RE: Changing oil.

Considering purchasing a Class A. Where do you get oil changes and other services when traveling? Especially if there is no RV dealers near by. we don't. I trust nobody but our service shop to do any PM on our coach. Even if your on the road for months?

Cleveland to Upper Peninsula of Michigan

Looking for the best routes from Cleveland Ohio to Munising, Michigan. I know straight shot is I-75. Looking for alternatives but do not want to go through Chicago. Willing to go around chicago. How rough is it crossing Mackinaw Bridge with Fifth wheel. Do not like heights. I can do it but anxiety builds up. Dan

Planning a trip to Alaska sometime 2023

I seen the post about Truck camper into Canada. It talks about vehicle insurance. My question is do you actually need a passport? Everything i have found so far indicates that the new drivers license is acceptable. Does any one know this for a fact. If you need 2 forms of identification and you don’t have a passport what else is acceptable? We will be towing our 5er. Have not set a route as of yet. Thanks

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Today is Pickles birthday she is 11 years old today. The last couple of weeks she has been coughing more frequently. A few days ago she really had trouble catching her breath. That really scared us. She just finished another round of steroids. Besides the trechea issue she has a slightly enlarged heart. She is on blood pressure medicine as well as an anti inflammatory. She is doing a little better trying to keep her as calm as we can.

I still check in once in awhile on here to see what all the FOOFs are doing. Pickles has issues with her glands as well. About every 2 to 3 months she gets very stressed. She will not relax and stares off into space. We have tried all kinds of things. I am giving her a gland X chew now. It appears to be helping. Just hope I am not speaking to soon. Going on 10 weeks now since she had it done. I have to give her a pill everyday for her trachea so I hide in the gland x chew. It has been working out well so far.

RE: DEF when towing

just picked up truck from Dealer. Could not find anything wrong with my DEF system. GM did issue an article revised February 3rd 2022 on Excessive Diesel Exhaust Fluid. The gauge is only a reference and may need several key cycles to show actual amount in tank. The rate of DEF will vary on Temperature, Altitude, speed and load. So the harder engine works the more DEF. They Also stated as the NOx reduction requirements increase the more the newer vehicles will use. I guess 2020 was a reduction requirement year. Article also states that if you receive message of XXX amount of miles that may not be accurate as well. It could decrease or increase depending on conditions and load of engine.

RE: DEF when towing

I am now on my third Duramax. My current one is a 2020. I do not use them for daily driving. They have all been 90%+ towing. I can say that this one uses a lot more DEF than the others. GM obviously expected that, as this one has a larger tank. It is what it is. Having fun costs money. How much fun do you want to have? That is what I am noticing but i will find out if i have an issue

RE: DEF when towing

I also carry jugs of DEF when towing so I have it. But when your gauge is showing almost a full tank and you get a warning low DEF something else is going on. Hardly use any DEF when not towing. Usually top it off at oil changes.

RE: DEF when towing

I have a 2020 it has a gauge and the fill port is in the fuel door next to diesel port. I had a 2015 before it it gave the 30%. The 2020 is better with the gauge and fill port. There was a recall on it shortly after they came out. Gauge was not working properly. As i stated before i Have an appointment Tuesday for the dealer to look at. I may have sludge from when it got cold and I received warning poor DEF. That was after dealer filled it up.

RE: DEF when towing

I think the general rule is about 1% and that is about what I get while towing. 100 gal of diesel = 1 gal of def. With what you are saying I was probably a little more the 1 gallon per 100 gallons

DEF when towing

What is your usage of DEF when towing. I have a 2020 GMC 3500 sierra 6.6 Duramax diesel. I have 17000 miles on it now. Most of the miles are regular driving hardly use any DEF. Had my truck serviced oil and filter change. Fuel filter changed as well as air filter changed. Dealer topped off with DEF. 3 days after service temperature got down around zero with a brisk wind. Received an message bad DEF 100 miles to slow down. Message disappeared on way to dealer when the truck warmed up. Dealer checked for codes and nothing. Next several weeks temperatures were in the teens. We left for Florida going through West Virginia and Virginia. Right before we got to Savannah received another message 1000 miles to reduced speed DEF. I had 2 1/2 gallons with me i filled it up. When we got to Florida I bought another 2 1/2 gallons and it took almost all of that. So I had just under 900 miles and that tank of DEF. On the way home I received the message again 998 miles i put 2 1/2 gallons in the gauge showed full. About 700 miles. Went another 375 miles and received message again 998 miles to slow down. Checked the gauge and still 3/4 full. I have an appointment for dealer to look at. Towing a 14,000 lb fifth wheel speeds of 60 to 70 MPH.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

We left Ohio last Saturday, delayed by 1 day due to the Storm. Made it to St. Augustine Monday and we will be here until March 12th. We were able to find spots a long Florida’s east coast through April 15th before we start heading home. It was pretty cold last Saturday traveling especially Saturday night we spent in Wythesville Virginia. It dropped to 17 degrees burrr!. Feels great to be out. This is only the second real trip we have taken since we met Richard in Sue at the Ark in June of 2018.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

We caught a break. Called St. Augustine and they had a cancellation for 5 weeks at Compass RV park. So we booked it. Scheduled to leave Friday February 4th. Hopefully nothing will happen from now until then. We are good until March 12th hopefully we can find something. Maybe some snowbirds will start heading north.
