RE: Baseball strike zone...

I think his consistency as a strike thrower and reputation for doing so and being one of the best pitchers in the league got him some extra strike zone love too. A good catcher can definitely steal some strikes, but I think a lot of his wider zone was based on pedigree and reputation. I'd wager that Tom Glavine got just as much if not more preferential treatment this way. He would calls that were 4-6 inches off the plate.

RE: Obesity in America

Those percentages seem insane. Maybe the barometer for obesity is off or something but I don't see 60 to 70 percent of people being obese. It's definitely an issue (and I think more of one in the midwest where the winter can work against getting outdoors and being active) but I have serious doubts of it being that bad.

RE: Great Movie

Just curious, why wouldn't you pay for a movie? I understand that there's plenty of free movies out there, but sometimes there's one you just really want to watch. I don't mind forking over a buck or two for a 90 min. to 2 hour experience I enjoy. It's even cheaper with all the streaming services available now.

RE: Baseball strike zone...

The strike zone in the rule book and the strike zone as called in a major league game are quite different. It should technically go from the knees to half way between the belt and armpit, but it stops around the belt for most MLB umpires. That box you see on broadcasts pretty much reflects it as called, but every umpire is a little different, especially with the width of the zone, so it's not perfect.
