RE: Tow Dolly Woe

The whole "It's illegal" discussion is irrelevant here, because this is for a car dolly, not a commercial trailer, and not in BC. If the OP is dragged down a boat dock by his car, something is very very wrong. Used to get dragged down the ramp 3 or 4 times per day. But then again with a Yacht. Plus we always stopped when the boat hit the water. This was with a class 8 single axle semi also.

RE: Does the State of TN title truck campers?

What does "As long as we did not need a title" mean, though? Shouldn't the TN authorities be the one to tell you if you need a title? If it were up to me I would not "need" a tile on anything. Lots of $$$ saved. What does "As long as we did not need a title" mean, though? Thats easy to answer, If you have a loan, that company 99% of the time. Wants a Title, thus you have to go through the DMV. They will take your $$ for the Tag and Title. Plus all Taxes due at that time. But if you pay cash, have no loan on that camper. You can skip that part. Does that answer your question to that What Does?

RE: Does the State of TN title truck campers?

I was told, if I needed a Title. I had to pay Tn taxes and get a Tag. But if I did not need a Title. I did not need to do anything for a Truck camper. That was on our 2006 Okanagan. That we paid cash for back then. Bought in Denver Co, so nothing to do in Tn. Fast Forward to last week. We were going to look at a 2018 used truck camper. Asked the same Question, was told again. As long as we did not need a Title. We did not need to come in. That a Bill of sale and Cert of built was all that I would need. Even tough the truck camper had a Tx Title.

RE: A add-on for the almost blind old guy

It’s amazing the effort people will go to avoid learning how to look in their mirrors! You really don’t need all this junk. If you would just pull way out ahead of the camper, several truck-lengths, get square and back under it while sighting down the jack legs on both sides, making them both the same, you’d slide right under it square and straight every time with ease. Using a roller to force it into position when it isn’t is gonna be stressful to the jack mounts. I wouldn’t use this thing. Guy we used to camp with. Destroyed 2 sets of jacks doing the roller deal. As he would move the camper at times 3 or 4" sideways. I told him that after the first set. After he messed up the second set. I think he learned his lesson. Roller is a good ideal, if your right to start with. But if you use them to move the camper over. Something has to give. Weak point is jacking mounting points. Or the jack legs there self.

RE: Where do you put your levels?

Man this means I have to level again when we find a TC? Been spoiled by the auto level on the 5th wheel. unhook hit auto level and hook up the power and water. By then its level and its fishing time.

RE: Okanagan truck camper

Its been a few years. But if you will post pictures of the valves I think I might be able to walk you though those. You have valves on the hot water heater lines. Those allow you to bypass the water heater. Then some of the others allow you to pump antifreeze into the lines. I used compressed air to blow out the lines. Then pumped antifreeze into them also. Took care of any low spots that might hold liquids. We had a 811-SL from new in 06 to 2012.

RE: Cybertruck RV prototype pictures released

Come on guys, the cyber truck is not Ugly. Now it may well be Fugly as can be. But we know there will be people paying $25K above the asking price. To get that truck. But you know I remember the first day I got to see the new Dodge truck. With the Cummins, Man that truck to me was ugly as could be. But after being around them for a few months. It grew on me and liked the flip up grill with the hood.

RE: 5er accidents

Hard for these people today. They run out and buy a big RV. Never been in anything other then there normal car. But expect that truck and camper to be just like that car. Speeding everywhere, cutting off people. Plus just dumb as a box of rocks. When Common Sense should be applied. Had a half ton truck with 35ft 5th wheel. Pass me going down a 6% grade last week. Left lane running 65+ in a 45 MPH speed limit. 3 miles down the road, he was on the shoulder with brakes smoking. Kid may have been 20 years old. Big lift on the 4x4. Guess he found out, it will pull it. But the Woe part not so good.

RE: New truck and TC.

I never did bedliner on my F350. Even camper rub some paint on front wall at one time, I just got rattle can and touched it up. Factory bed mat is excelent. Had root canal done last week. Less than 1 hr in & out. The doctor work on me for about 1/2 hr and it was all painless Still remember over 4 hr on the chair for previous root canal, when dentist still had film x-rays. Our Dentists still use the film. Old man is about to retire. His son and his wife is taking over. There changing a lot of old stuff to new. So we may get the good stuff by the time I'm dead and gone. Last Root Canal for me was only 45 minutes. Had 2 in my life, and ever been much to them. But then again I have had 3 filling done without any shots or anything. So pain is not bad for me 99% of the time. Unless its at a dealers lot.

RE: New truck and TC.

I have 2019 cummins 3500 dually, factory air, and bigfoot 10.4. Im a fulltimer and somehow loaded up to almost 14k pounds. I dont notice the air, i notice the shocks seem very overwhelmed on bumpy dirt roads when crawling along at 5mph. Careful, factory air will only take so much weight before it spits out a warning message, and im not sure what the computer will do at that point. Thanks for the info. Truck was ordered yesterday Sept 13th. Sure glad that is over, would rather have a root canal then mess with truck dealer. Funny part the one I went with. Had only been though emails until the deal was final. Then talked on the phone. Now figure by spring time the truck should be here. No rush, as gives us more time to find the right camper. Plus if I'm in no rush the truck may get in a rush. Will be taking a trip to get the truck when its in. Also first time to buy a days ride from home. But local dealers all want full MSRP for even an ordered unit. I did go with the a factory 50 gallon fuel tank. Standard Cummins and Trans. Almost loaded Big Horn in White. I did not get the spray in bed liner. Last 3 trucks, waited until I was ready to sell. Then new Bed spray in bed liner. So far never an issue with just a bed mat.

