Oh dear.. So many with no sense of humour... But Cloud Dancer seemed to take it as it was intended...

I have my heart, arteries, lungs, kidneys and blood twice a year. What do you do with them for the rest of the year? ;-)

RE: Be careful out there. There are some bad people

You guys really watch too much TV. Tell that to the family of the couple that lived just a few miles from me a few years ago. He answered the door one evening to be attacked without warning. He was beaten down by the male assailant while the female attacked the wife. Once they were both subdued they were tied and tortured for an hour or two before both of them had a tube thrust down their throat and bleach poured down it. There really are very sick individuals out there and I only hope your "it'll never happen to me" attitude doesn't get you and your family killed.

RE: Be careful out there. There are some bad people

I'm atheist but I call for Jesus after the last two posts... Between the chap who wouldn't consider defending himself because "you shouldn't try this at home" which is, absolutely, the place you need to "try this" to the nicely religious person who, due to his beliefs, will allow all his family to be killed by an idiot because he fears that his ownership of a firearm will result in his death from said firearm I weep... Both of you are the people the nasty people love... they pray to their god that you will be out there and that they are guided to your house at 0300... Ready and waiting to be prey... Funny how pray and prey are such similar words isn't it? His weapon of choice was a 38 cylinder mounted to a 32 frame. No, the bullet would not fit thru the barrel. And there is the ultimate stupidity... I'd destroy that too but you need to understand that your father was an utter fool. He had a piece of metal that he could brandish if he felt threatened but that had no "teeth" whatsoever... If you make a threat you really need to be able to follow through on that threat.. When you tell someone you'll fire and he says "do it or you're dead" it's really important actually to be able to do it because what follows won't be pretty - and I hope they don't deal with your wife and children before they finish you off because your heart will be utterly ripped from you as you see what happens to them before your turn comes... Laugh if you like but there are lots of people out there that are that sadistic and cruel...

RE: Be careful out there. There are some bad people

... and here begins the bad advice from purported firearms experts counterpoised by the ridiculous scenarios put forth by those who are scared of their own shadows let alone a loud, scary firearm... Time to close a thread who's title is utterly redundant... Of course there are bad people out there... Did anyone need this level of enlightenment?

RE: Be careful out there. There are some bad people

When I first heard of this on the news I listen to, I made bets of how long it would it would take for someone to start posting about it on here, and then how many posts it would take before someone said something like "that's why I carry a gun" Won both bets. I'll bet that both the husband and the wife wished they had availed themselves of their Second Amendment rights when they realized what was happening... There, I just won both bets... ;-)

RE: More campers than parks

This year we have only been out in the 5th wheel 2-3 times because we can't find any places to go that haven't been sold out on the weekends. Northern CA State parks, especially on or near the coast seem to be booked solid, even this late in the year. Going east into the foothills or Sierras isn't much better. It's probably people all running away from the fires you have there... Just a thought...

RE: Trouble with California

Well at least Michigans forests aren't burning to the ground due to total mismanagement. I wonder how that's hurts California economy overall. I guess they can't protect everything. This is the most ignorant post I've seen so far on the internet. If that's the worst you've seen I'd stay off the internet altogether... There's some really weird stuff out there that would give you palpitations... ;-)

RE: Camping etiquette

Last weekend I was camping in a Michigan State Park which has fairly secluded sites, (Pontiac Lake State Park), and mine was one - I could only really see the two neighbors across the road so I was happy. There was a three pair group of nice folks in their late twenties across the road and we'd chatted and introduced dogs to each other. They were quiet and nice but on Monday morning at 0230 I'm woken by just loud enough drunken chit chat to wake me. That level of chit chat is impossible to get back to sleep to and about 45 minutes later they started imitating electric guitars... I opened the trailer door and in my best ex-military SNCO voice I simply yelled "Gentlemen, Quiet Please!" Silence came immediately and in the morning I quietly packed up and left before all but one girl who's dog needed a pee woke up... Not everyone who act senselessly are senseless - sometimes they are just unaware they are causing a problem. Had we both been there another day or more I'm sure we'd have shared a beverage or two and apologies from both sides would have been exchanged.

