RE: Border News

US border to Canada and Mexico will remain closed gor another month. Regarding the Mexico border, do you mean driving across? We heard this all last year yet crossed back and forth at both Nogales and Laredo with no issues. Just crossed at Nogales last month. Where or in what way is it closed?

RE: Two Medical Crises their Resolution and Costs

Actually Sharp was the hospital we took my brother too. $500 seemed amazingly cheap to us for an overnight ER stay and various tests. Also, regarding the comment about Canadien health care costs, it may be inexpensive, but all I ever hear from Canadien friends down here are complaints about the wait times for receiving treatment through the public health option. Seems a downside not often reported. Some report waiting 6-9 months or more for procedures like hip replacements and the like. They are now exploring their options here even if they have to pay out of pocket as they want to get things done sooner.

RE: Two Medical Crises their Resolution and Costs

Had a similar experience earlier in the year in Mazatlan. Had to put my brother in the ER there. It was a late Friday night and he was the only patient there. They did CT scans, x-rays, various doctors involved, he ended up spending the night. When we picked him up the next morning the bill was about US$500. Just for comparison, I spent 4 hours in an ER in Denver a couple years back. Thought I was having heart problems, turned out to be a bad case of anxiety. A few docs spoke to me for a few minutes, a few nurses too. They poked a little, gave me some nitroglycerin, settled me down, let me rest a bit to get my heart rate down and sent me on my way. The bill was about $8000.

RE: Any problems crossing the Laredo border going south lately?

Thanks. But as we all know, the official rules don't always match up with what actually happens, and can vary from one crossing to another. A few months ago these same rules applied yet travelers crossing south didn't notice any change from what I was told. I'm wanting to find out if anyone has crossed here (Laredo or Columbia) lately and what the experience was.

Any problems crossing the Laredo border going south lately?

We're aiming to enter Mexico via the Laredo (or Columbia) crossing next week, bound for Sayulita. Since officially the regulations still say "essential travel only", just wondering if anyone has had any issues crossing any of the borders south of late? Also, we've never crossed at Laredo before (always used Nogales). Any tips on whether we should use Laredo or Columbia? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
