RE: "Boondockers Welcome"

My experience with BW has been very positive. Always terrific friendly hosts. Most are RVers themselves. We have stayed at farms, hobby farms, houses with room for our 42' 5th wheel. Many have electric from 110 to 50amp and water, and some even have sewer. Most allow multiple night stays from 2-5 nights. There is usually a $5-$10 charge for hookups.
We have stayed at a few Harvest Hosts, but you are limited to one night, without hookups.
HH purchased BW but they are operated as separate entities, although they combined the apps into one, showing BW with different icons.
At renewal we chose to only renew BW. It works better for our needs.
Even though all of our BW stays have been memorable, two stand out. We stayed at a hobby farm in northwest Wisconsin with all kinds of animals. One of his specialties was rescuing pot belly pigs. I guess after the cuteness wears off, people with pot belly pigs might become less interested.
In Pensacola, FL. we stayed an private residence with a large backyard with full hookups. They were Christmas light people. The kind that you'd drive to just for the show. We were there for the Blue Angels homecoming in early November 2021, and the homeowner was just starting to put up the lights for his 'show'. Choreographed music, Santas everywhere, roof lights, lawn lights, etc. It was fun to watch the process.
We have talked about taking a cross country trip just staying in BW sites for 2-5 nights at each stop. Mostly small town America with great people.
Not sure about any pressure to become a host. We have done wverything through the web site. No pressure at all.

RE: Tires---Ouch

I've had good luck with Costco. There is always a promotion of $100-$150 off for 4 tires, different brands each month. I just checked for my truck (2009 GMC 1 ton DRW). Michelin Defender - LT225/75R17. $846 total, after discounts, mounting, etc. Might be worth a membership ($60).

Btw, CTRL-ALT-/ brindgs up a new window with keyboard shortcuts. Very handy, especially if you're not using a mouse.

RE: New to Chromebook: very basic question

A google search using Chromebook without a password should give you some guidance.
Regarding windows and tabs; the top right of the browser window should have three verical dots. Clicking that will give you options of new tab, new window, etc.

We purchased a DeWalt 165 PSI pancake. Even this one takes a bit of time to get to 110.

RE: Am I over the Max 5fer length?

Full timing in a 42' Alpine. Zero issues, even in small campgrounds.
After reading thru the article you posted...
1st - is that really from 10 years ago?
2nd - it appears that most of the 40' restrictions are for trailers. Not sure how anybody would treat a 5th wheel, and can't imagine the authorities would care.

RE: Two months in Texas

We spent the month of Oct taking a look at RGV for the upcoming winter (Jan-Apr). Weather charts shows average Jan temp to be at least 10 degress warmer than Galveston. I'm amazed at the number of parks in RGV. You can barely drive 5 minutes without stumbling over one. Using Camppground Reviews and filtering only ratings above 7.0 we narrowed it down to a dozen or so. We settled on Canyon Lake and they were having a 4 for 3 sale (pay for 3, get 4 months). Brought the price down to 350ish.
On a side note, when we left RGV, we stopped at Magnolia Beach (slightly north of Corpus) for a few nights. Magnolia is rather famous for free beachfront camping. Camped a few feet from the water, it was special. Due to it being November, crowds were minimal. Also, no hookups, but for a couple of nights, it was terrific.

RE: Ever hear of this camping company? Harvest Host

This topic has come up many times in the last 6 months and is a true YMMV.
For us, we use both Harvest Hosts and Boondockers Welcome (now the same company, but keeping things separately). We've only full-timed since April, but have gotten our moneys worth. We normally use Boondockers for a one or two night stop while we're going from point A-B. We've had multiple stays with both, and every experience has been very positive. We prefer Boondockers because most places we have the option to stay multiple nights, and many have hookups. We just finished a six night stay in Centuria, WI at a 'hobby farm'. Super friendly folks, 50 amp power, and water. We visit an aunt in Luck, WI., just 10 minutes away. We're already planning another trip next spring.
We have a five night stay near Pensacola reserved with a Boondockers. Full hookups (dump on site but not at campsite). Most Boondockers Welcome sites that have hookups do ask for a donation, usually $5-$15/nite. More than worth it.

RE: simple laptop solution for RV travel

I love my Chromebook. It has 100g internal storage, although I normally use the cloud (Google drive). Boots up instantly, no bloatware, no viruses.
This might be a good excuse to join Costco for a year ($60, I think). They offer 90 day full returns on electronics, allows you to try for an extended time. They also double the mfg warranty.

RE: HarvestHost......anyone using it?

We use both Harvest Hosts and Boondockers Welcome (now the same company, but keeping things separately). We've only full-timed since April, but have gotten our moneys worth. Four stays with different Harvest Hosts, including breweries and a Lavender Farm.
I have been able to make a few same day stops, but since we're full timers, I have a pretty solid itinerary planned in advance.

Thanks to all the responses!Love this forum.
We leave in an hour or so, and after consideration of the suggestions, we chose #2. Takes us thru Kennewick for our 1st stop, then up thru Spokane on the way to Missoula. Staying there in a Harvest Host brewery.

Long Beach, WA to Spokane

Need some advice... There are three routes, and they're all within minutes for driving time, and close for distance. Driving tomorrow, leaving 9ish
1. 101 to 5, Olympia, Tacoma, 18 to 90
2. Back to Portland, 82, 182, 395, 90
3. 20 to Longview, 5, 12,90
1 ton DRW, towing 41' 5th wheel, 16k loaded
any opinions out there?

RE: Rv locks install

We installed ours a month ago. Probably because my coach is a 2021, it was a perfect fit. Might have taken 5 minutes.
I helped my son-in-law install his a few months ago in his 2011 trailer and it involved some cutting as you experienced.
We love the new lock, the remote fob is quite handy.

RE: boondockerswelcome

We are new fulltimers (3 months) and have already used BW 5 times. They have merged with Harvest Hosts but pledge to keep separate. Our experience has been nothing but positive. As is the norm in the RV community, the people (hosts) have been amazing. More than helpful, anxious to provide a positive experience. So far, we prefer BW to HH due to the availability of more than one night (sometimes up to 5). Also, more and more BW have some type of hookups. Some have 50amp, some even have sewer hookups.
We do our best to adhere to the '3' rule. No more than 300 miles, and/or done by 3pm. So, when traveling from Washington to Wisconsin at the end of August, we will take our time, staying in various BW for a night or two (or more) along the way.

RE: Cripple creek/Pikes Peak

I lived in Woodland Park for 30 years, and worked in Cripple Creek for most of the time. Just left in April for our full time adventure.
Couple thoughts:
If you're concerned about altitude (Cripple Creek is 9,500), consider Woodland Park (8,500) or Colorado Springs (6,000).
Royal Gorge in Canon City is spectacular. Lunch/Dinner train or just visit.
New Olympic museum in Colorado Springs is spectacular.
Air Force Academy is something to see.
Under the radar: Paint Mines (google it), about 30 min west of Colorado Springs.
Victor Gold Mining tour, right next to Cripple Creek.
Florissant Fossil beds.
Have fun. It's beautiful!

RE: Pros and Cons of Tankless water heaters in RV

as usual, for most any topic, YMMV
We are new full timers. 41' Alpine. Mostly hooked up in our first 3 months. We love our Suburban tankless. My experience with other Class A (three of them in the 2000s) was that having limited hot water via a tank was inconvenient. We are fortunate to have a large shower in our 3712KB, and tankless allows a nice long shower, followed by DW's long hot shower.
Again.... YMMV
