RE: Mystery Damage to my truck. From the camper??

I had one 10 mile section of porpoising road which sucked to drive on. This is the only thing that I think could have caused the paint to rub off. I just cannot imagine the legs getting so close to the truck. My brothers driveway was at a sucky angle but only traveled over it up and down one time. Not much cross wind and solid with the semi trucks passing. The jack cannot rotate any closer in-word, even if it was lifted above the locking points. I'll make some blocks to put in the front of the bed. I don't do bodywork so fixing the paint will be a pain for me. Thank you every one for your help!

RE: Mystery Damage to my truck. From the camper??

For my camper set I made a 2x6 plank, who made front wall stop and than I screw small 4x4 block to the ends, to hold the camper from side movement. Tops of 4x4 have some taper for easy camper loading. I also experienced that fast guns tension is crucial. I had my camper on factory rubber mat, yet on the 1st trip the camper move 1 inch to the back. The rocking motion during driving combined with air drag made it. Than I put about 3/4" tension on spring-loaded fast guns and the problem did not come back. I have a mat under it. I like your 4x4 block idea. 3/4" on the fast guns??? Wholly Cow that seems like a lot of tension.

RE: Mystery Damage to my truck. From the camper??

Looks to me like the DRW brackets are installed wrong. They should be parallel to the TC sides, but appear to angled toward the cab. Btw, it’s normal for the TC to move side to side some. You just have minimal clearance. When I originally had these brackets one was angled in and the other was flipped and more inline with the camper side. I needed all the clearance I could get so I flipped the one. This made the jack straight out when unloading giving me the most clearance and angled towards the cab when folded in. I actually made the 3" extensions to give me more clearance. Maybe now I could try the brackets reversed. Maybe.

RE: Mystery Damage to my truck. From the camper??

Your trailer is rocking back and forth in the bed which is independent of the cab, or the cab is rocking back and forth. In either case, the body bushings are where it's likely rocking and it is moving enough to make contact. Could be cab is moving one way and camper the other on rough roads, over bumps, etc. Even with the Fast Guns attached? It happened on one side but not the other.

Mystery Damage to my truck. From the camper??

I originally thought this was from my camper. I have absolutely no clue. I made a video in hopes someone would know what caused this. https://youtu.be/djhJfPwoNlA MNBen

RE: Motorcycle on receiver rack.

Another option may be the article in this post. Go to the 3rd picture down. Link to Motorcycle rack for truck camper If you have help, you could push it up. If you are buy yourself, I think your experience can drive it up there standing along side of it. The second and third time will be better than the first. :)

RE: TCM (Truck Camper Magazine)

I had the same problem when some how I accidentally unsubscribed... this was some time ago. I spoke with Angela a few years ago about it and she indicated if I had an email from the website that I could use that as a portal of sorts to properly re-activate a subscribed status. I may not be wording properly the way I did it, but I know what you mean. If you have an old archive notification from TCM, dig it up and look to see if there are options. OK! I found the old emails and went into the "Unsubscribe" button to change my preferences in icontact . com. I was able to change it to "continue to receive emails from TCM". I am hoping this will do the trick. I should find out in a matter of days. Thanks! This worked almost instantaneously. I got the email moments after I updated my preferences in icontact.

TCM (Truck Camper Magazine)

Are you all getting updates from TCM? I used to subscribe 4 years ago when I had a TC but unsubscribed a while after I sold it. Now that I have a TC again I re-subscribed..... a couple of times...I just can not get on the mailing list for some reason. I checked my spam but nothing there. I send Gordon and Angela a separate email...still no luck. I'm just wonder if others have heard how to get back on the mailing list.

RE: Where are the camper salvage yards?

Have you tried to google "Minnesota RV salvage yards" / "parts" or the like? You will probably need to call the numbers that pop up - the old fashioned way. Yeah, absolutely nothing in MN. But the FL lead seems to have a lot of stuff. ETA: Compartment doors can be had new. I googled "RV compartment doors", and the first hit was to a company named recpro.com. There are more. I am hoping to recycle a used one. I imagine they are spendy but I could take a look. ETA2: Is the umbilical cord different for your model year or would a newer one fit? The current ones should be available from Lance, no? New ones can be had for about $100.

Where are the camper salvage yards?

I am in need of a compartment door. I contacted Lance but they are currently only servicing campers 2010 and newer. I am also in need of a ladder. Particularly the lower part of a foldable one. I contacted TopLine Mfg but they never got back to me. I also need the umbilical cord from a Lance. My searches sends my to limited ebay results :( MN Ben

RE: Question about a Ford F 350 Drw

You are probably aware of features that reduce the weight capacity F350. Features like 4 wheel drive, Crew or extended cab, and the diesel engine are the big three. I often wish I could get rid of my 4x4 and diesel, and 8' bed weight, but I love the options too much. :)

RE: Mounting Truck Camper on Top Of 5th Wheel Hitch Rails

I have the 5er rails in my F350. We transferred a Lance 1130 from Michigan to Minnesota on top of a frame of treated 2x4s flat and toenailed with screw. The camper ended up slipping back about 8" from the bumping down the freeway. The tiedowns were vertical so they did allow the camper to slide and the wood was slightly damp from a rain. I stopped a couple of times to readjust and retighten the tiedowns. I purchased a rubber livestock mat and will be using it next weekend but I also plan to remove the 5er rails and reinstall them when we use the 5er again. There is only 5 bolts for each rail so it wont be to bad for meI did not like the camper sliding. Do you mean the boards slipped on the metal truck bed? I can see that happening. Especially with the corrugated bed, less surface area. On mine with the mat, the boards don't slip with the camper on. Maybe try it with the mat before going to the trouble of removing the 5er rails. Re-installing the rails each time could be a hassle if they need to be aligned just right to get the hitch on, and there is wiggle room in the rail bolt holes. Yeah, the treated 2x4 boards slid on the metal bed. They stayed in place against the bottom of the camper. The boards were only fastened to each other in a picture frame design. I would rather have the camper as low as possible, but two ideas I like are the 5/4 decking (with maybe a rubber mat under or on top) or the high density styrofoam as I have 4 sheets laying around. Lots of ideas for the OP. What do you think vwsportbug?

RE: Lance Bumper clamp repair. Need picture.

Thank you for the additional pictures. The rivet imprint is actually some type bolt head. I was able to get a picture of mine and can see the old bolts and nuts. I will have to drill them out and get something solid back in there. Now only do they get abused loading and unloading. I hear them adjust and move while lowering the unit. This just transfers that stress to the fasteners that attach the upper part of the jack. https://i.imgur.com/dsJn4qDl.jpg width=640 MN Ben

RE: Lance Bumper clamp repair. Need picture.

Alright! Great! So it is a piece of iron that goes in there. I wonder how it is held in place on the inside? I guess I could look under my bumper to see if there were some broken welds. Currently there is the end of the eye bolt with a nut. Thanks you joerg68. MN Ben

Lance Bumper clamp repair. Need picture.

So we are on our 3rd Lance. This one is a 2004 1130. The back jacks seemed to have pulled from the bumper. It looks like there may be a eye bolt put in there repaired from a previous owner. I was hoping some of you may be able to take a picture of what it is supposed to look like from the factory. I want to repair it correctly. Currently the clamps are loose and the so is the bolt going through the bumper. I have attached a couple of pics of its current state. I cannot find proper pics on the web so I am hoping some of you will come through. Thanks for your help. MN Ben https://i.imgur.com/5QV1q78l.jpg width=640 https://i.imgur.com/NC6v3Awl.jpg width=640