RE: new topic

Seen the fix today, single wheel crew cab 3/4 ton Chevy. Big double slide camper. Pulling 2 boats behind it. This was East of Mussel Shoals AL. Going the other way. Was he legal with that set of long horns on the hood?

RE: Insurance!

I know most here will not remove there TC when camping. But we 95% of the time set the TC off the truck. As we used the truck to put the boat in. I had insurance on the TC for that reason. As I was told when it was off the truck. It was not covered? Also had 3 camp grounds years ago. I had to show proof of insurance to take it off the truck. Those camp grounds had issues with someone dropping a TC and never returning for it. One was still sitting on the back site. Caught fire inside and they just left without taking the camper. Being the TC had no tag and the Vin tag was ripped off. It was now the campgrounds issue. Sad that someone would do that.

RE: Pickup bed delete or cab chassis (C&C)?

I like the idea of stepping up to 4500 or 5500 CC but I'm getting a GM product (I have a rewards credit card) and their 4500 is just too big for my little driveway and being a daily driver. It's the size of the old Top Kicks or Kodiak. I guess they call that a medium duty. At this point I'm going either CC or a regular pickup bed dually. Not messing with the bed delete as it just takes away too many packages and options from my build. I went and talked to the fleet sales manager at the local Chevy dealership and he mentioned something about not being able to deliver it to me without some sort of upfitter bed as it would be considered an "incomplete vehicle". So, not sure how that would work as the 2 upfitters I'm looking at are both in Oregon (I'm in Colorado). If it still turns like the Kodiak. Your can turn around with one. Where the 3500's had to do a 4 point turn. I still have a 2005 Kodiak C5500 with 5.9 cummins and 6 speed Allison trans. But can't fit a truck camper on it. Top of the cab to bed is 56".

RE: New truck and TC.

Nice set of Fastguns you found. THose are the vintage style - the original design. I have them too. They are nicer than the new style. Thanks it was hard to pass up this deal. Plus now we have the fast guns. Have to buy a Truck camper to go with them:W. He had a newer set for the same $$. But they were the painted one Felt these were the best deal for the price.

RE: New truck and TC.

I just bought a new 21 Ram 3500 DRW 4x4 and am looking for a TC. I would love to find a Bigfoot 10.4 but nothing out there. I was back and forth on the HO and 4:10 also and ended up with a non HO with the 68RFE Tradesman with upgraded radio, manual 4x4 shift, 5th wheel prep and 50 gal fuel tank. For my planned use I think this is the perfect truck. I towed an 8k lb trailer to the Midwest and plenty of power and the 3:73 are great. 1750 rpm at 70 and 2000 at 80. 13 mpg if I stayed around 65 mph. Empty at the same speed I’m getting around 16-18mpg. I wound Not want the 4:10 in this truck and the 68 shifts a lot smoother than the Aisin. LOVE the 50 gal tank, almost 900 miles not towing. It does use more DEF than my 17. Towing 1600 miles and running empty for 2300 mi, I used about 8 gal. Compared to my 04 HO with 4:10, this new truck rides like a Cadillac and much more power and comfort. Sounds like your enjoying that truck. We may get ours ordered before the end of the month. Almost have it nailed down to what is a must have. Over what I would like to have. Climate control for sure, shes cold I'm hot. Then I cold and shes hot. So Dual Climate is a must. 50 gallon tank for sure cheaper then putting one in after buying. Will get the full console also. Along with 5th wheel prep. Then bed lights also for the price I can't add them. Standard Trans = way more miles on the trans. Where the Asian you change fluid every 30K. 3.73 also for me. Then ordering White and standard wheels. Like the polished wheels, but can buy pull offs and get what tires I want. Also Getting remote start for sure. Sad we get spoiled and have to have so much in a truck. Used to be get one with power windows and that's it. Also going with the Big Horn package. Keep trying to talk myself into the work truck. But I keep trucks around 10 years. So better add a few items I want. May not live to see a new truck again. If I could be that blessed. Man I give out, we went fishing for 2 hours this morning. Wife and I caught around 60 lbs of catfish in 2 hours.

RE: loosing old members

Found myself still reading this forum. Even after we sold our TC,and enjoyed it. But between health and life, found I came around less and less. Most times showing up read a dozen or so pages of threads.. Then find my self kicking my own tail. For selling our T/C. But back looking for a truck camper again. Now to only find a Host within 10 or 15 hours we can look at. As for posting pictures I use this to post them. http://photoposting.is-great.net/?i=1

RE: New Ram 5500 Build

Glad you found this truck. Sure tough finding a 4500 or 5500 these days. Dealer close to us, had a 4500. Guy paid $4500. over MSRP for that one.
