RE: Salt Lake to Elkhart, IA Travel Advice

I hope that you mean Indiana. Many rest areas and truck stops across Iowa. East of Joliet until Indiana, not as many. Joliet east to Indiana is a slow go during rush hour.

RE: Personal experience with having slides and no slides?

Love our 3 slides in our fifth. Yes, things happen. Most people have had a flat tire, but they don't stop camping. Enjoy your new room

RE: Awning springs have power - I learned the hard way

Been there, done that. Rolling in my manual awning. A strong wind came up. Ripped arm off the lower part of my 5th. Roller caught my shirt. It left road tracks up my chest.

RE: Norcold fridge not cooling

About a month ago we had the same problem. Repairman gave me 3 quick checks waiting for him. Unplug the thermistor and turn the refrigerator to 9. If it's not raining, put a small fan at lower vent outside of trailer. Refrigerator needs to be on electric. And last, use a hair dryer on the switch for the fans at the top vent. This will confirm that the fans will come on or not. Good luck

RE: Level on sloped campsites. How? Unique to 5er's

2 thoughts. If you see that you are going to be on a hill, drop your feet down first, then extend your legs. Probably gain an additional 10". Or, get a piece of 2 x 12 and cut to 8" length. Bolt 3 or 4 together to make a 10 1/2" block of wood. Put that on the ground first.

RE: Norcold frig?

It might be an easy fix. Is it on? Unplug the thermistor. That will call for max cold. If it gets cold, there is your problem.

RE: Why not forget holding tanks and just use portable tanks?

X 2 on the pop up thoughts. Then using a porta potty, you would only need to carry a small jug for sink to drain to.

RE: Is a travel trailer with a slide out a good idea for me?

I've had 2 trailers over the past 21 years with slides. I treat the seals regularly, extend and retract when level. No problem. By the way, northern Michigan is full. We're there all summer long.
