RE: Traveling on I-70 West to Monument Valley to Zion

160 from South Fork to Pagosa Springs goes over Wolfe Creek Pass...11,000’. East to west is a little easier as you have a 10 mile 6% downhill, only 8 miles up. A more southerly route would be much easier.

RE: Onan Generator Cranking Amps

The common cable is the negative that goes to a shunt and then to ground. Once I got started I just tighten any connection I could find.

RE: Onan Generator Cranking Amps

This is a common problem on Monaco/HRs, especially in the morning after having to run the heat all night and the house batteries are down around 12.0V. My SWAG on amps is after the initial surge it’s less than 300A BUT in decreasing my voltage drop between the inverter and the batteries I solved my generator cranking problem.

RE: Weight Distribution Hitch Concerns?

Are you afraid to put 500lbs in the back of your F150 ??? You do NOT need WDH.

RE: Dometic Penguin 2 - compressor on, fan on, not cooling

I would try replacing the run capacitor.

RE: Onan Generator Cranking Amps

I had similar issues and was considering adding a diode and another battery...bear with me as the size of the cables is not the problem. Check the voltage at your batteries compare to the reading on your inverter while running the microwave...takes 2 people. I had a little over 1.1V difference so cleaned and tighten all the connections I could find including those in the back run box....just tighten them. On your negative house battery cable you have the shunt that measure your amps and cleaning them did the most good. I now have 0.4V difference which was my goal and as a side benefit my 10K will start without using the boost or cranking the engine.

RE: tires

-1 for Michelin...overpriced and no where near the good tire they used to be. Hankook, Toyo, Yokohama (in alphabetic order) are all good options.

RE: Looking for Fridge Suggestions

I would invest in a 1000w PSW inverter to power it if you dry camp often. Otherwise I would not worry about doing anything different.

RE: Florida turnpike or I-95??

When built in 1957 the turnpike would be free in 15 years. Granted originally it only went to FtPierce. 5 years ago they added 2 lanes to 95 each direction in Palm Beach county (5 lanes instead of 2 on the Tpike) so I recommend staying on 95 until I-75 in Ft Laud and then get on it saving $$. Northbound my personal boycott is to use 95 to Vero and then 60 to YeeHaul but instead of getting on there I use 441 and finally get on in Kissimmee.

RE: Tow dolly empty - 1500 miles

If it can’t take bouncing down the road empty, I would not put a car in it.

RE: Heading to the Rockies for 5 or 6 weeks.

After the Tetons I’d head to CO instead of UT to give UT more time to cool off.

RE: 2006 Excursion

Does your display light up? If not then the black recall box has turned the power off. A strong magnet rubbed across the top of it may reset it.

RE: Safet T Steer or Roadmaster Stabilizer

Until I could make my SafeT+ adjustable I disconnected it. Here is my post and conclusion after 3000 miles with it adjustable: http://www.irv2.com/forums/f258/making-a-safe-t-plus-adjustable-451209.html Clicky

RE: Tires

JS that works out to 200+ miles/day over 2 years. You may be the first RVer (are you RVing?) to wear out a set of Michelin tires.

RE: Steering Wheel cocked. I fixed it!!

“ Are you sure you did not change the toe-in?” Changing the length of the drag link does not change the toe in...it moves the left tire. You change the length of the tie rod (ties the two tires together) to adjust the toe in.

RE: Steering Wheel cocked. I fixed it!!

Guess you should have searched a little more as all that’s necessary to center is to remove the steering wheel shaft from the U joint at the base of the steering column (inside the MH)...takes all of 6-8 minutes. It’s a 10mm bolt holding the shaft in.

RE: Pros and Cons of owning a class A RV

For a 5 month snowbirding trip to Fla it’s hard to justify a Class A (the nicest and most expensive way to travel). BUT a 20 year old trailer is often junk with multiple water leaks while a mid to upper level DP will usually be in better shape...not true of most gassers where the house is more like a trailer.

RE: Tires

Just replaced all ten of my tires, Michelin 11R 24.5 eight XDN2 drives and two X LINE ENERGY steers load range H You must put s lot of miles on a 2017 rig to need new tires in 2019.
