RE: New to Outdoor Dutch Oven Cooking

Another point regarding number of coals .. The number they give you works great for the first load of coals ... After that, it's a bit hit or miss, since you have a combination of fresh coals and worn coals. Just get a feel of what the coverage looks like, then when replacing coals, match that coverage. After the first load of coals, the number doesn't make much sense.
Also, if possible, sweep off the ash between coal refreshes, since the ash acts like an insulator.

Although I’m not sure I would want to see “stuff” flowing down the gutter into the drain!
You're joking, right?

RE: Odd brake controller problem

Hooked up my truck to a friend's trailer, and the brakes are working just fine ... Dealer was blowing smoke when I called them yesterday, and they said the braking system on the trailer is just fine. When I go to pick it up, if it's still not working, I'll insist on hooking up to another trailer to show them that there's nothing wrong with my truck.

RE: Stink!

I had the opposite situation. My trailer smelled exactly like propane a couple weeks ago, but only when I flushed the toilet. First trip out and trailer was sitting for six months. Dumped and gave the tank a good rinse, and it was gone. Never had that smell from my black tank before.

RE: mattress pad recommendations

+1 You'll be happier in the long run. We got a Hybrid (6" of memory foam on top of 6" coil spring. Not much more money than a quality pad and very comfortable.
We did the same .. Got a memory foam topper for the thin mattress, and it was amazing.

RE: Do ice cubes in the black tank really work?

.and have the cap on the vent that I can remove to insert the tube and flush the gray tank.
If you're going that far, why not just dump ice cubes down the gray vent? :P

RE: Do ice cubes in the black tank really work?

Start using the geo Method, will take a few fills and dumps but walls and sensors get slippery and all stuff falls off.
I've been doing this for awhile now .. A couple of years ago, my trailer was sitting for three years with a 1/2 full tank. Took it to the dump, and was surprised that with only one re-fill and dump, the sensors were still clean.
Often after a drive, they will show 1/3, at least until the tank walls dry off, but I'm happy to always have the other two lights work.

Odd brake controller problem

I traded in my old TT and purchased a 2017 Jayco. On the way in, while towing my old TT, the trailer brakes worked just fine. On the way out, it didn't. Took it back to the dealer, and they plugged in a 7-way tester, and we couldn't get the electric brake pin to light up. The fuse is fine.
Later, at home, I connected a volt meter between ground and the electric brake pin on the 7-way on my truck, and it's showing a constant 12V. When I unplug my brake controller, the voltage goes away. The Google says that this means the brake controller is probably shorted.
1) What could cause this between me dropping off a trailer and picking up a new one? I would think that a short in the trailer brakes would cause the fuse to blow, unless that was what destroyed the brake controller. They *said* they tested the trailer brakes when they adjusted my hitch.
2) If the electric brake pin was 12V, wouldn't that lock up the brakes on the trailer? I know it was rolling nicely, because I was getting better gas mileage on the new trailer (1000 lb lighter)
3) Why would their 7-way tester not show a voltage when my multi meter did? I tested it with the turn signals, and it was fine.

RE: Do ice cubes in the black tank really work?

I think that my sensor must have been installed directly under the drop shoot. Just a flush of water makes it read 3/4 full. Being that the sensor has always been inaccurate, I just use the sniff test to empty my black tank.
Mine has been pretty accurate, but when I put 2 gallons of water in after dumping, it always shows 1/3.. I think they put the first sensor too low.

RE: Recommended Products For Restoring Fiberglass Shell

If you hate using gloves like I do, you'll find out how well this wax sticks to your fingernails and really shines them up! Hopefully I won't have to go out in public until it wears off.
Haha. Last time I ZEP'd my trailer, my daughter said my nails were pretty.

RE: Black Water Accident

I did something similar on my first RV trip .. Opened the lid and made a mess. Not on my face though .. Must have been debris stuck in the valve, and it never happened since .. To make this funnier, I thought it would be good time to have my son learn the ways of the black tank. He would never help me dump the tanks again.

RE: Storing with blank tanks 1/4 full???

Mine once sat for 3 years with a tank half full. Every once in awhile, I would check the water level to make sure it wasn't drying out.
When I had the trailer repaired and dumped the tanks, it dumped just fine. No smells.
What really surprised me was that the sensors were operating normally.
