mechanical aptitude or repair budget. Would you buy a 30 year old car and have the knowledge , ability and willingness to fix everything that goes wrong with it? Don’t ask about mileage….lol.

RE: Power issues 2018 AmericanCoach MidwestPatriot

Since you're selling it, now, it is of little consequence, but to clarify, the inverter produces AC power in lieu of the other AC sources (genny or shore power). Your rig is not or should not pull AC power through the inverter as a higher priority over the other 2 sources. Also, no way I would buy the most expensive battery just to put a 4 sale sign in the window. My 2c

RE: Chevy/GMC 1500 Recall

Pretty sorry, when even the "GM Authority" doesn't understand the issue or mis-represents it. What they should have said is that the spare tire is a smaller diameter than the other tires. Virtually, mutually exclusive of rim size as long as the rim fits on the truck, which it does, because some models still come with 17s. I bet the trucks with 20s and 22s don't have 20 and 22" rim size spares...

RE: Trailer connect

Not sure if it will help you or not but I have a 2016 Chev truck and had a 2003 Northern Lite TC. When I connected the cord after a few brakes the TC would burn out the light fuse. After many checks I finally called Northern Lite and they said to disconnect the rear brake light above my TC because of the age difference. I tried it and it worked. So, your problem "may" be connected (see what I did there) to the age difference of your rigs. Good luck Please expound on this. You run your TC with no brake lights? Since the OP flaked after one post we can discuss your issue instead.

RE: Power issues 2018 AmericanCoach MidwestPatriot

Well I certainly respect Mr Rainers knowledge. So I am interested what would require a special charging voltage or profile for a lifeline vs any other agm battery. Or even a FLA battery I’d think is just a different setting with a slightly different charging voltage.

RE: Price breaks on new Pickups?!

^ Nothing changes. People are always enamored with what "program" price or "incentive" is available and get suckered into thinking they're getting a deal because of the "President's day, blue truck, trade in your old vacuum cleaner, AND get a free Little Ceasers pizza" incentive... When realistically they can call it whatever they want and it's only what you walk away out the door with that matters. Or in other words, advertising works better on gullible people. wait.......... I can get a pizza too ?? :C Only on April 1!

It's just a standard 8D battery, correct? You can buy 8D batteries anywhere that sells or services large equipment. Or any number of sources online. Doesn't have to be a Lifeline unless you're insistent on buying the most expensive battery you can, which it appears you're hesitant to spend the money, so spend less.