RE: Trouble with California

I find it interesting that, largely, those who are so enthralled by protecting their natural resources are also those that believe that globalization is the direction humanity should go. The more you open your locality up to global resources the more you risk your locality. Not a poke at California but fifty years ago if a farmer did things wrong and sent out Romaine Lettuce that was infected with a life threatening bacteria his customer base was maybe a few hundred people. Earlier this year there was a nationwide recall on Romaine Lettuce that was produced by a California based grower. Over 300 million people were potentially in danger. It's great for California that it is the food basket for the USA but it sucks if you are a victim of the failure of big business' policy of centralization. It's time to realize that centralization is dangerous and we need to step back a little and understand that if there's a single producer of anything there's a single point of failure.

RE: Campsite Sanitation - Beware

That's what a lot of folks don't understand. Our immune systems routinely deal with LOW levels of bacteria, the trouble begins when levels are so high they overwhelm the capabilities of even a healthy immune system. It makes sense to err on the side of caution. No, it doesn't make sense. If the immune system works against low levels but can be overwhelmed then any decrease in the effectiveness of the immune system increases the likelihood of the system itself becoming overwhelmed therefore there is a fine line between "erring on the side of caution" and disaffecting your immune system. No, I don't eat food soiled with dog poop nor do I live in a poophole but the level some people here go to to avoid contact with any and every form of bacteria - including destroying beneficial bacteria - is quite ridiculous.

RE: Another "Yuk" thread, or OMG, or what are they thinking?

Ever seen people use a cold grill as a make-shift table? Stupid is as stupid does... It can't be fixed so let it run it's course. I have zero sympathy...

RE: Another "Yuk" thread, or OMG, or what are they thinking?

Reminds me of a picture that was posted on another forum several years back from Fort Wilderness where someone had draped their sewer hose over the grill at a campsite, presumably to dry it or something. Imagine the next guy who slapped his burgers or dogs down on that grate, not knowing what had been laying there? You're joking, right??? How many times have you placed your raw meat on a cold grill? No-one, but no-one, does not heat the grill to temperature and scrub the crud from the last cook out off the grill by which time _anything_ that _might_ have been on the outside is burned away. I have a $100 that says that no-one got sick as a result of being the next person to use the grill... I'll go $1000 that no-one died...

RE: Boycott “No Campfires”

It is pretty apparent you are one of those people who feel that paying a site fee allows you to do whatever you want, damaging property included, and let the costs incurred be borne by the park owner and future guests. Absolutely not. I pick up the trash left by others and leave none of my own. My fires are well made and tended. When I leave a site I leave it better than I found it. Most campers do do such things. You, on the other hand, are clearly of the opinion that you need to dumb everything down for everyone. Possibly because it makes your life easier not to have to go and visit sites when people have left and see what they have done. If they have damaged stuff charge them for it. It's not rocket science but it does take some additional work...

Win10 with Firefox over Comcast Business Internet. One failure in that last 3 months is my best guess at the frequency of issues.

RE: Campsite Sanitation - Beware

When I was 14 or so doing dissections in Biology if the class was late in the morning my lunch would be in the cubby hole under the desk and I'd eat my sandwich while dissecting worms, locusts, frogs and rats. There are some extremely weak people nowadays...

RE: Boycott “No Campfires”

Westernrvparkowner: Pray tell the address of your park so I can avoid being hosted by such an aggressive, crass and, frankly, boring individual as yourself. You seem to be the kind of chap that has wonderful grassy sites in your park and then walks around yelling "Get off my lawn!!!!" The melted tables, burned trashcans etc. you mention are, undoubtedly, the facts of life in your business. A smart person factors in such damage to the price of their sites per night. That's a good business model. Your business model appears to be keep the price down sufficiently to attract punters in and then when they get there they find the camp is more of a concentration camp because you have a million silly little rules designed to save/make you money while sucking the very life out of them.

RE: Campsite Sanitation - Beware

I'm a firm believer in the 15 second rule for food on the floor. As long as the food is not covered in various debris it's fine. My daughter has several friends that sanitize everything inside and outside their homes - even while camping. Her friends miss so many activities they could enjoy through colds, sniffles and other miscellaneous maladies while my kid, while finding all kinds of things "disgusting", is rarely ever sick.

RE: Boycott “No Campfires”

I have always had a saying about RV parks, "Their campground their rules" "my money my choice". If I find a campground not to my liking I simply don't stay there. I do not try to change the campground to the way I want it. Hence California, Illinois, New York, Maryland and a few others don't see my money because of several ridiculous things they do.
