RE: 2018 RAM 2500 with Adventurer 910DB

Well I am excited to report I pulled the trigger on a used 2013 Wolf Creek 850 N. Can't wait to try it out this spring at the lake. Also having a set of TorkLift frame mounts and Firestone 5000 lb air bags installed. I will report back with how it works out. http://www.wy4x4.com/img/wc850.jpg

^ Nice looking setup! Love the color of the truck. Thanks. Custom ordered it, "New holland blue". Then found a set of Laramie wheels and powder coated them. Then changed all the badges to the "blackout" edition truck.

I still don’t understand why you wouldn’t look at a Northstar TC. It’s better suited to your truck, because of the height, width and weigh of them. I am not against Northwood campers, I own a AF990. I have looked at the Laredo SC and 8.5 adventurer models. They are nice, but not quite what I am looking for. And the dry weight is more or less the same as the Wolf Creek's.

For some perspective, here is our 2018 with our Jayco in the background at Flaming Gorge in WY. http://www.wy4x4.com/img/gorge.JPG

RE: 2018 RAM 2500 with Adventurer 910DB

Thanks all for the info. I am between a rock and a hard place. I have a few options it seems, getting rid of the 18 2500 just aint one of them. I custom ordered it and it's the last of it's kind, I'll be buried with it. Anyways, as I see it.... 1 - I can gamble on maxing out my GVWR with a wolf creek camper 2 - get another truck as a dedicated camper rig and then be able to get the Adventurer as originally planned 3 - just keep on trucking with my 2014 Jayco 198RD bumper pull Weighing the pro-cons of each.

RE: 2018 RAM 2500 with Adventurer 910DB

ive got ride rite 5000 bags on my 2017 ram 2500 and my old northland is probably about same weight as that wolfcreek (which i like those campers) and it does fine with that weight and the bags. Check out the 840's to. I like that layout of the 840 versus the 850. What we really like on the 850 is that fold down bunk/storage shelf over the dinette.

Jim I am not discounting the experience I appreciate all the input. I got a good vibe from Doug, he helped me quite a bit. He designed the 850. I do not think he was trying to steer me.

RE: 2018 RAM 2500 with Adventurer 910DB

Thanks all for the replies. I have been in touch with Doug karr at northwood and he says the wolf creek 850 would not be a problem at all with a set of firestone 5000 pound air bags to help out. I am currently trying to find a long bed model wolf creek 850.

RE: 2018 RAM 2500 with Adventurer 910DB

I have a WC850 on my 2500 GMC, the fully loaded wet weight including all of our camping gear is 3,200lbs. Do you have air bags or any other upgrades to your truck?

RE: 2018 RAM 2500 with Adventurer 910DB

Would a Northwood Wolf Creek 850 work well? Dry weight is right at 2000 lbs. I think you need to add 800-1000 lbs to any advertised dry weight. I found one for sale relatively close. It has the Onan generator and a few other goodies. The salesman is going to get me a wet weight here shortly.

RE: 2018 RAM 2500 with Adventurer 910DB

So I guess what Fiat is telling everyone is that if you need a real truck but a Ford or a Chevy. :B Sorry. I just couldn't pass that one up. I am a master certified mechanic, and have many opinions on this as well....but let's stay on topic please, this is not a Ford/Chevy or Leafs/Coils debate. Anyone have opinions on the Wolf Creek 850 for a 18 RAM 2500.

RE: 2018 RAM 2500 with Adventurer 910DB

Never understood why Fiat-Chrysler went to coils on the medium duty trucks There is a massive market share of people who buy RAM's for the Cummins and want an improved ride. They drive them like cars, rarely if ever towing. That is why.

RE: 2018 RAM 2500 with Adventurer 910DB

What would everyone recommend for a camper that WOULD work well on my 18 2500? Obviously it won't have the amenities of the 910DB but we are wanting to look at options.

RE: 2018 RAM 2500 with Adventurer 910DB

Thanks everyone for the replies. A truck camper wasn't even something we thought about when we ordered our 2018 2500 Ram. We have a Jayco 198RD 20' bumper pull, but it limits us on where we can go. When we say we are going camping, there is no campground. I see people refer to it as "boondocking". I didn't know there was anything else. In Wyoming it's so wide open you just go wherever you want. I am thinking a 2000 era Ram 3500 dually would fit the bill nicely. 4685lb payload.

RE: 2018 RAM 2500 with Adventurer 910DB

First your diesel eats up a lot of payload. Can you explain this some more? Isn't that the point of buying the HD diesel trucks? I could never go back to gas, so much more power in the diesel.

RE: 2018 RAM 2500 with Adventurer 910DB

Thanks for the responses. This is very unfortunate as I custom ordered our truck from the factory, it is one of the last real trucks per-se (vinyl floor, manual trans, manual 4x4, etc). Could have easily got a 3500 at that time. It's hard to swallow that it pulls our heavy older 2002 3 horse gooseneck with 3 horses in it beautifully but can't handle a slide-in. But it's OK, I am a mechanic. Maybe the best thing to do is find an older 3500 dually, build it up as an overland style rig, and be able to leave the camper on it all the time. That way when we go into the backwoods I won't cry if the truck takes a scratch.

2018 RAM 2500 with Adventurer 910DB

Looking into the purchase of the 910DB from Adventurer. This model suits our needs down to a T, has all the features we are looking for. But will our truck handle it? We have a 2018 RAM 2500 crew cab long bed with the Cummins engine and 6 speed manual transmission. Never owned a slide in truck camper before, looking for advice. The dry weight as advertised on the website is 3373 LBS, and most websites list an estimated wet weight of 4400 LBS. Google says the 2018 RAM 2500 payload is 1,466 to 3,497 lbs. We like the 910DB for it's electric bunk option over the dinette, 4 season rating, king size bed, ample storage, and dry bath. I have not found any other truck campers with all those options and a single slide. Thanks!
