RE: Question for TEXANS- Class A non CDL

Drove a F350 / 5th wheel combo that was well past the 26,000 mark for about 7 years based in Ewe-stun. Blissfully ignorant for the first 6 years, planning for coming back to AK in year 7, so never got the Class A Non-Commercial, but that was what was required. Never stopped nor ticketed nor in a wreck.
Not necessarily true in the US.

RE: Question for TEXANS- Class A non CDL

It a class B non CDL. It's a simple process and easy test so don't put it off. I'm not even sure it cost much, if anything. The problem is not getting stopped, it's what happens with your insurance coverage when you have an accident and you don't have the proper license.
Class B Non-Commercial Exempt is for motorohomes towing a tow'd less than 10,000 lbs. A truck/trailer combo over 26K requires a Class A.
OP - I have a Class A Non-Commercial Exempt but have never been stopped. There are examples of people involved in accidents being ticketed for driving without a license since they don't have the license required for the rig they're operating.

RE: Ft. Meade Vs. Ft. Belvoir Campground

I know this isn't what you asked, but we usually stay at JB Andrews and take the train into downtown from just outside the gate. No hassle or parking issues in town that way.

RE: 12 ft garage and 36' max length

The Momentum 315G has a garage that's 15-3 full-width and 19-4 minus the depth of the kithen counter. It's 36'5" long with a GVWR of 16,400. Of course, with this configuration, you're giving up 1/3 or more of the trailer to garage.

Thanks. Any thoughts on having the rzr in the living quarters? Any gas smells?

RE: Controller for Lithium Batteries

Victron makes solar charge controllers which have a good reputation - recommended by Battle Born for their batteries.

RE: where to find replacement trailer furniture?

If you don't mind spending the money, Lambright makes some of the best. We replaced our theater seats with a double reclining loveseat to match the Ekorness Stressless recliners we have where the sleeper sofa used to be. The loveseats are wall-hugging and fit perfectly with the Thomas Payne (think "Pain") theater seats were.

RE: Bicycles

We've carried our two bikes on an RV-rated bike rack mounted on the chassis-integrated hitch receiver on the back of our two fifth wheels the whole time we've been on the road. Zero issues and no sacrifice of interior configuration or living space. We keep them secured and a good cover on them at all times (except when riding, of course).

RE: using a cargo carriers on my travel trailer

If you search the forum you'll find dozens (if not hundreds) of posts on this topic. It's universally a terrible idea and a great way to leave your bumper and anything on the carrier skidding down the road with people behind you trying to avoid it. Have a hitch receiver welded or bolted to the frame.

RE: Heater Specs on 2019 Palomino Puma XLE Lite 27RBQC

Anything labeled "Lite" is going to be unsuitable for temperatures below freezing. Keeping the living space warm is not usually an issue if you're willing to burn the propane. Keeping your water utilities and anything under the floor from freezing will be a much bigger issue. Looking at the specs on the 2019 Palomino Puma XLE Lite 27RBQC, I would say it may or may not even be adequate for early spring or late fall.

RE: Colorado experts...help please

I have found The Mountain Directory to be indispensable when planning routes in the mountains. I have the combined East/West version on my laptop and have it open, along with Google Maps and RV Trip Wizard when planning all travel in mountains. It will give you all information on grades, elevations, restrictions (tunnels and bridges, too), runaway truck ramps - all you need to know.

RE: best route, West to East?

In Utah on I-80, you'll encounter Parley's Summit east of Salt Lake City. There are long (6 mile) stretches of 6% grades. Vail Pass on I-70 in Colorado is a bit more severe with stretches of 7 miles of 7% grades.

RE: 301 in Ga. and SC

US 301 is generally a good road in GA and SC. We prefer it (and other US highways) to 95 when we're not in a big hurry (which, as retirees, we rarely are). 95 is unpredictable and can be a nightmare. We don't mind seeing the countryside and smaller towns.

RE: Lithium battery box temps

I use YoLink temp sensors (and leak sensors) in a number of places around the RV. This setup may not be for everyone since it requires a YoLink smart hub and WiFi/internet connection, but we are full-time and have an unlimited hotspot on all the time. The YoLink equipment is very affordable but, if WiFi and internet are an issue, there are plenty of good alternatives for weather units with multiple sensors available on Amazon, or at your local home improvement store. The advantage to the YoLink stuff is that there is a phone app and the hub sends me alerts if there are leaks or if the temp drops below my set point near the water utilities in the basement.
I no longer have a temp monitor in the front compartment with the batteries since I have thermostatically-controlled heating pads on two of them and the two newer batteries are the internally heated ones (all Battle Born).
