RE: Is changing to a quieter AC worth it?

I installed one of the Wacko products and it makes a big difference. Check out Wackoproducts.com. And, no, i don't work for them and would not benefit from a purchase. Tell me more!! How much does it quiet the unit. I looked and apparently its only for ducted units. :(

RE: Rampage Motorcycle lift

Check YouTube. Those have been around for a long time.

RE: Towing truck camper (expecting first experience today)

Its not uncommon for a battery to not work then work a tiny bit after setting overnight. Just get a new battery and install with cleaned terminals. Then you will be on the road. I am not sure how your truck and camper are tied, its usually only feeding power when the truck is on. I don't believe the power from the camper feeds the truck unless a special circuit has been installed.

RE: Towing truck camper (expecting first experience today)

Batteries do fail and also connections get corroded and drop connection. It may be a simple fix, so hope a hand helper shows up and finds the issue and can avoid towing. A volt meter is a handy thing to check the battery.

RE: How to remove omnidirectional antenna

I just took mine off. 4 screws, tape and stuff the wires back in the hole then cover with eternabond tape then dicore. I thought about putting a piece of metal over the hole but didn't bother. Once a panel is over it, eternabond is plenty IMO.

RE: How many of you own an EV?

I have owned an electric car for 3 years. Plug in at home and only rarely need to stop for a charge away from home. Zero issues. Then again, had zero issues with my F450 I just sold. Or the previous truck, or our 2012 Honda. I like the electric a lot. If they made a truck with a big enough battery, I would be interested. Just need the charge infrastructure to improve.

RE: Host Everest Deadbolt Issue

Its probably more common than you think. If it was me, I would have ground the plate the first time I had an issue. Probably add an extra 16th or 8th inch for good measure as long as it not wreaking the plate too much. Host takes pride in saying each coach is hand made. Some minor variation or settling is not surprising to me.

RE: Flatbed Camper

Its not heavy for a F550 or 5500. Even with a steel bed you probably have close to 9k of available payload. So figure the camper with full water and propane might weigh 7500 I see plenty of room for solar, batteries and a nice rock collection.

RE: New Superduty gas engine for 2023.

If it was a turbo 6.8 it might be of interest. Personally I would not go gas without some boost since I cross the mountains a lot and am spoiled by my turbo charged vehicles now and before.

RE: Furnace Creek - Boil water notice

You know in my previous truck I always ran with less than half a tank of water and only one propane bottle. Now that I have upgraded trucks, I will fill my tank to the top at the beginning of each trip. Thanks for the PSA.

Flatbed Camper

This may be old news but have you seen the Rugged Mountain Custom RV Denali https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsEi_npWrcw As a recent convert to a flatbed hauler, I see this or others as a future possibility Thoughts?

RE: Tie Down Angle Best Practice

Good idea. I’ll message them. I was told one pulling forward and one pulling rearward is preferred. First choice front pulling forward and rear pulling rearward. Thats how my frame mounted system on my F450 was. Seemed to keep it in place just fine.

RE: Tie Down Angle Best Practice

It does make sense to have opposing angles. \ / so that’s where I am leaning. Thanks for the replies.

Tie Down Angle Best Practice

With my new Ram 5500 and flatbed, I have pretty much infinite choice where to anchor the truck end of the Torklift Fastguns. Now for the theory question. Will they be better off pulling straight down, slight angle or more angle like this /. I see where straight down would likely put less strain on the camper where the loop is attached but I don't even play an engineer on tv. Anyone have thoughts?

RE: Arctic Fox 1150 onboard batteries

^^^^^^ Yes Victron make a nice DC/DC charger. I have a 30 amp one and it will keep my batteries topped off and refil if we use the AC or microwave during the day. We have a 12v fridge and it easily keeps the batteries topped off with that. I then disconnected the 12v line in the 7 pin connector.

RE: DC to DC charger

I have been using a 30 amp Victron also. Works well. If your vehicle has the charging capacity, you could run more than one 30 amp unit.

RE: Might sell the F450 and go F550 with liquid springs

Biggest downside is the requirement to plate it as commercial here in OK. Now will that mean I need to pull into weigh stations with my truck camper on the back?

RE: Might sell the F450 and go F550 with liquid springs

I am the OP. I just sold my F450 for the same money my new 5500 Ram Laramie will cost and more than the original sticker price. Next up is arranging for Liquid Spring install. My goal was only to improve the ride quality. I loved that truck but it just didn't have any room to swap the suspension without further lowering the available payload. That combined with the simple and super silly fact its worth more than I paid for it. So selling a 27000 mile F450 for a 15 mile 5500 Ram was a wash. We also gain a lot of storage. Not a payload issue. The F450 was the most stable platform I have ever had in an RV.

RE: California to Ban the Sale of New Gasoline Cars by 2035

I love how change brings out the emotions. Personally I say YAY. By the time we hit 2035 there will be a solid charging infrastructure, faster charging and hopefully a better battery technology. In the mean time, I am doing my part to belch out diesel fumes at 8 mpg.
