RE: Buying an RV in Oregon.

Well if,my head was not spinning before it is now. ??. I get some say buying in Canada maybe easiest option. But the prices in US are cheaper when you take exchange rate (approx 28%) into it. That’s the reason for my question. I don’t mind paying taxes but was hoping to avoid the additional exchange rate taxes by bring back to Vancouver first.I was hoping to buy in US take to Outdoor Resorts in Cathedral City. And eventually sell it years later in CA. So figured I would be able to title in CA. But may not be so as not a CA resident. Very confusing. I have read that I can get a “Use” title there and pay the appropriate taxes. Thanks again for all your response.

RE: Buying an RV in Oregon.

Thanks for all of the replies. Seems I have a bit of work to do. One thing, I am not trying to avoid any taxes just want to figure out what I can or cannot do legally and if it is worth the hassle. Seems like the taxes would be paid in California. Up here in BC the taxes are 12% new or used. Was not sure if you bought used in US if it was cheaper tax rate if / when registered in California.

Buying an RV in Oregon.

Hi All, we are Canadians looking to buy a used 5th wheel to take to Palm Springs once the borders are open again. What I would like to know is, if we buy one in Oregon and take it to California to leave year round do we pay sales taxes? Can I buy road insurance for the purpose of hauling it down to Palm Springs Even though I do not have an Oregon residence. What do I have to do? I understand I cannot register the rig in Oregon as not a resident. So would it be registered in California . Thanks for any feedback. Peter

RE: RBW Sideout arms crown gear stripping

Our 2009 Carriage 5er had a major failure with the door side slideout. The crown gear that intersects the rack on the motor end stripped. The gear was only 1/3 way engaged on the rack. Google search revealed an issue on (rv.net ) dating back to 2008 Old threads are. still out there. RBW is out of business, soldout to ALKO. who sold rbw supplies out to Coachworks. I found the gear there for $ 156! A lippert gear is $12 Heres the issue RBW gear alignment, By switching the motor driven sprocket bronze bushing to an inside, front from rear allowed me to rearrange spacers and bearings to fully engage the crown gear to the rack. This did not affect the motor to primary drive gear as they have overwidth gears ro align hears the new alingment front to rear, on theright side of your RV. wide 3/4"bearingwith 1/4" bushing to the front crown gear Crown gear larger shaft with pin will complete bearing with larger 1"bore that 3/4 steelbushing starts. next is the crown gear then bearing and spacers to fill up the space to the right so that Then you slide the shaftto your right enough to place the captive pin in the motor driven gear, then push the shaft back left to install the rack gear pin and cotter key. A critical step is to ensure alignment and fill spacing to the left (rear) so that the shaft cannot drift Hi SD read this post unfortunately it is too technical for me to understand having never worked on anything like that before. I take it you do not have any pics or drawings on the changes you made? thanks Pete

RE: Cameo slide out

Peter, you do not write if its a just stop and pause ( which indicates an electical issue ) or a mechanical issue Oir 09 Cameo started the pause issue on doorside slide which indicated motor overload. By extending it an inch then bringing it back in we could eventually close the slide. Eventually the rear gear in the zipper panel mentioned in previous post stripped. Age and increased friction was the cause as well as poor gear alignment. Look at these previous threads I made for a cure. Pm me for more rbw slideout gears ( orphan ) gears again rbw sideout crown gears stripping Max Hi SD As you are likely aware the slide out lifts up a bit before coming in.It feels like a power issue as it is hard to get going and does seem strong enough. it starts to move then it stops even with finger on button I can press button nothing happens, I wait about 5-10 seconds press the button againand it slowly moves again. Once it is in about 12 inches or so it comes in rest of the way ok. its almost as if I don't have enough power to get it up and moving.

