There is already multible threads on this. The ban against small generators IS NOT going into effect until the technology makes zero emmission generators feasible. The law is about reducing "low hanging fruit" IC engine small equipment use such as personal use leaf blowers and lawn mowers, and encouraging new technology for the rest. No equipment will be banned until the feasibility and technology is sufficient for the usage. As a politician, I declare zero emission generators to be "feasible" and "sufficient" - and therefore ban conventional generators. There - Problem solved.

Currently, there is no viable non-IC generator technology, so unless that changes you will still be able to use your generators in California after 2024. Lawmakers will simply declare existing technology to have "caught up" - regardless of whether it actually has or not - and ban IC generators. After all, any IC generator can be replaced with batteries, if your wallet is deep enough. No, they won't. The text of the bill is specific in that the technology is "same to same". A battery bank is NOT equivalent to a generator. Feasibility and practibility is also part of the bill. At this time it is not feasible to replace a generator with a battery bank - the cost would be prohibitive, the weight and size of the battery bank prohibitive, and the practibility of using a battery bank without recharging capabilities does not exist currently. Right now, there is no viable replacement for a generator - whether for home emergency use or RV use. Here's the actual text of the bill. The only mention of "feasibility" or "practicality" in it is completely subjective: If some unelected bureaucrat deems the replacement for an IC engine to be "feasible" and "practical", then the IC engine is banned. Don't like it? Take them to court - They'll use taxpayer's money to defend themselves.

Propane generators will become popular. AFAIK, the bill makes no distinction between different small engine fuels. If they "pollute" at all, they're going under the axe. Link to actual bill here.

While your math is good your assumption is not You do not discharge MARINE/deep cycle to 80% discharge It's not an assumption. In the real world, it's done all the time. One of the more humorous aspects of new battery technology is the way it downgrades the capabilities of the technology it's meant to replace: - AGM batteries are introduced - and suddenly, you can't discharge conventional flooded-cell deep-cycle batteries beyond 80 percent. - LiFePO4 batteries are introduced - and suddenly, you can't discharge conventional flooded-cell deep-cycle batteries beyond 50 percent. At some point, some new battery technology will be introduced which will lead its proponents to conclude that conventional flooded-cell deep-cycle batteries can't be discharged at all! :B

400W of solar suggests 30A. Parallel 12V panels would require large wire to the controller Agreed - Attempting to run 12-16 volts at 30 amps for any significant distance is going to require thick, expensive wire. Connecting all 4 panels in series would give you 48-64 volts at only 6-8 amps - which could be done with much thinner, cheaper wire. Naturally, you'll end up spending some of that wire savings on a more expensive charge controller that can charge your 12 volt batteries from 48-64 volt power.

Is it that EC5 capacitor?? If so, if you can find the numbers on it, you can order one and replace it for almost nothing. The soldering iron was like $15, and the capacitors were like $2 I had a Samsung TV that I did that with, and it worked for another 5-6 years. Nothing really to lose trying it. ZR1 blew out.. Most likely shorted out in the process of blowing out which have a chain effect of burning up the circuit board foil pattern under it until the fuse blew out. ZR1 is a "MOV" which is for surge protection. Fair chance the unit took a voltage spike, MOV gave it's life but the process could have damaged other items while doing so. Another possible culprit for taking out ZR1 is a generator that has poor voltage regulation, or is producing power with voltage spikes in it.

where would I put the controller , close to the batteries or close to the panels. Close to the batteries usually works best, so that the controller is actually measuring the voltage at the batteries (instead of the voltage at some point along the wiring that may be different due to losses in the wiring itself.) Some controllers have a separate battery voltage "sense" connection that allows you to run a second wire to the batteries just to measure their voltage without the effects of losses in the main current-carrying wires - in which case you can mount the controller just about anywhere.

Put a few damp rid containers inside in different areas. Damp rid is your friend. Yep - They're available in 4-pound buckets, which will handle a pretty large area. Close up the RV, so that you're only dehumidifying the air inside it.

The MaxxAir fans are also worth considering - Very quiet on the 3 lowest speeds, and draw just a small fraction of an amp of battery current. Personally, I would not own an RV that wasn't equipped with at least one of either brand - They are SUPERB.

The name of the trailer is not really a good indicator of it's weight.. Neither is it's brochure 'dry weights'... Very true. RV Manufacturer: "Apparently, our customers perceive our product as being excessively heavy...so we're going to add 'Light' to its name... There are small travel trailers with relatively small tongue weights out there. Some examples: Casita Sprit 17' Standard Layout: 295 lbs. Scamp 16' Standard Layout: 230 lbs. Escape 17' Standard Layout: 345 lbs. Bigfoot 17.5' Standard Layout: 410 lbs.

RE: Converting Honda generator to propane

Quite a few dual-fuel Chinese replacement carburetors for Honda-style engines are showing up online nowadays - Example here. Considering that most of these carbs also come with the "zero pressure" secondary regulator (which typically retails for around $60 by itself), these are a very cheap way of doing a conversion. Since these come with a brand-new carburetor, you can keep the original as a spare.

I have seen generally good reviews on the Westinghouse, but poor reviews on the Cummins Part of that may be due to different expectations for each brand. Folks tend to buy the Cummins version with the expectation that they're getting a premium product for their money - and thus are disappointed with even small imperfections. Folks tend to buy the Westinghouse version with the expectation that they're getting a great value - and thus are willing to overlook minor flaws.

OK if that is the lightweight 2KW I'd advise against it.I bought one to use while our Honda 2.2 KW was in the shop (for months) and was quite displeased with it. I doubt that it really puts out 2K. 2KW is the starting surge power rating. The continuous running power rating is 1.7KW or 1.8 KW, depending on which Champion model it is.

The Cummins and Westinghouse generators are the same generator made in China. Only differences are color and decals. Since Cummins is still in business, warranty service is probably better. The Westinghouse brand name was bought by a Chinese corporation to sell various products. Just like the Bell and Howell name or the Kodak name. Yep. There's isn't a single part inside that "Cummins" generator that's actually made by Cummins. It is a typical Chinese generator, with a "Cummins" label slapped on the outside. If you're looking for a Chinese-made brand that has nearly universal good customer reviews, look at Champion Power Equipment. They are US-owned, and build their own designs in their own factory in China - Excellent customer service out of Santa Fe Springs, CA.

I am thinking of getting 2 Group 27 battery, instead of 1 group 31. Does that make sense? NO Two Group 27 is about 200 amp horus and perhaps 50 usable If you're only getting 50 AH out of a 200 AH battery bank, you're doing something seriously wrong. The life expectancy of a decent Group 27 deep-cycle battery doesn't really start falling off until you're regularly discharging it beyond 80 percent. This includes good-quality trolling motor batteries. For a 90 AH Group 27 battery, an 80 percent discharge would yield 72 AH - or 144 AH for a pair of them. Compare that to a single 115 AH Group 31 deep-cycle battery - which would supply 92 AH when discharged 80 percent. 144 AH is more than 92 AH.

Lithium batteries can accept fast charge. One of their advantages. Most AGM batteries can also accept a fast charge. Many thin, closely-spaced plates connected in parallel = low internal resistance = fast charge acceptance
