RE: RVs over 10 years old are valueless

Visit state parks, city parks, or federal campgrounds. Or as PartyOf Five stated talk to management at your campground about their policy. Maybe when they see your rig their will change their mind. Note: our rig is 17 years and I have never been denied entrance to a park.

RE: Winegard dome and H24

I am using an H24 receiver with an 18" Wingard round antenna and am still getting all of the channels I want to watch. SD is fine for us.

RE: Flying J frustrations - Alternatives?

If I'm just purchasing fuel, I refuse to go inside to pay. If I can't pay at the pump I'll go elsewhere. After all, it's not the 1970's anymore. Pay at the pump should be at every pump, regardless where, without exception. X2

RE: Question on 5th wheel brakes

I do not believe that drum brakes have much stopping action in reverse do to the design. And as mentioned, traveling a few feet wouldn't engage them much.Disc brakes could be stronger.

RE: Scary moment towing my 5er around Denver last week

It is a temporary license plate for a newly purchased vehicle to allow time for paperwork to reach the county motor vehicle office.

RE: Tires...I know, tired subject

Go with the Carlisle HD tire and update to an E rated if available. They are doing well for many of us. You don't need to go to 16" tires IMO. Ditto - that's what I did. Just talked to a sales guy at Discount Tire, and asked about "freshness" of the Carlisle HDs. He said that the =newest= tires they've seen lately are dated 2019 and =Discount= only has about 1200, total, in the U.S. Seems that Carlisle has discontinued the HD and is coming out with a new model...sometime. So, I my be buying Endurance, if I want to do some more camping this year. :-( I plan on contacting Carlisle and seeing what they say. I'll update if/when I hear back from them. Later: I just spoke with a =very= nice lady at Carlisle CS (>25 years working at Carlisle), and she informed me that the HD =is= still in production, but they are about 18,000 units behind in production of HD model tires, alone. So, I'll probably order some and hope I can get some fresh tires. Discount will let me refuse to take them if I feel they're too old. She also informed me that Carlisle =will= cover damages if one of their tires blows out, or tosses its tread, so long as a road hazard is not involved. I had not ever heard this. Lyle I bought my latest set in Feb. from Tire Buyer online and they were 6 months old. Cost was $447 for 4 tires. Took them to a local tire dealer for installation.

RE: Glenwood Canyon I-70 mudslides....!

Is 50 reopened? I understood it was closed from Gunnison west, except for an hour or so mid afternoon and another short time period in the evening. Check the CDOT site for accurate info. You may want to drop down to 550 across to Cortez. That's the way we took coming east from Bryce. Construction has been suspended on US50 until I70 reopens.

RE: Glenwood Canyon I-70 mudslides....!

Personally I prefer US50 to I70 when towing to Montrose every year. From Denver I70 west is 65 miles of pulling up to the tunnels and then 8 miles downhill to Silverthorne. Then a short fairly level stretch and then uphill to Vail Pass and a hard downhill to Vail. By Labor Day who knows what to expect in Glenwood Canyon. Hopefully it will remain open but with only 3 weeks to make repairs it could only be 1 lane in each direction minimally. US50 can be reached from Denver on US285. It is mostly 2 lane highway with some pulls out of Denver and then some short pulls 'till Kenosha Pass which I find easy as it is only about a 4 mile pull. Then it is a pretty easy run 'till Poncha Springs where you pick up US50. Then it is 2 lanes until the pull starts up Monarch but there are 2 lanes uphill for much of the pull and and it is only 4-5 miles to the summit I believe. Downhill isn't too hard if geared down. The only issue with US50 is if they begin the road construction again between Gunnison and Montrose after I70 reopens. If so then they close the road most of the time weekdays and weekends will have heavy traffic. Since Bryce is your destination I would consider Allworth's suggestion that you consider I80 thru Wyoming and drop into western Colorado to pick up I70 or go into Utah.

RE: LED Bulbs

We have owned our trailer for 15 years and the previous owner had replaced all the marker lights w/leds. We have not replaced any of them and travel 3-5000 miles every year. So there may be different quality levels in lights. These are Grote lights.

RE: Why do I keep blowing out tires on my truck?

Is there somewhere you go on a regular basis that could cause damage to that RR tire, a curb, rock, etc ?

RE: 2011 F250 Steering

The caster angle needs to be increased. If it is within spec, it is acceptable to be increased more for better centering without causing tire wear. This!

RE: cleaning the outside of the 5'er

Veebyes, Would you explain your reason for using Maguiars POLISH in the final step instead of their wax/protectant. Just curious as they recommend a polish ahead of a wax which seals the surface.

RE: Looking for Recommendations on Floor Jacks

I assume you mean for the 5er. I've had one flat in 18 years. Used a 12 ton bottle jack. ^ What I have + wooden blocks. Same here w/ 1 blowout in 40+ years of pulling trailers. Keep it simple. And I don't believe a 1 1/2 ton floor jack is enough for anything but a car.

RE: fuel additives

Did a quick google search and didnt see the quick answer i hoped for. The diesel pump doesnt list the cetane rating, correct? Would be nice to know if my local stations have different ratings. I don't remember seeing any cetane labels on any pump I have used, even at the big truck stops. I have also asked a few times what the rating is and get a blank look from the attendant. I believe that diesel engine manufacturers recommend a 45 rating for efficient running. But any info from fuel providers indicates a lower rating unless the fuel is "premium", whatever that means. I believe the US standard is 40 cetane but not sure.

RE: Tranny fluid change

I’ve got the Ford TorqShift with the external bypass filter in a housing and it’s quite frozen. Couldn’t crack it loose with a 1/2” rachet and didn’t want to break something. Thinking about trying to use a filter wrench on the filter housing along with the rachet on the end nut. Any tips? I haven't had that issue but I'd try using a 1/2" impact gun turned down a bit.

RE: I-25 in Colorado

Take Thom's advice and avoid I25. The section between Monument and Castle Rock is under construction and a mess due to many lane changes. There are accidents and traffic stops almost daily. I travel south regularly with an RV and avoid that route by using local roads. Longer but more relaxing.
