RE: Extended warranty

Even if you do blush at replacing a toilet seal, it will still be a lot cheaper and FASTER to just set the $7k aside and pay someone to do it.
Amen, brother! RV warranties are a Joke. I'm surprised the usual dealer shills havent chimed in on this thread to tell us how a warranty saved them from bankruptcy.

RE: Couple of Ramp Questions

Thanks guys! You have proven once again that when you dont know about a topic, you dont know what to even ask about. I hadnt considered spring assisted helpers or cleaning/dumping ramp dirt into the hauler. Both obvious issues in retrospect.
Also, it seems to me that a ramp rated to work with X pounds would serve just as well up to that weight as a patio. Maybe you have to make your own supports to hold it in the correct position but that isnt much effort. Or am i missing something...again.

Couple of Ramp Questions

Long time TT camper here, looking to buy my 1st TH (if they ever go back to making them- my local lots are Sparsely populated). I have a couple of questions about what to look for in a TH Ramp. Assume that we'll get one that functions as a patio, if that makes any difference.
1) Hinges: do they all work the same, are there different grades, materials to watch out for? obviously, weight rating matters as does keeping them oiled/greased, but is there any particular thing you need to watch out for re maintenance?
2) Insulation: how well does the ramp/door seal actually seal, and what to look for there. is the door insulating ability any better/worse than a trailer's wall insulation?
3) Construction material: are all ramps made of the same thing, just different thicknesses/strengths? i assume its the stronger/thicker/heavier ones that advertise usage as patios.
4) Security: how do these things typically lock into place? cheap trailer locks? padlocks? lock from inside?
TIA for any thoughts!

RE: RGV

Agree with ronfisherman. If you are even remotely interested in seeing a bird, the lower valley is for you.
World Birding Center in south Texas
I've never been to Boca Chica. but that is on my Absolutely To Do list.

RE: Installing a safe?

Scooby, my posts only pertain to the existence of a federal 'adding a compartment' law. I had nothing to say about seizing money.

RE: Installing a safe?

Folks, the fed law pertains to altering the vehicle to make a hidden compartment. Adding a firearm safe which is cable locked under your truck seat or putting your pistol into the glove box is not a violation + fulfills the locked up requirement (which usually reads 'inaccessible').
This was taught to me in a law enforcement training course years ago and again in the 2000's in a drug interdiction course. Personally, i agree that it is Stupid- you own the vehicle and in my America, you can alter it however you want to. But that isnt going to change the law's existence. And again, i dont recall how this applies to motorhomes. It doesnt apply to TTs, 5ers, or truck bed campers, just the vehicles that we think of as passenger vehicles.
(and like many laws on the books, i have never heard of a non-criminal ever being charged under this law)

RE: Installing a safe?

1 thing nobody has mentioned is legal problems a safe, or any other hidden compartment can cause. ALEC has managed to get laws past in some states that let state seize any vehicle that has had a compartment installed that could be used to conceal cash, guns, or drugs even if there is no evidence of of cash, guns, or drugs.
There is a Federal law on this as well. Not sure how it applies to motorhomes tho.

RE: Blocking "Restricted" Calls on Smartphone

If anyone knows ANYthing about ebay, its that it is impossible to talk to a human there if you have a problem. Or even to find an email address to contact anyone there. :R

Havent ever camped at Pickett, but i agree with coolmom42 on the Big South Fork as an alternative. Several CGs there and i have found the rangers to be exceptionally friendly.

RE: Blocking "Restricted" Calls on Smartphone

Got my iPhone set that only my contacts will ring the phone, others go straight to voicemail. Legitimate callers always leave a message. The rest, to heck with them.
Exactly. Now they need the same function for txt messages.
This is also what i do. Ringtone default is set to silent, my contacts have their own 20-30 seconds of unique music clip (eg, Judas Priest 'Breakin the Law' for my bud who is a bondsman). My voicemail was never activated- my friends know to text or await a return call/text.
And like wildtoad, i eagerly await the day i can do the default autodelete for texts.

...and I know she has gone to a good home.
I had that feeling when we sold out first TT. Funny how inanimate things can affect us.
Congrats on the smooth sale!

RE: When a sale is not a sale

I'll come on the other side of most of the opinions here.
First, it is a regular occurrence (especially in todays COVID world) for a car dealer to bring a vehicle to a prospective buyers house for them to inspect and test drive it.....
Wow. I've never heard of that. Color me surprised.

One of my fav things about getting a new trailer is tinkering with it to fit it to my wants/needs. I'm jealous. ;)

RE: Shower Door

Are you sure you want to replace the curtain with a door? The doors need constant cleaning and the seals replaced.
If your shower curtain is billowing toward the user get a better curtain. PM me for what we use that is solid on the bottom but clear toward the top for viewing.
We replaced our home curtains with doors. Loved them at first but after several years my wife hates them with a passion (it was her idea). Impossible to get the mold out of all the corners/crevices. We wish we had shower curtains so we could just toss them and replace.
But yeah, Home Depot/Lowes sells a good selection and should have what you want.

RE: YouTube MP4 how to play on TV ???

We've (so far) successfully avoided having a smart TV due to their ability to gather and sell our private data ( i know many folks dont care and i am not trying to raise the issue. to each his own). So our TVs wont take a hard drive direct. We use an old laptop to play all our videos, but i agree with valhalla360 that basic laptops are so cheap, that it would a good option. And it never hurts to have a backup laptop.

RE: TN in early June and early Sept

You will have a great time!
I grew up 15 miles from the Bristol Speedway. They do pretty well on traffic on race days, but there will be some impact on the interstate. Not huge, but a LOT of people like to attend that race. Pay attention to the race timing too- i assume Sept will be a night race.

RE: TN in early June and early Sept

I'm from there. June will be cooler(note i didnt say Cool), first of Sept will be Summer Hot. Up to you as to which you prefer. Prices wont change because of that timing fwiw.
You also wont have any problem from TN re virus travel. If there's a problem, it will be from NY officials. TN understands and values tourists. May i ask where in TN you are planning to visit?
