RE: Replacement Fridge or New Cooling Unit

You know you can get a compressor based replacement unit now. If I have a problem on the Monday fridge I'll look into that. Do you have a website where I could check it out or is this the Amish Unit out of Indiana?

RE: Replacement Fridge or New Cooling Unit

Here's an update== Home Depot took it back and refunded my money. Still out the $822 for the work at the RV shop to remove the Dometic and install the Magic Chef. Found another fridge that would fit-Haier 9.8 cf. Wrote to the manufacturer asking if it would work in a MH and would it be covered under warranty. Got an answer back and they said yes to a MH and would be covered under warranty. Ordered one from Lowe's, they delivered to my home and the guys even fit it through my MH door. But couldn't put it in the cubby hole as the doors needed to be removed first. They left and I took the doors off and had neighbors help put it in place. WELL it seems that I just can't get rid of that @$%^%$ rain cloud. Had it plugged in for two days to the MH and three days to the house plug. Never cooled down. SO, on this Monday Lowe's is delivering a new one and taking the old one back. This time I will plug it in before I put it up in the cubby hole. And yes my plug in the MH puts out 120v.

RE: Looking for Fridge Suggestions

Went to Lowe's today and they are exchanging fridges next Monday. This time I will plug it in late Tuesday, giving it more then 24 hours in case it was tilted. Not going to install it in the cubby hole until I'm sure it's working.

Those Good Year tires caused a lot of problems/accidents back then.

Shore power, had it plugged into the same outlet the Dometic was which is good but to be on the safe side I plugged it into a house plug.

RE: Looking for Fridge Suggestions

Well I got the Haier 9.8 fridge from Lowes on Friday around noon. They actually put it in the MH, but couldn't get it in the area it needed to be with the doors on. I took the doors off and Sat Morning my neighbors came over and lifted it in place. I put the doors on and waited till about 4pm to plug it in before locking it in place. As of Sunday night it still hadn't cooled down. Why me all the time, guess I'll call Lowe's and ask them to come get it and return my money.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

On my evening walk last night I saw a tree with some leaves turning color, odd that it was the only tree doing this. I try to walk every evening and when I do I carry doggie treats (milk bones) for any and all dogs I see. Ofcourse I always ask the owners first. I have one dog (Struts) that watches out the front window for me, he can spot me a block away as I round the corner from the horses. About a half block away he will start with his barking and howling until I hold up a treat and talk to him. Once there he will sit and take his treat from my hand really easy. He is some kind of bird dog. I usually give him two, but if I miss a night then he has to have three. Kinda controlling. Other dogs in the neighborhood that have received treats will come running to me if they are out. Seeing the dogs, the horses, and sometimes deer and occasionally a road runner makes my walks really enjoyable. Still haven't spotted Wiley.

Hey Burch, did they find and fix the leak?

RE: Looking for Fridge Suggestions

After a lot of suggestions and me searching I found a fridge that will be installed (by ME). It is a Haier 9.8cf. I emailed the mfg and asked if it would work in a RV and would it be covered by the factory warranty. Loved the response--"it will work in a rv, house, garage and even a straw house" and the warranty will cover it". Gonna keep that response on file and also in a plastic bag in the freezer. Just found out that Haier owns GE, they even sent me info on two GE fridges that would fit except for the depth.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Burch, you may have located the problem. Look on each end of the awning and see if there is a lever that you could flip after you have it extended. Then you should be able to undo the levers that are bringing the awning out. You might even be able to undo the attachments while the awning and slide are in and then put the slide out. That way you wouldn't have to flip the lever. Good Luck.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Have you tried calking around the flat metal piece that holds the bar that pulls your canopy in and out? Make sure the screws holding it in place are tight. Also just inside on the outer top of the slide, is it calked really good from one end to the other? Check your slide seal (usually rubber and runs alongside the slide) to see if extends from the top to the bottom.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Hey Burch, if the leak only seems to occur when your slide is out do you have covers that come out with the slide? Is the leak on top or along one of the sides?

RE: Looking for Fridge Suggestions

Folks I have a Freedom 458 series combi inverter/charger, it is a 2000 watt, is this good for running the residential fridge down the road? Is this a sine?

RE: Looking for Fridge Suggestions

Matt, thanks for all the positive info, I sure can use that about now. Where I am at home in Saint George, Utah we are at around 100-103 degrees for now until winter sets in. I turned the Magic Chef back on today and set the freezer and fridge at the coldest setting, will check it out later tonight. The MH sits beside my house with 50amp hook up.

Looking for Fridge Suggestions

I just had my old Dometic NDR1292 removed and had a Magic Chef installed. I was really happy until I found the User's Manual and read "not designed to be installed in an rv or used with an inverter" Now if this wasn't enough it also stated "ambient Temperature below 50"F or above 85 F will hinder the performance of the appliance. Working with dealer for not telling me. So I'm looking for suggestions as to what residential fridge would work I need to be able to have a counter depth one where I can open the door to a max of 50 inches. Width 32 inches and height not to exceed 62 inches. For those of you who have residential fridges in your RV can you send me the make and model number. I might be able to work with the height. My MH is a 2001 National Tradewinds model 7390.

RE: Dometic Temp Controller

Doug, are you saying that the disconnect of the thermistor for all those days did not cause the leak?

RE: Replacement Fridge or New Cooling Unit

Went to the place I bought it from and had a discussion with the assistant Manager. Said she would call me on Monday to see what the manufacturer has to say to me. Said if I don't hear from them her and her manager will get them on the phone. Suggested to her they might want to post a note on the fridge on display that it is not suitable for RV's.

RE: Dometic Temp Controller

Interesting. I had a mobile RV guy come out and he disconnected it. My fridge and freezer were running cooler like they should, but the guy never came back or responded to my messages on the temps I sent him. Then a month and a half later my propane detector and carbondioxide detectors went off, when I opened the MH door the smell was horrible. Did the disconnect of the therm thing cause the ammonia to leak because it got too hot?
