RE: Help with towing math and trailer /vehicle specs

Sounds like the 6 speed behind the 5.3 is a vast improvement over the 4 speed. I had a 2007 1500 Silverado with the 5.3, 4 speed and 3.42 gear and thought it was a gutless truck in the rolling hills of Missouri. Out trailer at the time was Jayco 26BH, around 5,600 lbs loaded.

RE: Looking For Campground Near Wallace Idaho

AllStays Idaho CG map Doesn't look like there are many CGs within 25 miles. The ones I found (farthest to closest) is Crystal Gold Mine RV park in Kellogg, Blue Anchor RV park in Osburn and Wallace RV Park in Wallace.

RE: The TFL guys bought a 7.3L

They teased about a comparison test between a SuperDuty 6.7L diesel and a 7.3L gasser a couple of weeks ago. Still waiting ! Don't they do some of those tests at higher elevations? Maybe snow is impacting those tests areas.

RE: Pickup driver caught after cops find him hauling 53? trailer

Wow..just wow. Why would you go thru the trouble of rigging an air tank and that "hitch" when you could have hired someone to move the trailer? I bet the fines are more than paying a legit OTR owner/operator.

RE: The smell of a dead mouse..

If there was one mouse inside, there are probably more. I worked briefly for a pest control company. The strategy in mouse control in a stick and brick house is to identify and seal points of entry, place baited traps inside to cull the remaining mice in the house then place rodentcide in pet/child-safe bait stations outside. We used copper mesh and a brick mortar repair compound to seal holes you could stick your finger thru. Larger holes were sealed with galvanized flashing. I'll add from my own experience that despite removing all food from my TT, I had mice in the camper more than once. It's not only food they are after, it's shelter.

RE: Fuel problems

GM built it but when was the last time one of their service technicians have seen a carburetor? Sometimes it pays to seek older mechanics with experience.

RE: Why was the Mexico beach thread moved: Resurrected

This one? Looks like it's now in both the general and Mexico forum categories... https://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/30011553/gotomsg/30011589.cfm#30011589

RE: Ford pickup recall

The wording of this is confusing. Not all of those Super Dutys from 2017 have an electric "release". My tailgate has an electric lock but if it's unlocked, the tailgate doesn't open...mine still has to be opened and lowered manually.

RE: What is this make?

The wheel well opening does't look like the teardrop opening Scotty used many years. Maybe a Forester or Pathfinder?

RE: 4-Corners

Looks like it's just $3 a person now. I assume this is on Navajo reservation. https://www.newmexico.org/listing/four-corners-monument/1786/

RE: Buying a used diesel

We put $3200 into a work 2008 F-550 (6.4) last year that had 75k miles on it. The high pressure fuel pump went out. The cab has to be removed (yes, you can also take apart most of the front clip) but the time in labor on these is expensive.

RE: Wrong Equipment?

Maybe he’s from the Carolinas, some of them like that look even without a trailer. I thought the same thing. Probably on air bags. I had an S-10 with hydraulics that would do that front and back.

where's the anti-weight police crowd?:R None needed. That's true Darwinism at work there. The problem will rectify itself.

RE: Anybody else have trouble packing for camping

Yes, I tend to get stressed before a trip. Best thing I have found is to start getting prepared a week before. Make a list and keep it where you and your spouse can see and add to it. We stage clothing, bedding, supplies and non-perishable items the night before we pack and check off the list as we go. It gets easier with time but I still get stressed if I'm the only one packing everything and when its the first trip of the season.

It’s been broken for months. No, the message doesn’t go thru. There’s a work around in one of the threads here.

RE: Current crop of SUV'S

I doubt there is any agreement on what defines an SUV. GM still makes truck framed SUV (Tahoe, Blazer, Suburban) and they have their niche. I think many that had one (including me) got away from them because of their lumbering ride, poor fuel mileage and high step in....all traits we over look if we wanted to tow something with those SUVs. The majority of the SUV buyers doesn't want that. They want a smooth ride with descent fuel economy they can haul the family around in. I don't believe marketing is responsible for the decline of the full-framed SUV, it's consumer demand. Personally, I'd rather have a truck bed than the 3rd row of seating when it comes to a TV. Huntindog, yes VW, Volvo, BMW, Porche, Buick and Subaru make station wagons thought I use that term loosely.
