RE: Motorhome to 5th wheel

We went from a Country Coach to a fiver a couple years ago, reluctantly I must admit, as we loved most things about the coach except the chain of events starting with hitting a deer and ending with paying thousands for non deer related events. When calculating upcoming repairs and maintenance needs, even though I could handle most events, we surrendered and took a loss. Life in our fiver is good, but my wife won't even drive the "huge" truck necessary to keep us secure on the road. I toy with the idea of going back but we're happy enough with our current arrangement I guess. We're five months in one location for the winter and driving the truck is always fun.... this ole farm boy has driven his share of rigs, but in traffic and parking lots... well, modern drivers aren't all that compassionate ... My 2 cents.

RE: Furnace Noise

OH I understand the ramifications of having an open gas heater inside... with no vent either so air exchange becomes an issue... many can be hard plumbed if tolerances permit... I'm still really on the fence with them, though I do have one in my home as a backup in case of a power outage in winter.

RE: Furnace Noise

Cleaning and adjusting makes sense... this spring or when the WX warms enough so I don't have to run the bugger every night.

RE: Furnace Noise

That Olympian Wave 6 looks pretty interesting... wonder how close to flammable materials It can be mounted? Worth another look I guess.

RE: Furnace Noise

We too are big fans of portable heaters and have used them a lot, but... since we're here in AZ Valley and are paying electric... we get buy with more propane and less electricity... but when on the road... it's Katie Bar the Door. Thx

RE: Furnace Noise

Thx ... I know the market is coming out with a Aqua Hot type prototype but think it's only sold to manufacturers and installed by them... I know they're quiet as we've had that before in a MH. I'm with you in that we'll just have to live with it.

Furnace Noise

Anyone have any fool proof way to limit the noise I get from my furnace? Our friends furnace runs in their 5th wheel and is very quiet; ours sounds like a blast furnace. It's located under the stairs but not buried too far toward the front Any suggestions appreciated.

RE: Quartzsite --- Best day to visit Big Tent

We've been there a couple times and understand the (business)... chaos, but think it was mid-week last year... think I'm shooting for Sunday or Monday... I believe Monday would be best for us, but we have to be in Sedona on Tuesday and I'm not usually a distance marathoner. Ahhhhhhhhh the trials of over commitment .

Quartzsite --- Best day to visit Big Tent

Only open days I have is Sat (19) Sun (20th) or Mon 21st Any recommendations as the best day to visit Quartszite this month? Just a day trip from Phoenix area

RE: Propane tank switch over

Yup, the passenger side has the Red Top Regulator... perhaps that's the problem. Thx for the info.

Propane tank switch over

So, on the drivers side tank everything works. When I turn the switch/lever for the passenger side tank, everything but the FURNACE works. Does it take more propane to run the furnace than the hot water heater? Could it be my valve... it does show green when there is fuel in either tank. I'm stumped. So far I literally have to grab the tanks and make the switch...

RE: safe/temp portable sat mount on roof ideas

So, I have it mounted on one of the slides, strapped so it won't move... but I think I need just a little more height so I'm going to use a couple boards, strapped down to the center air, then plant the dome on that and screw it down to the boards so it can't blow off... it'll take a couple days.

RE: safe/temp portable sat mount on roof ideas

Off to Lowes sometime today. We'll see how it goes. Thx for advise.

RE: safe/temp portable sat mount on roof ideas

So, tried it on one of the slides... works great but with the eastern arc, we're in Surprise, west of Phoenix... so tomorrow going to the air conditioner... one roof line is giving me fits. I wonder how low the western arc is.

RE: safe/temp portable sat mount on roof ideas

Thx. I think the air conditioner thing might work, but that danged Pathfinder X2 likes to check itself once in a while... at least that's what it did sitting at home, and I can imagine sound traveling at 0400.... I have roofs over buildings at about 14' or so blocking my southern exposure... might have one slim shot at directly south... might give that a shot first. Thx for advice. I'm thinking a couple of plastic strips, close to the ladder so I can tie it down there as well.

safe/temp portable sat mount on roof ideas

The area we're headed has lots of obstructions so I'll have to get my Pathfinder X2 up high. Our roof is not fiberglass, and is rounded. Any good ideas on how to put the dish up there for 5 months without the weather taking it off, or running the roof material?

RE: Bike racks in the rear

Our rack isn't the greatest and my darn hitch is a 1" receiver... who ever thought of that... anyway, by placing straps on both sides going up to a solid part of the ladder it has done a great job for probably 7,000 miles. Our ladder is in the middle so that really stabilizes the whole arrangement.

RE: Near Rolla, MO early Nov

Thanks for all the suggestions. Think something S of St. James might do. We stayed at a small no frills park a couple years ago while visiting my old Air Force buddy. He's since died so plan on visiting his wife and kids. Meramac Springs closes before early Nov as do many other parks.

Near Rolla, MO early Nov

Looking for suggestions on a one to two night stay near Rolla, MO first week in Nov. I know many parks close by Nov. 1st. Any place with few or no trees to bang into my 13.6' high x 38' long fiver?

RE: Finally joined the Apple bandwagon!

One caveat with the MacBook Pro... the keyboards... space bar sticks, other keys stick and are impossible to either un-stick or work at all. My 2004 MB Pro had a perfect keyboard that still works to this day... my 2016 MB Pro just had the keyboard changed... for free, though they won't claim it as a recall... and they'll only replace the keyboard one time... fat chance of this one lasting as long as my old one which still works. I'd still use the old one but my bank and credit union and other businesses won't talk to it anymore, and it won't update to the new stuff...
