RE: 2023 F550 Order Options

No I will be keeping my Ram 5500. Too much invested in it. My only real complaint with it is it does not track as well as my F450. I will be taking it in for an alignment soon and that should help. I was just curious if Ford finally will have more features for F550's. Being a long time Ford guy switching to Ram has been a bit weird. Maybe in 5 years or so I might consider switching back. But more likely I will be used to the Ram and happy with it.

2023 F550 Order Options

Ford has still not updated the website for online configuration. I see some have been able to order. My question is will trim levels above mid Lariat be available now?

RE: 550 / 5500 insurance???

Interesting I started with USAA who covered my F450. They did the progressive quote but it was several hundred more than State Farm. It may vary from state to state.

RE: 550 / 5500 insurance???

I just went through that with my 2022 Ram 5500. My state registered it as a non commercial vehicle but USAA and State Farm would only cover it as a commercial truck since it had a flat bed. State farm was quite a bit cheaper but well over twice what I was paying for my F450. Hope this helps some. I went with a CM SK bed and have been eyeing Stable Campers boxes as well. So far I really like the added storage.

RE: Toads

Its rare for a salesman to actually know much about what they are selling at dealerships. See if you can find an owners manual online or when looking at the car, spend time looking in the actual one.

RE: Camping off the truck

Well I happen to have part of a sheet of 3/4" plywood. I can cut 8 12x12 pieces and use two under each foot. Thanks for all the help. Never having set it on anything but concrete and seeing all the rain they have been getting I just wanted to be sure it was not going to sink.

RE: Camping off the truck

Now I am thinking about using 1/4 x 12 x 12" steel plate. That should spread the load enough. My camper has a basement and we often have it sitting in our shop and use it. Pretty sure its not going to have issues with sagging floors.

Camping off the truck

I'll be having work done on my truck soon and plan to set the camper off in a campground and staying there for a week or two. My biggest concern is its gravel and there has been a lot of rain. I am looking for ideas on how to best keep any jacks from sinking in potential soft areas. I considered 2x12's but my luck is one would split and sink. I am a chronic overthinker. Any clever ideas?

RE: Broken Frame on a RAM 3500

I know my Arctic Fox 1140 center of gravity mark was just a couple of inches in front of my F450 axle. If that guy has put a 2x6 across the front for the bump stops to hit, it could possibly be real close. I bet all things being equal, he just lost the frame quality lottery.

RE: Can I charge the house battery with the engine alternator?

Look at Victron Energy Orion DC to DC chargers. Depending on how many amps your alternator puts out, they likely have one that will work.

RE: Low pressure at RV shower head. What is this?

I've had that conversation with everyone who camps with me. Its there so you don't drain your fresh water and fill your grey tank. Ours has a push button shut off on the head. In my previous RV I removed it and while it was nice to get more water in the stream, I had to empty the grey tank way more often. It also had a shut off. Not an issue at a RV park or home, but when boon docking it was a big detriment.

RE: 2023 Ford 40k towing, 500hp, 1200tq

Might be true but the F450 is only available with the Diesel, so if it is an error, they should change it soon! I went on Fords site and after verifying the F450 does raise the price by $12495 when checking HO started a chat with them. They should have the issue resolved soon.

RE: 2023 Ford 40k towing, 500hp, 1200tq

You know that extra power will cost you a ton. Saw a 12k price add on for picking the HO Diesel. That's over the standard diesel when I configured a F450. Hard to pick it just for bragging.

RE: Ordering a ‘23 Powerstroke

Interesting, I know a different animal but my 3500 RAM DRW steering is rock solid. Maybe look into Thuren alignment specs. I know they have it right for the 3500 at near zero toe. Thanks, I will see if I can find a reliable truck alignment place and have them set it that way. I sure hope it is better after that.

RE: Ordering a ‘23 Powerstroke

If I was offered $80k US for my ‘22 F350 Platinum I’m not sure what I’d do. The way it looks it might be getting close to 2024 before I see a ‘23 in my driveway. I think I’d have to pass on that offer. I sold my 2019 F450 for $82k at a ford dealer recently. I really wanted an F550 but with the trim options being limited to level 1 lariat, I deciced to grab a new Ram 5500 Laramie. My only regret is the steering is a lot looser than my rock solid F450. I think the adaptive steering had a lot to do with that. Other than requiring more steering input, its comfortable and powerful. I might take it in and have it aligned. I took it to two ram dealers and neither would put it on an alignment machine saying it was too big for their equipment. One is a fleet dealer. Don't be surprised if I swap it for a 2024 F550 if they start offering upper trims.

RE: Dumb question

I have 400 amps of 12 battery. At full charge I can run my AC and also have the microwave on for 5 min runs. We get about 2-3 hrs depending on the outside temp. I leave my AC on while driving. Anything short of 100+ temps, I can go all day with 200watts of solar and 30 amps from my truck.

RE: Interstate 59

It seems to vary from state to state. Some states seem to spend more on roads than others. Easy to tell especially on non interstate highways as you cross state line from a bumpy road to a nice well laid road in the next state.

RE: Electrical

If both sides of the 30 amp dual are linked (aka both must go on or off together) then its a 240v circuit. If the sides can be flipped independently then its a likely a space saving dual single pole breaker intended for 120v circuits.

RE: Electrical

I am no expert and never had a 50 amp RV, that being said, I can't imagine why it's not working. If you have an amp clamp or a friend with one, see how much current is being pulled through that 30 amp plug. It might be your pulling more than 30 amps, or the service is not up to spec.
