RE: Grey tank ABS pipe leak

I would try your suggestion for a Fernco coupling. They come in hundreds of sizes and styles. You might also look at how you can better support the pipe to reduce movement.

RE: Odd CG map

Looks like they are using the same map designer as Recreation.gov. And that is not a compliment!

RE: Trouble finding alcohol free RV antifreeze this season?

Well, I just went and checked the alcohol-containing RV anti-freeze I have, and nowhere does have a "Flammable" on the label, and it does contain a certain percentage of ethyl alcohol. However it does say in small letters near the ingredients that it is "Combustible", which I think is considerably different from "Flammable". The only difference between "Combustible" & "Flammable" is the flash point. I also checked a couple of MSDS sheets for the two types of RV antifreeze. Both with the same freeze point rating. Flash point for ethanol antifreeze - 110F. Flash point for Propylene Glycol antifreeze - 228F. FLAMMABLE VS. COMBUSTIBLE LIQUIDS NFPA splits flammable liquids into two types: flammable and combustible. Whereas OSHA only has one type: flammable liquids. Either way, these are liquids that can burn, or rather, the vapor they give off can burn.

RE: Trouble finding alcohol free RV antifreeze this season?

For all the comments about alcohol-based antifreezes not being flammable, please explain why every single one of them has a flammable warning on the label? I'm not the one that wrote the label's warnings, so don't flame me! (See what I did there!) I'm no expert, but I'm guessing the evaporated fumes are more flammable than the liquid.

RE: Trouble finding alcohol free RV antifreeze this season?

Thanks to KD4UPL. Yes, West Marine has it in stock. West Marine My local store has over 1000 gallons sitting on the shelf! They have 5 different blends, all but one are alcohol free.

RE: Trouble finding alcohol free RV antifreeze this season?

Ummm, why do you want it to be alcohol free? Not trying to start something, I really want to know the rationale. All you are trying to do is get the water out of the system. The pink stuff with alcohol will do that. Once the water is out, you can safely drain the pink stuff out too. It doesn't have to remain in the system. The water is gone. i thought the 'pink stuff' was vegetable based. ??? The RV antifreeze is either ethanol based or propylene glycol based. (Note that there is NO ethylene glycol in it. That is in car antifreeze and is deadly.) I am assuming that the OP is talking about avoiding the ethanol based stuff. However, technically, propylene glycol, also, is an alcohol. The alcohol-based stuff has two things I would like to avoid. First is it is flammable. Second is that alcohol is harder on rubber seals (like in the dump valves). And for others that have asked, I'm talking about winterizing the fresh water system. And thanks for the West Marine suggestion. I have a couple boat places I can try.

Trouble finding alcohol free RV antifreeze this season?

Is everybody having trouble finding alcohol free RV antifreeze this season? Walmart has always had it in past seasons. This year, three different brands, but all alcohol based. Checked on line, Home Depot had it at a store 15 miles away (plus at other stores even further). Drive all the way there, but they can't find it. Now when I check again on line, they have zeroed out all inventory within 100 miles of my zip code. Drive to the local hardware chain (since they don't do on line inventory) and they have several brands as well, but all alcohol based. Try Autozone, same thing. Two different brands, but all alcohol based. Is everybody having this problem?

RE: Toilet broke loose!

I had this exact problem. I used this flange ring: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Oatey-1-4-in-Stainless-Steel-Toilet-Flange-Replacement-Ring-427782/303864005 Note that it has curved edges, and is not flat. I kept the broken pieces, and kept them under the flange ring for more support. I also had to do some minor trimming on the bottom of the toilet since the flange ring takes up slightly more room under toilet.

RE: Does your slide interfere with any operation.....

My RV, no problems. But I know a coupe of people with issues. One, they cant open the fridge. The other, they can only get to one side of a double sink.

RE: Is GasBuddy any use at all now??

I use it any time I am planning a trip. I will say that it is much more simple to use on a computer, but I can still make it work on my android phone and tablet.

RE: Two part ??? - Has your camping reservation been cancelled?

Well, another campground is canceled. Now we are up to three cancelations on this trip. We were supposed to be on Big Sur starting today. At least I found someone else's cancelation in Santa Cruz. So we have a campsite, but we will be listening to the freeway all night. Highway 1 on Big Sur would be much more peaceful!

Two part ??? - Has your camping reservation been cancelled?

Two part Question - Has your camping reservation been cancelled? And part two - Will you choose to cancel your reservation even if the campground is open? Both questions are about the fires burning in many places right now. And all of the smoke that goes along with the fires. My answer: Two of the campgrounds on our upcoming three week trip have already been cancelled. Another one is currently closed, but is scheduled to reopen a couple of days before we get there. As of right now, we will go for it. Quote from news article in today's paper: More than 24,000 camping reservations out of 3.2 million so far this year have been canceled due to wildfires, according to data kept by Recreation.gov, which books campsites on most federal lands.

RE: CA National Forests closed for two weeks

I just received my email this morning from recreation.gov. To better provide public and firefighter safety due to the ongoing California wildfire crisis, USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region is announcing a temporary closure of all National Forests in California. This closure will be in effect from Aug. 31, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. through September 17, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. “We do not take this decision lightly but this is the best choice for public safety,” said Regional Forester Jennifer Eberlien. “It is especially hard with the approaching Labor Day weekend, when so many people enjoy our national forests.” Your campground reservation for the Klamath National Forest will be cancelled and a full refund issued.

RE: Mechanics backed up for weeks all over?

I just scheduled my Class C for an oil change today. Made an appointment for Thursday. Also just had my toad serviced last week. I think I made an appointment on Tuesday for the following Monday. But if you want a specialist, yes, you might have to wait.

RE: Just experienced our first Non-refundable campground

I'm guessing a lot of the people replying to the topic have not looked at a map. Lake Almanor is surrounded on three sides by active fire. At the fire is still very much burning towards that 4th side that has not burned yet. The O.P. did not name the campground, but it may not even be there in three weeks. Multiple highways in that area are closed. There is probably only one way in, and it may be closed as well. Currently the fire has consumed over 500,000 Acres. The entire area around Lake Almanor is under an evacuation order. https://www.fire.ca.gov/incidents/2021/7/14/dixie-fire/

RE: Mt Rainier and North Cascades

Only White River is first come, first served. You need reservations at Cougar Rock and Ohanapecosh (but there are a few sites that are FC/FS, and all of the good sites are reservation only). There are no hook ups at any campground in Rainier.
