RE: Will it be difficult to find a reliable 5er on a 20K budget

Heck yeah, I think the $5 gas that is coming will change the market.
$5 a gallon diesel, actually $5.15 in New York back in 2008 didn’t slow us down and the roads were full of RV’s.

RE: Blue Ridge Parkway - Early April

Tunnel heights are measured at the fog line so one direction could be more or less clearance than the other.

RE: 60 gallon gas tank

Maybe I'm wring but I thought the feds do not allow in the bed gasoline tanks, diesel only. Gas is too flammable.
"Gravity flow gasoline transfer tanks are not allowed under DOT regulations. They have to have turnover valves and be a pump/transfer system. ... Yes, we manufacture our aluminum refueling tanks to meet and exceed the requirements for gasoline, kerosene, methanol, and diesel"
OP, says he has a diesel.

RE: Best Cell Phone App

While it sounds good to use your phone and an app to navigate but you will be happier with a Garmin for RVs. Garmin is the best of a so so bunch. Yes you will have an additional piece of hardware but money well spent.
My new Garmin Is junk and not any better than Waze.

Despite some of the RV specific nav apps, I still prefer WAZE. I like that fact that updates are real time from other users.

RE: New TV

Look for an optical output.
MANY newer TVs do not have a "optical" output, in fact many do not have ANY output what so ever, no physical jack, no wireless BT, not even a headphone jack.. In fact I have TWO 50" flat screen TVs that were given to me that fall into to no output group..
OP has never come back to the thread with a model number which would be far more helpful than a bunch of random guesses.
I suspect that is the reason they were gifts.

RE: Compring manufacturer quality

Thor now is the owner of Tiffin. I look for a solid fiberglass shower and surround with glass door, not a plastic 2 piece one. Look for appliances, furniture and TVs name brand, not LCI **** Furrion and Summit. Hydraulic slides and leveling jacks, not electric slides.

RE: Short Term Freezing Weather Tips?

If you will have full hookups or where you can discharge grey water, let the kitchen faucet run a small stream which will keep the water and drainline from freezing. We’ve done that many times down to 14 degrees. An electric heater will assist the furnace keeping the belly area warm or just put a 40 watt light in the belly. Should be fine down to high 20’s.

RE: Fuel mileage

We got around 12.8mpg long term with a 1992 7.3 diesel pulling a 9k 5er.
More recently with a 2008 V10 gas pulling an 11.5k 5er was getting 7-8mpg.
Oil changes are about the same frequency regardless of fuel type and yes diesel oil changes are substantially more. We typically pay under $30 for the V10. If you do a diesel, it's rare to get under $100. But really unless you are putting on 40-50,000 miles per year, it's not the oil changes that drive up the cost of a diesel truck.
Well only true for Ford diesels, they used high pressure engine oil to pop the injectors which is hard on the oil, and requires more frequent changes.
Cummins doesn't do that and even with our old 5.9, we easily went 10,000 miles on a change verified with lab testing, could have gone 12,500 miles, but 10,000 was about what we put on in a year.
I believe the 6.7 uses Bosch high pressure common rail, the HEUI went away with the 6.4.

RE: Oil in Propane

Will have to research a tank certification location and give a call. I'm gonna assume it might be cheaper to replace the tank but you never know.
If I get a few warm days I'll pull the new regulator out and see if it has any oil in it.
Greg
Better recheck that, only DOT cylinders such as 20-30-40-100 lb cylinders require recertification every 10 years. Your built in tank should have a ASME rating requiring no recertification as long as it appears in good shape.

RE: Ford Factory F-150 Brake Controller - any good?

The OEM Ford controller has 3 separate settings of force set in the dash settings then fine tuned with gain set at the controller. Beats the heck out of Prodigy or any other aftermarket controller.

Diesel pusher will require a tow vehicle too. I tow a 2018 Cardinal luxury at 18,000 lbs with a 2018 DRW F350 diesel, 4:30 rear and 9.5-10 mpg @65-67 mph. Mileage and RV don’t mix in this hobby.

RE: Prostate cancer

I went to my urologist back in 2019 with an enlarged prostrate was given flo max to help. Latter on Dr. wanted to do a biopsy since numbers had inched up. Biopsy said I had cancer. Since I was 70, he advised against surgery. Instead, I went through 48 days of radiation. Numbers now read .04. Good luck.
