RE: Cleaning the awning

Directly from Dometic A&E manual: Do not use strong chemicals or abrasives to clean the awning parts as their protective surfaces can be damaged. Do not use abrasive or corrosive cleaners, mildew removers, or hard bristle brushes on the awning fabric. • Remove any cleaning solution completely from the awning fabric. Bleach will degrade the awning fabric if not completely rinsed off 1. Mix a cleaning solution of 1/4 cup dish soap and 1/4 cup bleach with five gallons of fresh water. 2. Open the awning. 3. Apply the cleaning solution. 4. Close the awning for five minutes, then open the awning 5. Using clean water, completely remove the cleaning solution from the top and bottom of the awning fabric. Rinse thoroughly. 6. Repeat the process as necessary. 7. Verify that the awning fabric is dry before closing the awning.

RE: How to Find Parks?

Sorry to start this topic going again, but I just found out some new information. I have been a long-time user of Ultimate Campgrounds, and it has been mentioned several times in this thread. I just discovered that Ultimate Campgrounds has "closed". It is no longer available on the web, and the app for mobile devices is no longer being sold (but if you paid for it, it will still work. just no updates). I'm sad to see it go. Now I will need to find something else to find camping locations! If anyone has more suggestions that haven't already been mentioned, speak up!

RE: County Park Experiences

I was going to recommend Ultimate Campgrounds, but now when I try to open the link, it comes up with the message :you do not have access to this page! It listed lots of campgrounds, but I don't know what has happened to it. Or if it's just temporary and will be back soon. It used to be free on a computer, but I do know that it was a paid app on mobile devices. But when I search the app store on my phone, nothing comes up for it. EDIT: Here's the answer: Time marches on. We cannot always keep up, however, and sadly that applies to Ultimate Campgrounds. After 14 years we have come to the end of the road. However, we are pleased to announce that our carefully-cultivated database of over 46,500 locations is being taken over by the folks at Garmin®. For several years Ultimate Campgrounds has been featured in a number of their GPS systems and is now being added to the Garmin® Tread™ app. Although our apps have been discontinued in the app stores, folks that already have the app can continue to use it for as long as they like. Just be aware that over time the data will slowly become less up-to-date. Our FAQ page will remain active for any users that may have a question. Bill, Geoff and Ted all thank you for your continued support and contributions over the past 14 years and we hope we have helped you find some great places to pitch your tent or park your RV. The UC Facebook page will live on; Ted will continue to post items of interest that he comes across.

RE: Hot Water not working - 2022 Jayco SLX 95

Did you drain the water heater tank when you winterized? And did temperatures drop below freezing?

RE: RV steps don't retract when engine is started

Check to make sure the magnet that controls the door switch is still in place. If the magnet is missing, the system will think the door is still open. I believe he stated that the steps extended and retracted when the wall switch was on, which means the Magnet is working. IF they do NOT, then yes, his door magnet switch is the problem. Doug Good call Doug, I missed the part about the door working correctly with the door switch.

RE: %#$@^ critters!

Here are the recommendations from the CDC for cleaning up after rodents. CDC Cleaning up after rodents Great LOL. Now his mice will be running around the RV 6" apart wearing little surgical masks while facing the possibility of being locked down by Dr Mauci. Putting rodent bait out is easy. They come running. You know what else is easy to bait for? Science Deniers. All you have to do is utter three simple letter: CDC. They come running! Several people in this thread said the exact same thing as the CDC. Use bleach solution to sanitize.

RE: Battery operated fan quesiton ?

My solution is a portable fan with built in battery that is rechargeable from a USB plug. Charge it when there is engine power, or solar power. We also have a small fan that takes two D cells, and a larger fan that takes six D cells (and has a 110V adapter).

RE: Yellowstone second thoughts.

If you have reservations inside the park, you shouldn't need to worry about the people waiting at the entrances (once you are inside). You are not going to commute every day from outside the park. And you're an early riser, so you will be ahead of most people. Go for it!

RE: Bryce Canyon NP to the Northeast

It's an incredible drive. We did in in a 30 Class C with no problems. We went from Bryce to Capitol Reef. So can't comment on the part of Hwy 24 East of Capitol Reef. Yes, you need to keep an eye on the weather. We had snow at the highest point, saw lightning coming down towards Torrey, and hail when we got into Torrey. I tried to record some of the drive but ran out of memory in the dashcam. The views are that great. If you, or your passengers are squeamish about drop-offs or driving next to cliffs, you need to balance that with the incredible scenery. Driving the Hogback, the passengers will get to enjoy the scenery, but whoever is driving will be watching the road. But my answer is do it! It's worth every minute.

RE: Happy Campers no longer available in CA?

I'm no expert, but it must contain one (or more) of these chemicals: Chemicals that CA SB-317 bill bans: Formaldehyde Bronopol Dowicil Formalin Glutaraldehyde Paraformaldehyde Para-dichlorobenzene Benzene Toluene Xylene Ethylene glycol 1,1,1-trichloroethane Trichloroethylene Perchloroethylene” https://uniquecampingmarine.com/blogs/news/california-sb-317

RE: Stainless wheel liners.

My old ones were literally hub caps. Just pry up at the edges. My current ones are held on by the lug nuts. And there is a tool to pull off the center cap.

RE: Reserve California website question?

The website did change to a new "improved" version. I remember last September that when you logged on, you could use the old version, or choose to use the new version.

RE: Needles to Quartzsite?

We did this route two years ago. We chose the Lake Havasu City route. Mainly to see London Bridge (not worth it). But we also chose that route because we thought it would be more scenic. Yes, there is some traffic through Lake Havasu City, and it gets a little slow and curvy around the south end of the lake and Parker Dam. But I still think it was a better choice for the scenery.

RE: Holding Tank Terminations

See the note from jpmyers above. The plumbing is installed incorrectly. It does not matter if cap is removed or not. If the gray valve is opened first with the black valve closed nothing will come out, and both tanks will be connected to each other. Levels will equalize, and nothing will come out of the dump hose. And accidents do happen. I don't assume life is perfect. I have seen the disaster where someone removes the cap when the valves were not closed, and the tanks were full.

RE: Holding Tank Terminations

There is nothing stopping someone from putting the plumbing together like this. But... If the black tank is full, and the gray tank is empty, and the gray tank valve is opened, it means that the black water would back flow into the gray tank until they are both at the same level. So, half of the black water would be in the gray tank. Doesn't sound like a good thing! Now before someone says you should never open valves in that order, never underestimate the possibility that it could happen.
StarkNaked 12/20/21 08:25pm Travel Trailers
RE: Holding Tank Terminations

Doesn't sound correct to me. There should be two valves. And as already mentioned, it would mean that both tanks would be connected at some point, either during dumping, or all the time. I guess it could be possible but doesn't sound good.