RE: slide out issue on Cameo

The zipper open access panels will not give you enough room to service the system. ours were rusted solid. Honey, Its Stuck! Open it a lot, give yourself rooooom. I had to cut a much larger opening through the underbelly fabric, fold back the insulation do the gear replacement then reseal the underbelly fabric with 3 M super 77 spray contact cement and more fabric as a 'tape' Carriage slideout gears and jacks were made by RBW, sold to Dexter, then to Coachworks. New parts are exclusive to Coachworks and $$$. $$$ $ and then some. Salvage parts do not serve any better as the same issues are present. The motors and drives are for us are good, its the gearing and engagement that failed A wrench job , maybe a welding job to rebuild the sprocket, most importantly rearrange spacers and bushings to fully engage the sprocket on the rack gear. Thanks ??

RE: slide out issue on Cameo

I don't have a Cameo but I do have a 2008 Carriage product. The slide control motor is actuated by a slide control box which has connections for the switches and the motors. I also believe there is an adjustment (probably amperage) that tells the motor to stop when the slide is in. My box was hidden underneath the refrigerator. Could be there is extra friction on the slide and the box is telling it to shut down with an automatic reset. Could be a bad box. Trouble shoot by switching the leads on the motor then hit the "out" switch to see if it comes in. Don't know if the Cameo works the same but worth a try. Doubt that it is the motor. Same motor and gears for "in and out". Polarity of two leads is just switched. Soaking the access zipper with WD40 will help it move but you are still going to break off the pull tab at which time a small loop pick works well. Make sure you have a good battery connected in addition to powering your convertor. Thanks ??

RE: slide out issue on Cameo

Check the motor cogs, I think there is a share pin. I haven't had problems with mine... yet. ;) The thing is when I try to bring it it the power sounds weak but it does eventually come on all the way so don’t see it being shear pin. Just takes multiple stop and starts. Are you hooked to shore power doing this or off battery? Shore power, but I believe the slide outs should work on 12 volt.

RE: Cameo slide out

If you look underneath the RV on the side with the slide problem. You should see a zipper panel. If you unzip the panel, you will see the slide motor for that slide. But like everyone has said, check out the electrical part first. Cheers will do.

RE: Cameo slide out

It is easier for the slide to go out, than to bring it in. My thought, thing to check, is the circuit breaker, which often has auto reset. It would act like you mention, when under load. These breakers weaken over time, and yours may need to be replaced. It should be close to the battery, likely just inside the basement on the wall. Jerry Yes goes out with no issue,

Cameo slide out

Cameo slide out issue Hi All I have a 2008 Cameo F35Sb3 and today one of my slide-outs would not function properly when trying to bring it in. It would move 6 inches then stop I would wait 10 sec and it would again move about 6 inches, after about three moves like this it comes all way in. tried this several times and same results. BTW goes out with no issues. So here are a couple of questions: Is this a bad power connection or is the slide-out motor starting to go. Where would the motor be on a Cameo underneath it is all sealed down there so cannot see.? it is the doorside slide out Would you access it from underneath or inside under the dinning and seating area? thanks for any reponses. cheers Peter

RE: slide out issue on Cameo

Itinerant 1 thanks and you are likely spot on i did crawl underneath and somebody before me has been in there and as you say the zipper is gone and the have held it together with safety pins ?? . I just wish I new if it is motor or poor power causing issue. Other slides work no issues. I make have to do as you say and take motor out and have it tested. Thanks.

Cameo f35sb3 Tv antenna booster

Hi All newest problem, Cannot get any channels using the antenna. I have been on roof disconnected coax up there and did a connectivity test behind tv. All is good there but I do not seen to have a booster switch or else I can’t find it. Not sure if that is issue. Btw antenna is one of those circular multi directional so should not have to rotate antenna. Any suggestions Thanks again Peter

RE: 2008 Cameo F35SB3

Hi all thanks for the input, I found out there is a valve you pull up to drain It, but it was broken off. I bought a shut off valve cut the pipe and installed a new 90 and down pipe. Alls good now Thanks. Peter
