RE: Winegard dome and H24

You can still get all the channels that have been available via a dome for years. Nothing has changed. You still can't get HD and you can't get any of the HD only channels. There are many locals which are no longer available on 101 but nearly all the rest of the standard cable channels remain available.

RE: Safety question

I saw the after effects of someone who raised their RV on its jacks at the FMCA rally in Perry, GA. He then went under to work on something (can't remember} but was directly under the differential when the jacks failed. That was an end of life event.

RE: AT&T Mobley has Died. Need replacement Router

The Mobley is substantially better when moved to a router. Not only in performance but in usability being able to use most anywhere with a battery powered Mi-Fi and the additional devices that are allowed to connect.

RE: HOW did you choose your Class A ? ....

I drove a Prevost. End of search. It did take awhile to find one with the right floor plan and price but there was no going back.

RE: Aftermarket Nav

You only need cell service to get your trip started. If you are driving it is unlikely that you could drive much more than a few miles before the phone got a signal from somewhere. To make that your limiting factor means you haven't ever given this option a fair shake.

RE: Replacement Water Pump

Carry an exact replacement for the pump in your coach! If you don't like your current pump, replace that and carry an exact replacement. You use the example of being "out there" and this is not where you want to be figuring out if you have all the right fittings.

RE: Dish Upgrade

The MP1 is not SD only with Dish Network. The Pathway X2 is MUCH larger than the MP1 but that's also one of the reasons it's such a good choice. If you plan to hook up 2 receivers, one will be fully functional and the 2nd will be a slave being able to only watch channels that are coming from the same satellite the 1st receiver is using.

RE: Anyone interested in 83 Pace Arrow Tear down and Rebuild?

If only we can get through this saw horse saga, he might get back on topic.

RE: Idaho & Montana Trip

Without much effort you could travel through Idaho Falls and into West Yellowstone (or into the park if you like dry camping) and enjoy all of the amazing things Yellowstone has to offer. The only bad part is the timing as August is prime tourist season and all the buffalo and elk have retreated to higher ground. Still a great bucket list journey if you have not done so in the past.

RE: New shore service tripled energy bill

We have a pole barn that is far enough from our house that it has it's own electric service. And when you have more than one service on one property you have to pay at commercial rate on one of them. The higher rate charged for commercial service might cost more but would have nothing to do with the number of kWh's used which the OP says has dramatically increased.

RE: bunk beds

You likely now have space for a washer/dryer and plenty of closet space. If you are really handy it could also become a 1/2 bath. I suspect you are only limited by your imagination!

RE: Which old motorhome to buy

If you have the budget and don't need a slide-out, there are some excellent late 90's Prevost available. It will be worth a whole lot more when you sell it down the road. You simply cannot own a better coach. I just sold my '88 and upgraded to a '98. Will keep this one until I can't RV any longer.

RE: Windshield sunscreen

Mangeshade is NOT the only option. Some of it depends upon how large your windshield is and whether you are comfortable on a ladder each time you want to install or remove the shades. We have standard black mesh shades (same as Magneshade) but with mechanical fasteners instead of magnets. They are substantially cheaper but work exactly as well. For my coach I just step up on the front bumper to attach the top of the shade and do the rest from the ground. I think I paid less than $300 for a custom fit set and they have worked very well for us for over 20 years.

RE: Are Butyl Tapes Equal?

^^^^^Correct^^^^^. If you want something to go under the feet of something being mounted you would not use Eternabond. Use the tape and then cover the screw with Dicor so you can get all around the foot, tape and screw. If you want to seal edges of things (vents, drip edges, etc.), Eternabond is a great application.

RE: Switch to Direct TV

I'm not trying to see which is better. We have Dish now but for us Cleveland sports fans Dish no longer carries Baseball or Basketball. My Tailgater is not working correctly so I'm going to replace it and was thinking of changing to Direct. Was wondering what their camping setup was like. Thanks for any info. You cannot receive ANY HD programming from DirecTV with ANY kind of dome. DirecTV and an open face antenna (tripod or roof mounted Winegard Trav'ler) is required for HD.

RE: Navigation options

I still believe the most important part of any trip is planning before you leave! The GPS is a great reminder of upcoming turns, what lane to be in and the last turns to the final destination, but I already know what route I plan to take just in case the GPS decides I should take the route through downtown Toledo instead of the Interstate around the town (true story!). The live traffic data alone is worth having the system running. Someone posted earlier asking how much data was used. It is an extremely small amount. I measured it once a while back and I think a 250 mile trip used about 250 MB.

RE: Navigation options

The post above is wrong. You don't need cellular for the entire trip. If you know you are headed to a no cell zone you can download the map before you leave. Otherwise, Google Maps and WAZE will keep the route ahead downloaded to your phone and you will have no idea when you run in or out of cell service. You don't need a stand alone GPS (especially a built-in which is a pain to keep up to date). Plug in your phone and you will have the most up-to-date information for routing plug minute by minute traffic updates and POI information the GPS units can't touch. Google and WAZE will even keep up with temp road closures due to construction which would take a year to get updated in a GPS system.
